Field patrol!!   I love getting out of the office and roving up and down the river looking for fisherfolk to interview (even if it is just by truck for now... come August I get to go out on the Jet boat a couple times).  Got 5 interviews this afternoon.  Enjoyed a sun shower...should have taken a pic of the dark rain clouds pouring over the mountains with bright blue sky on the other side of the valley.. it was gorgeous.

My highlight has to be seeing the Jewish Ghetto in Venice today.

There wasn't anything majorly impressive about it on its face. It's another neighborhood in lovely old Venice, on an island, surrounded by canal. Lovely, but not special.

What is special about it are the little things. A mezuzah here, a restaurant with a "kosher" sign there, some Hebrew lettering on some businesses, and other little signs that show how, despite how hard the Nazis and their collaborators tried to destroy Europe's Jews, they failed. We're still standing.
As a Jew, that touched me, and it made me very, very proud.
