Character Bio:
Kela Nelois, neÁ© Mavinir, is a Betazoid Male born on Betazed. He was born to a common family of servants to the 10th House of Betazed and grew up with his parents and 2 sisters. Being servants in a noble house he was able to recieve a good education at a young age yet was mostly an outsider as he had the rare development of his empathetic abilities being developed since birth. While only developing to be just above average the fact it wasn't caught right away meant Kela's childhood was difficult as he found it hard to socialize and express his thoughts and emotions to other students. Despite this he was a good student and was never considered violent or a danger due to his early empathic development.

The Dominion War would start when Kela was only 11 and at such a young age the experience of the war is distant memories to him but the trauma remains. His father and older sister died during the latter parts of the occupation and the interruption of his education further hindered his emotional development and maturity. Causing him to become more quiet and reclusive and detached from both his emotions and others. Such a development would continue well after the war with his continued difficulty at socializing and his very introverted personality clashing with the typically more outgoing culture of Betazoids. Despite this Kela remained persistent and consistently scored high marks in his classes. Determined to the best he could for his family.

This determination would continue with Kela after his graduation and he chose to abandon his family occupation as aides and servants and applied to join Betazoid Intelligence. Despite his personality concerns his high marks and above average abilities allowed him to get in. Kela would enter the intelligence service with a perseverance and efficiency not before seen. Despite Betazed's official abandonment of their Matriarchy upon joining the Federation many of the traditions and beliefs still remain and Kela, as a man, while not discriminated by any means was typically overshadowed by his female superiors. Even so, he was determined to do the best he could and climb the ranks. His abilities proved useful in the Service. Whether for better or worse his lack of emotional and social development made even skilled Betazoids have difficulty reading and sensing his emotions while conversly his above average abilities made him useful in deeply sensing the emotions of others. His perfectionist, efficient personality tied with him naturally looking more towards logic made many give him the nickname " The Vulcan of Betazed" as the more extroverted and emotionally intuned Betazoids looked at him as more Vulcan then Betazoid

Despite these difficulties as time went on he continued to prove himself more and more and eventually, at the age of 29 after 8 years of service managed to secure and run his own department in the service. Such an achievement was a dream for Kela and with his new influence continued to diligently work. At 31 his skills and abilities were noticed by a small family in the 1st House, Nelois. They arranged a marriage between him and one of their daughters, Mara, and he officially became a member of the upper nobility upon their marriage. His family, as a reward for their many generations of service were given a small plot of land where they could live independently. Kela took the name of his wife and became Kela Nelois.

Kela's determination and perseverance had allowed him to go from a simple commoner to a member of the upper nobility and despite such a successful journey his life would still have some hardship for him. His first-born child with his wife was stillborn and his inability to cope from this even hurt his relationship with his wife and family. Turning more to his work and forgetting to take care of himself at times. 4 years he and his wife had their 2nd child, a daughter named Zexala. Zexala helped Kela regain his focus on his family and life and his trademark determination was rekindled as he continued his work in the Intelligence Service and rebuild his relationship with his family.

When Frontier Day happened Kela, not being a starfleet officer, was of course unaffected by the incident but the affects were still felt on Betazed and the shortage of capable officers and crewmen meant Starfleet began looking at other sources to try and quickly find qualified people to take commissions and help fill gaps. Only a couple months after the incident Starfleet asked the planet if they had individuals willing to sign up and help them rebuild. Kela gladly volunteered himself taking a commission in Starfleet he was quickly shipped away to help fill the depleted ranks. His assignment to the relatively quiet station of Outpost Solaere was a surprise but he didn't mind. The running of a starbase can be difficult so he was more then ready to help where he could. With his extensive experience in Intelligence and security he hopes working as an operations officer he can help keep the peace. But he is worried his difficulty socializing and understanding people will be a hinderance as he deals with a new environment and new people.
