"So long and thanks for all the fish."  Ardy turned behind her, the familiar line ringing back the memory of buttered popcorn and a dimly lit holodeck with a movie screen on the back wall, and all the old classics of the 20th century playing until the early hours. Those were one of the few times she could ever remember having her dad truly to herself. More often than not, she'd have fallen asleep by the time they were done, but life was good.
Shaking herself out of her nostalgia with Alex's nudge, Ardy nodded as Inzjana mentioned the movie in question. "I remember that movie too. It was weird, I'll tell you that. Think there might be some code inside the message?"

BRIDGE - SCIENCE STATION ONE

"It is quite possible Lieutenant," Inzjana piped in, not entirely sure Jaeger's question was actually aimed at her. "If I remember correctly, the movie's song 'So long and thanks for all the fish' is supposedly sung by the Dolphins before leaving the planet as it was about to be destroyed by a Vogon Constructor Fleet. Taking that to a logical conclusion, despite that completely illogical premise. It could be assumed that the sender is talking about leaving a certain location, before it is destroyed by an external force."

"Perhaps they were simply discussing their diet, Mr. Adams," T'Ra began to reply. Then she paused for a moment as the last part of what he had said really sinked in. "Mr. Adams," she continued cooly, her expression placid, "I understand that you may be a civilian and not subject to each and every Starfleet regulation, but you are permitted to be aboard this vessel per my approval, and while you are aboard my ship, you will act with a modicum of respect and refer to me as 'Captain'

He nodded his head as sucked his lips inside his mouth. He held his hands out. "My apologies I try my best, Captain," he replied.

He crossed his arms across his chest. "I am a fish out of water on this," he added. The weird thing that the two females know about it. That was odd.

He turned to look at the huge screen. He was searching the view screen hoping to see something. There was something to be seen, but he was not sure. After all he was a pilot. He was never into those old culture episodes or movies.

T'Ra nodded at her fellow Vulcan's conclusion. "That could be a logical assumption. Though if that is indeed the case, it makes me wonder why they do not outright say so and what might drive them to send this message in such a cryptic manner." She turned to the flight officer. "Miss Jaeger, increase speed if you can and bring us to yellow alert. Whatever caused them to send a distress call may still be in the area."

Humans... T'Ra mused pensively, wanting to shake her head. But the civilian's apt metaphor amused her, and she let it drop. "At ease, Mr. Adams," she said. "And," T'Ra added, "before you were stationed here, what did your job as a pilot entail?" She was curious as to how much he had traveled, what his dealings with other races might have been.

Inzjana raised her eyebrow musing over what her captain just iterated and wondered something else, "Indeed Captain...and also why is a Vulcan ship transmitting such an iniquitous message in the first place. Far be it for me to speculate ma'am, but perhaps their assailant is aboard their vessel."

Inzjana turned around and continued her study of the telemetry data from the subspace sensors. All evidence suggested that the vessel they were heading towards, now at maximum warp, was the only vessel on this vector, but any good scientist know's 'just because you cannot see something doesn't mean that it isn't there, it doesn't mean it is either'.

"And," T'Ra added, "before you were stationed here, what did your job as a pilot entail?" She was curious as to how much he had traveled, what his dealings with other races might have been.

Don perked up when he was asked about his first contact and knowledge of space that the Discovery was discovering for Starfleet.

"They love entertainment, sports and gambling. Could be the reason of the song on that Vulcan ship," he said. Then he went back explaining onward. "Which is run by the Unity. Unity is a hologram race. Which rumors says it has to do with the Voyager trip with the Doctor," he shared.

Now this next information he was going to share was going sound silly. "Then there these three foot teddy bears which look cute, they call them Tewoks. However don't judge the cover of the book. They are extremely dangerous. The archenemy of the Tewoks are the Jackoroos. They are like kangaroos packs, Heavy with amor and weapons. Bigger they can make them the better. Then those bears get their hands on them and turn it on them."

Then here comes the fun part. "All the species around the regions do enter the starship races. That's where I came in.  Awhile ago, I was over hearing some pilot at a Starbase on our side of the universe. I had not much going for me. So I went and entered a few races. Won a all lot!" He white lied the all lot. It was not, but a few. There was no more he wanted to share. It was some good and some bad. It was never good enough to get him ahead. He was like a drifter. Some companies sponsors sponsored him, but then some greedy D'Kooo came to sneak in his ship to sabotage everything he created.

Alexander Wu

Alex closed his eyes momentarily, trying in vain to ignore Mr.Addams' rambling, none of which seemed pertinent to their current conundrum. "Whatever's going on, it doesn't sound like we're going to be arriving at something positive." He speculated, glancing over his shoulder. "Inzjana, any luck on matching the sensor signature to a specific ship? It'd certainly help if we could pull up some information from the database...who they are and where they were going."

"Mr.Addams, I reckon you must be a proficient pilot with so many titles under your belt. With all the races you've been in, how familiar are you with the technology of other species? Potentially non-Federation?"

T'Ra nodded at the science officer's remark. It was something that had not occurred to her, that there might be an intruder on the ship itself. "Let's continue scanning for signs of cloaked vessels. Inzjana, can you detect any subspace disturbances that might interfere with any further communications between their ship and ours?"

"Well, sir, their technology is a grade under us. Hyperspace age. Maybe a little advance on some ships," he added. It was technology he babbled when he was youngling when he was on planetside with his dad.

