[CSO's Office - Discovery]

Ruth's PADD pinged with a message and as she read it she mentally slapped herself on forehead.  "STUPID!" she said, momentarily forgetting that Safeta was there.  "Oh me... I missed something obvious!"

=/\=Commander Sigurdsdottir to Ensign Danjar-Adams I was about to say if the former CSO was as through as I am there will have been scans on warp trail all the time but seriously, I've worked with Lt. Cmdr T'Lara in a Science capacity before from I was first on a starship so I know she's more than thorough... check the logs.  If there was something else out there, it'll be recorded.  And Torra... thanks... for not overlooking the seemingly obvious!  Good work! =/\=

Torra hadn't considered that the scans would be running non-stop, normally that might seemed a rather large power drain to the Operations officer.  It was part of her job to ensure that everyone had equal share of the power resource.  But she supposed 95% of all other normal use of the power would be scaled back while they were docked so maybe it wasn't an issue.

The Grazerite put aside that for the moment and opened up the scanner database and sure enough the scanner had been working in the background this entire time.  Torra called up the earliest scans and filtered for warp signatures and sure enough there amid the fresh trails of the ships that had escorted the Discovery in, there was as also a decaying ion trail from the attack.  Noting the location of the trail and accounting for some drift... Torra opened the current running scan and filtered once more.  The ion trail was much fainter and if Torra hadn't already known it was there might have missed it.

Once more Torra compiled her findings and send them off to the Investigation's lead, Commander Sigurdsdottir.   With the data she put in a suggestion that a small away team take a shuttle and follow the trail to its' source - to obtain proof of its existance as something other than Discovery.

The current scan showed that the ship had left the system.  Torra would have preferred asking for the Discovery to track it down, but doubted the Romulans would allow them to take the ship away from the station... even if the Romulans did have the Captain as hostage.

Nira moved to check on the progress of the scan and was amazed to find it had been completed. It showed the readings and...

Nira looked hard at it. There are photonic signatures buried in the scan, true enough. But what was the unknown signature, she thought to herself...

The scan uncovered it. It was as she was expected. Disruptor residue. Indicative of antiprotons so heavily irradiated with ion radiation that they still persist. Just as Nira had suspected.

"I knew it," she said. Tapping her comm badge, she said, "Commander Sigurdsdottir, my analysis has been completed. It's sooner than expected, but can I meet with you and Commander T'Lara for the briefing?"

Turning back to Evandev, she said, "Is there anything further you wish to look at?"

[Holodeck 1]

Luby was taken aback for a moment but wasn't this secretly what she'd been hoping for since she met him... but thought it would never happen.  After all Normandy was far to suave, sophisticated and downright gorgeous to be interested in going out with her...

But he was kissing her, and after the initial shock she kissed him back then with a smile that reached her eyes she said "Three things.. ok Four. First, wow! Second, well this has been the most fun shift ever, Third.... well I guess that kinda seals this as 'a date'.." she chuckled.

"And finally... you cook?  Ooooh, and ok I lied but kinda part of four... so I get a 2nd date?!"

Reluctantly she took a step back and said "But you're right we're supposed to be on duty so..."

Keeping hold of his hand and leading towards the exit to the holodeck holding it behind her but not pulling, she said "I guess we'd best do some real work, or at least report back to Commander Sigurdsdottir about anything else we can find.  I guess me finding the info quickly gave us time to have some quiet time."

[Holodeck One]

Zed chuckled slight at the question 'so I get a second date?' "Of course you get a second date. If it's up to me we won't just stop at two." He replied as he began to follow the cadet. "I do cook. When I was younger my parents put me through the arts. I learned piano, violin, cello, sketching, and the culinary." Masters added warmly as he reflected on his childhood. "Computer, end program." He paused a moments as the simulation ended around them. The door hissed open and he stepped out, still holding the woman's hand.

"If we do report back to Commander Sigurdsdottir, perhaps we don't tell her about everything we took time to find huh? Though, I suspect she saw this coming. Where do you think we should head next? Back to my office, the medbay, or the bridge to report in? I'll follow your lead." Zed asked, his smile now was far more honest than it was when the two had met not that long ago. It was both brighter and more relaxed now than it had been up to that point.

[XO Office - USS Discovery]

T'Lara nodded, knowing what she must do. She could rely on her crew only so much before feelings got in the way of this 'big picture' her captain was talking about. She suspected that was part of the reason he seemed to have so much confidence in her, because her logic allowed her to see past her worry more quickly than others. She would see if her crew had gotten to uncovering the real truth through their investigations soon, but she expected that they at least knew by now that Nevir's arrest wasn't the main issue.

