Hi

The last episode of Picard included a very short trailer for Discovery Season 3.

Michael is shown planting a tattered federation flag on a barren looking planet.

There is no release date yet though.

Is anyone planning to watch it?

I'm curious to learn what befalls the future of the 32nd Century Federation, but afraid what it will be will ruin the optimistic message Star Trek used to convey.

My curiosity is peeked as well.  Till will tell, of course.
Even still, I look at Discovery as an alternate reality.
So it won't impact my view of Star Trek no matter how it turns out.

With DIS and the Reboot 'realities' I continue to yearn for a time when we can truly return to the reality we all enjoyed and inspired this very Fleet.

Kirok

At a minimum, it is entertaining in my mind.
Even if they do mess with the time line as we know it.
So I just think of it as an alternate reality ;-)

I am curious to see what they do with the season given that they are jumping into the future

One wonders if the 'event' mentioned in the trailer is somehow related to part of the last name of the primary protagonist.

The burn?  for Burnham?
From what I could gather from the panel discussion I would say no.
Remember the crew is being dropped into 3188 (900+ years from where they last were).
And their first season was 'classified.'
So it is unlikely that there is a connection
But I could be wrong

Perhaps I've watched too much Babylon 5.

So.... I did watch the first episode.  We get to know what the Burn is from the start.
About a hundred years prior, sometime in the 31st century, something happened that caused dilithium to suddenly ignite.  Dilithium still exists, so it wasn't everything, but it is now a very rare material that is traded for goods and services for use in ships.

So its not necessary that warp travel is gone, but the fuel that almost everyone used to go to warp had most of their stock just... explode.  Which might explain the fall of Federation... I have a gut-wrenching feeling that when the Burn happened, it ignited in the warp reactors of all the ships.
Well see what happens, as there is at least one Federation liaison officer (unofficial), and what looks like one Starfleet officer from the trailers.  Next episode is going to show the Discovery coming into the time period.