[As Steve]
Steve never liked turbolifts. They were built for humans, not raptors like him, and more often than not, they didn't register his presence or closed on his tail. It didn't hurt him, exactly. But it was never a comfortable function for him to regrow a tip of a tail that had been left on deck 3, disassociated from him. But today, he was feeling a bit lazy and took it anyways. Playdates with his little friend, T'Lana were quite the event now, especially as she was learning to catch up to him. But he didn't mind. Those were fun.
Claws clicking on the hard metal floor, he hopped over to his mommy and sat on her lap, fitting in between the console and her. He had to be on guard duty now. She had a little one too now. Though it took her long enough to realize it. Humans were certainly funny.
His head perked as he heard the word "Fish" Fish was tasty. Especially Fish sticks. It wasn't orange jello, but one of his little friends in the daycare, Joey, gave him some the other day. Now if only he could hack the replicators again. Then he could get more fish sticks...

[As Ardy]
Ardy zoned out as the scientists began musing and technobabbling about what to do. Registering the fuzzy form of Steve dutifully standing guard over her unborn child, she petted it lazily. "I see something much bigger on the long range scanners. Should we head for it?"

BRIDGE - SCIENCE STATION ONE

The sensors still showed only one vessel and although her science team were hard at work but Montana and Rajagopalan have really had no experience with starships that could cloak, except herself, who was born on a Scimitar Class Warbird and Mart'Ang her Klingon science officer.
Cloaking devices use to just hide optically, then they could hide optically and thermally and then subspace cloaks came in to play, but no matter which was used vessel cloaked used fuel just like any other. The Romulans and Klingons worked hard to rid their vessels of any tell-tale with even the Romulans inventing the Phase-Shift Cloaking Device, which the Federation tried to imitate. Luckily for the Discovery they had Inzjana and Mart'Ang on board to 'see' past the illusion, which is exactly what the two had been doing.

Inzjana was hoping that it was a Klingon cloaking device which wasn't as advanced as the Romulan version and was looking for spatial distortions, but was also looking for quintessence particles, the tell-tail for the latest Romulan cloaking device. Unfortunately they were using a Romulan cloaking device, fortunately it was an older version and Mart'Ang was the first to spot it from Science Lab Two and excitedly - for a Klingon - sent Inzjana a text with the telemetry attached. Inzjana sent a text back to Mart'Ang congratulating him on his observance.

Inzjana was listening to the commanding officer of the Discovery with her mouth open, the words caught in her throat, for she was about to inform her captain of their findings at moment T'Ra asked, "Indeed Captain, Ensign Mart'Ang in Science Lab Two has spotted two distortions in close proximity to the Vulcan ship. Their vector suggests that we will intercept both cloaked vessels before we could reach the Vulcans ma'am."

"Bring us to red alert and increase warp to maximum speed," T'Ra said, speaking both to the flight officers as well as the bridge in general. After about thirty seconds, the klaxons died down, though the blinking lights continued to cast a scarlet glow upon the faces of those present on the bridge. Once the ringing stopped in her ears, T'Ra turned to Adams. "You ready for some excitement?"

(Now that I am back.. I'll try to get us back on track...)

[Bridge]

Nevir sighed, but held on as the ship was brought in closer.  As they neared the location of the missing Science Vessel, a massive space station came into view, in a configuration that was clearly alien.  Distortions were everywhere, but they were all surprisingly inconsistent, which ruled out any ships cloaked.

"Captain... there's a signal underneath that... music..." he said, clearly not impressed with the original broadcast.  "I'm clearing it up." he said, before putting it on the screen.

"This will be an automated distress signal.  This is the Vulcan Science Vessel Sarek.  We have encountered an unknown power drain that has forced us to abandon the ship.  We have taken refuge into the nearby station to await for rescue, near what we believe is the operations center of the station.  Power levels are too low to secure our computers, and we have lost lifesupport on all decks.  This will be the final message from the Sarek.  This will be an automa-"

Nevir stood up, his arms crossed.  "It obviously did not drain all of the power... perhaps the ship drifted too far out of range.  Or they were able to stop the power drain.  Either way, it seems clear that we have two locations to check out.  Captain?" he said, turning towards T'Ra.

Jebediah Schrock

[Bridge]

This was Jeb's first day on the job. He was in a state of constant awe of the ship, of deep space, and of just about everything else. Even his uniform, a mundane and functional one (the closest thing on this ship, other than crew quarters, to the plain practices of his Amish childhood), bedazzled him.
As he exited the turbolift and entered the bridge, Jeb's amazement both grew and began to be overshadowed with nervousness. The atmosphere seemed tense, there was something going on, and he could swear he was a dinosaur out the corner of his eye (he had heard rumors of one, but didn't know if they were true or if his eyes were playing tricks on him). To make matters more baffling, a Vulcan woman with 4 pips and a red collar (the Captain?) was at the Ops console.
He shuffled towards the oh-so-very-senior officer, and nervously addressed her.
"Um... uh... Captain. I can... uh... handle that... console."
Almost immediately he mentally slapped himself for sounding as nervous as he really was. That would absolutely not play to his advantage.

"At ease, crewman," T'Ra replied, stepping away from console to allow the fresh face to take up Ops. She seldom addressed people by rank, but at the moment there was too much to investigate without getting to the bottom of whatever this kid's name was. Her brow furrowed as she contemplated the additional information. "Are you saying we have two geese to chase now?" A goose chase... an odd choice of words for her, one of Evan's mannerisms rubbing off on her.

"I thought it was two birds and," one stone. "Crap," he added with a sheepish grin.

Anyway, he was on the bridge with a red alert. A new crew member came in who looked like he was gonna fall apart. He had wondered the boy needed someone to hold his hand to guide him to his station.

"Captain, do you need my presence," the question was a good one, but he was thinking why you asking when you want to stay. It was the right thing to do. It could be the last time he will be on the bridge. He turned to look at the screen. It was going like being home. More to think on.