"Understood, Captain. Live long, and prosper," she finished with a final parting phrase as his face was replaced with a blank screen.

Turning the monitor off, the Vulcan woman listened to the next communication from the CSO. It seemed that her position would involve more talking with others than she was used to. Not a problem, but something she would get more comfortable with over time. She gave a moment of thought to Said's request. The next time she would see the General, since she hadn't been permitted to during her last communication with the station, would most likely be at the trial itself unless she received another transmission before then. Perhaps she could find out more from Said about this Karos character at the meeting.

=/\= T'Lara to Sigurdsdottir. A debriefing would be acceptable. As for the message for the General, I do not know when I will next be able to speak with him in a secure environment but I will make the inquiry if the opportunity is presented. If there is nothing else, I will see you in the conference room in three hours. T'Lara out.  =/\=

[CSO's Office][

=/\=Understood and three hours it is! Ensign Danjar-Adams has come up with something interesting but we'll find out in due course if anything comes of that bit of research... I'll put the word out for a meeting and debrief in 3 hours then.  Sigurdsdottir out. =/\=

"Looks like things are starting to come together, if we collate all the material and then T'Lara has it all there to present to the prosecution... " Ruth mused aloud.

Lek

[Transporter Room --> Main Engineering]

Lek waved to Gianetti as he entered his office and flopped down at his desk. He'd ignored the Romulans watching over everything and wanted nothing more than to phaser the lot of them into the next millennia, but he figured that probably wouldn't be well received, so he settled for a contemptuous sneer.

"What are you sneaky little Vulcan rejects up to? Going by the evidence, it is clear the arresting the captain was a shame, the question remains, what is the goal? Who benefits? What is really going on here?"

He grumbled to no one in particular. It just felt good to grumble at the moment as there was precious little else he could do.

Torra blinked in surprise as she was instructed to put together the away team to check out the warp signature trail.   It took the Grazerite a moment to remind herself that such was expected of commissioned officers, which she was now.  It was a very different level of responsibility that she still was not used to.

"Yes ma'am. I am uncertain if we can be back for that timeline but I have forwarded to you and Lieutenant Said my findings." she answered, before asking a question of her own. "Who among the Romulans should I contact to arrange for their escort?"

She didn't imagine that the Discovery crew would be permitted to go searching about Romulan territory without being watched.  It certainly wouldn't happen in Federation territory... and Romulans were much more paranoid of that sort of thing from what she'd been told.

While arrangements with the Romulans were being made, Torra contacted those suggested by Commander Sigurdsdottir.

[XO's Office - USS Discovery]

T'Lara nodded at the next communication. The back and forth had come to a logical end since a further acknowledgement would only be superfluous, so the first officer left her office and took her seat on the Bridge. She had effectively handed control of the task force to Ruth and she knew that, but with the crewmen reporting to her, T'Lara was feeling a little useless at the moment.

She continued to receive info from the task force and ship reports from all departments which kept her busy, but the simple tasks felt almost menial. At least they were taking her mind off the looming trial, or at least helping her from worrying about it. Not that she had reason to, but the fate of the ship was technically all up to her when it came down to it. An uneasy feeling would be warranted in this circumstance, but of course she would not allow it.

Hearing about the assigned away team, she raised an eyebrow since the briefing was to take place in only a few hours. But again, she recalled that she was not the leader of the group and also did not see any harm in it, so she awaited the arrangements with the Romulans to clear the excursion and perused the case info and her own ideas of who could be behind it.

Nira perked at the announcement. It was still going to be on for three hours. It meant there would still be things to do. And when Torra sent her own findings to Nira, she was astounded that she didn't think of warp signatures sooner. But then, she was an investigator, not an engineer.

"You know, there's still time," she said, nodding apologetically at Evandev's cold look. "Check out the torpedo. I'm going to see Ensign Addams about something she had just discovered, something we haven't considered until now: The warp signature of the attacking ship."

With that, Nira typed something in her console to Torra. She made sure that it would be covert, but needed to make sure Torra had to know it was her.

"Salaam, Danjar-Addams. I got your findings. Is there anything in particular in your findings you want me to look into? Would you need any help with tracking the signature to the source? My own scans have confirmed my theory. If we're both guessing right, the ship we're looking for is the result of revamping that 200 year old project from our old 'friend' of the old Star Empire."

He looked down at both of their hands for a brief second and then at the door that now stood in front of them. With a moment of hesitation, he finally let go and rang the chime to let Sigurdsdottir know they had arrived. "We should do this again sooner rather than later. How do you like your steak cooked?" He asked as he began to make plans for their next date in his head. "Of course, if you don't like steak I can always make something else. I just don't really know what foods you do and don't like and that's typically one of the easiest places to start. I suppose I really should have just asked beforehand huh?" These were not normally on a runabout but Gohun had a bad feeling about this mission. With that he went back to checking the ship and finished in about ten minutes. Torra, in true Grazerite fashion, took a long time pondering who else to take since she was waffling on either someone from Science who might be inventive if the the trail began to fade.. maybe Evandav? ... or someone from engineering who might know warp signatures really well?

She was still considering this when Lt Said arrived at her station to speak with her.

Torra blinked in confusion a moment.  The senior officer was offering help? "My apologies Lieutenant if it seems that I was soliciting for assistance.  I sent the data to both you and Commander Sigurdsdottir as the leads on the investigation, because I am doubtful that the trail can be tracked in the three hours... 2 hours 45 minutes before the briefing meeting.   I wanted to be sure that it was brought up."

She considered a moment making her decision, "Actually sir, there is something that you might be able to help me with.   I'm having difficulty selecting out a 4th member for my team... I'd like someone from science.  My first thought was for Evandav but I know he is working closely with you on your own investigation.   Can you recommend someone from the Science department?"

It was at this point in time that Gohun's call came in.

LOCATION SHUTTLE BAY DISCOVERY
With a flash Gohun went to the runabout Sally Ride and performed a pre maintenance check. He made sure that the medical tricorder was working and the engineering tricorder that is standard issue for the Runabout. Knowing that they may be going into dangerous areas Gohun received the permission from security to sign out four phase rifles. These were not normally on a runabout but Gohun had a bad feeling about this mission. With that he went back to checking the ship and finished in about ten minutes. With his tasks done Crewman Gohun taps his com bade.
"Gohun to Ensign Danjar-Torra  the Sally Ride is ready for departure."

Torra glance over to the chronometer on her console in dismay and slight concern.  Where had the time gone?  The Grazerite double-tapped her commbadge to send an acknowledging chime back to Gohun, but didn't interrupt her conversation with the Lieutenant.

"Oh dear.  My first time organizing an away mission and I'm the one that is the least prepared."  She sighed and shook her horned head, standing up and bowing slightly to the Security officer.  "Excuse me, ma'am... I need to prepare.  But if we run into trouble or lose the trail...  May I call on you for your experience?"

[USS Discovery - Deck 10 - Shuttlebay]
Five minutes later Torra was down in the shuttlebay.  With her was a Romulan guard - the unwanted fourth member of her team - preventing her from bringing along anyone from science.  The Romulan was thankfully not as tall as the one on the Bridge, but he seemed as equally dour.  The Grazerite tried her best on the walk down to engage him in conversation but it didn't go far.

Torra smiled at the Security crewman who had done most of the prep work.  "Thank you Crewman Gohun.  For all you hardwork."

With away team gathered, they could launch.

Using the same method as before Torra isolated the warp signature and soon the shuttle was headed out of the system.

[USS Discovery - Shuttle Bay - SALLY RIDE]

Don had entered as he saw Ensign Gohun at the Security station. "Thank you, Ensign," Don had said to the El-Aurian. The Lieutenant headed to the helm control to run the systems to see everything was ready. Engines were on line and ready. Weapons, Life Support, everything was set. He knew it would Even Gohun's prepare. The shuttles were always ready cause his team was on them daily.

What he can observe he was the highest officer. The mission was on his wife's hand. She had the team put together. He wished she try to be little faster on decision making. It was not easy because being a Grazerite.

"All right we about to launch," Don announced. He so wanted to say, boys, girls, and visitors please prepare for your departure. He would not dare cause he was high ranking officer. That made was a buffer. A head of department was another. Then four pointy eared guests was definitely place a hamper on things.

The clearance was cleared for take off. Don had gotten the Roundabout out to space with ease. Heading toward the designated area that Torra had given to him.

The crew on the Sally was under his wing for now. He could handle it. This should not be hard. Romulan space who are keeping eye on them. Unless they decide to blast them away. Don would do what he can keep them safe if he had too.
