First Officer's Log, Stardate 73348.02

The Discovery is back en route to Starbase Columbus after our latest detour.  This time, however, we have a more pressing matter than just a rescue, as former Chief Science Officer Johan Speilenburg is facing more than just a court-martial back home.  To be honest, after Mr Adams's quick actions taking helm control for Gamma Hull, I personally don't want to give him up so easily.  I took the liberty into looking into his records, and he was a Starfleet officer for a time.  There has to be a reason why he decided to leave, and I'm not one to try and change that.

Captain Jones has been quieter than usual, and appears to have a lot on her mind.  I've been taking on more and more of the command responsibilities, but I don't mind.  What I do mind, however, is the situation brewing in the Science Department.  The Department needs a leader, but I am very hesitant to appoint a new person.  The only officer I see potential is Inzjana, but considering her last... interaction... with Johan, I am not sure if she would even want the position. She is the most qualified, but will there be another issue against her?  I've spent the last couple of days weighing the pros and cons of all the science officers, and each time I keep going back to her.

There are other matters, however, that need to be addressed, and I have the peculiar task this morning to talk on a subject I did not expect to address, though in hindsight I should have expected.

[XO's Ready Room]

There were a half dozen PADDs on the desk, each one with a different personnel record, and each one displaying a medical report.  The same medical report.  For the same issue.  And Nevir just happened to have the highest ranked officer with this medical report.  He looked up at his flight officer, a look of compassion instead of judgement.  It was too unique a situation.

"The timeline does fit up perfectly.... I have no doubts," he said, sighing.  "Have you told him yet?" he said, his eyes on Jaeger.

Inzjana

PERSONAL QUARTERS

After the nebula incident and now the Discovery was heading back to Starbase Columbia, the science department wasn't needed, so Inzjana had spent the time in her quarters to heal.
Of course the first thing she did was to have a long sonic shower. Inzjana also couldn't help looking at the wound that wasn't there, it was completely healed and there was no trace that she had been shot. But shouldn't there be? She asked herself. But in the end, it was logical to put it down as excellent doctoring by the medical staff. After all, that was one thing Inzjana did not have a doctorate in and that was medicine, not because she wasn't interested but the council of the Vulcan Science Academy had decided that nine doctorates were enough. She didn't argue.

Kara, Inzjana's pet rabbit was also very happy to see her, jumping around the room and wanting to be petted, which despite all logic to the contrary, was actually helping her mental state and meditation came easily. Of course there had been many studies of how well being could be attained by the love of a pet, even on Vulcan. But it was well established that pets were for children as part of their training in to adult hood. Despite this, Inzjana's mother T'Vaal had acquired the rabbit from an acquaintance of Earth and had given it to her daughter as a birthday present. Kara was now only nearly two years old and had bonded with Inzjana almost immediately.

At present, several days in to their journey back to the barn, as humans say, Inzjana was sitting on her couch with Kara beside her and was quietly reading back through her notes and schematics for the Tachyon Magneto-Gravitic Drive, the drive design that Inzjana had been working on for some time. It was a pet project and even though it had been finished a long time ago, Inzjana was in no hurry to submit it to the Daystrom Institute.

Inzjana new of course that the Chief Science Officer position was now up for grabs and of course she wanted it, who wouldn't? She would prefer to be in the top position rather than have another Johan on their hands and despite the thought it was a concern of her's, as illogical as that might be.

After lunch Inzjana made her way to science lab two, her home away from home, which was currently void of any one else, suiting Inzjana just fine. It wasn't the Tachyon Magneto-Gravitic Drive she was concerned with now, that was safely hidden away on her smart-glass which was back in her quarters,  where Inzjana had requested it to be sent from the table she was lunching at earlier. Before it was rudely interrupted by a Phaser wielding megalomaniac.

A place she found difficult to return to at present, but she was largely over her ordeal now and was back to being a Vulcan/Romulan science officer assigned aboard the USS Discovery.

Mission after mission, Discovery had been on the receiving end of the stick, and Alex was glad they were finally on their way home for a much needed overhaul. He didn't say it aloud or broadcast it to the crew, but he did sense the same relief from most of them. It had been a relatively quiet shift so far, with barely a peep from either Nevir or T'ra.

Glancing over at the closed ready room doors, Alex hid the concern from his face, though he certainly felt more than his share. Whatever stress the crew felt, it was without a doubt that the Captain felt tenfold. Tekin had taken up some of the responsibilities best he could, as did Alex, but some of the absences were unavoidably noticeable. If it wasn't for the fact that her husband was a doctor onboard, Alex would've already had words for the CMO, but he had hopes that it was under Evan's direction T'ra was taking some well deserved time off.

Don Damien Addams

[holo deck]

Recently, Don's ship, Flaming Star Addams sat in the middle of the plain holodeck. To Don it was like being on a pedestal. Everything that his mother gave him went into that ship. It was peace and joy in his universe. And now its gone. Its was thrown the past like everything he owned. Taken away. Lost his mother and father in a divorce and they both died long time ago. Now. He had nothing. Except the excitement flying in that battle ship. That was something he had enjoy. Seeing that huge whale creature and defending it. Would he want to continue that direction.

Don knew they were heading to Columbus Starbase. They had to deal with that person who had try to assassin the half Vulcan, half Romulan. Least he knew the truth from her. That how he liked. Facts from the horses mouth. It was a direct approach as he liked it.

He crossed his arms across his chest, his right hand went under his chin. A thought came upon him. What if he can modify a Shuttle to be faster and better? That was something he would like to do. He had a holoroom for it.

How would he finance his own idea if he stays as a Civilian. Damn. What can he do?

T'Ra Jones

[Personal Quarters]

T'Ra was not one to sit still. Even when she was tired, she was always doing something; maybe it was the Vulcan in her. But once it was clear the crew wasn't facing some sort of imminent death, Evan commanded that she took a few days off to recharge. Even without the chaos of commanding a starship, he argued, she was a new mother, and that alone could affect quite the toll on her body. So after a lot of coaxing and prodding, she finally collapsed into the bed that they shared and slept.

She hadn't realized just how exhausted she was until she woke a good thirteen hours later. Evan, she mused, must have ordered that no one disturb her for anything, unless perhaps the ship was on fire, but probably not even then. Yawning like a big cat, she stretched her muscles, still under the duvet (she couldn't remember crawling under the sheet -- or changing out of her uniform), smiling softly at the precious child who still slumbered, before calling to the bridge.

-/\-This is the captain. Everything running smoothly up there?-/\- she asked, resisting the urge to yawn mid-sentence.

Ardyn looked at the Commander, mutely shaking her head in response. "I haven't exactly told him yet, as I'm still figuring out my options," she shrugged with a sigh and a slight grimace.

"It's going to be awkward in any case, so I'm just going to be keeping this baby news quiet for as long as I can. It'll be easier to do it on my terms when I'm ready." She mused, fingering a pen aimlessly.

[XO's Office]

Nevir nodded, putting her file down.  "You do have plenty of options.  For a Flight officer there isn't too many concerns during gestation, but after the first trimester you will be restricted from small craft piloting for missions.  And obviously away team is out of the question.  This won't affect you too much, as you're normally at the helm, but considering what led up to this ordeal, I know how much you like to fly." he said, remembering his encounter with her inebriated self.

"And to think... I was about to ground you..." he said, shaking his head.

"Your options are all your own.  Was this a mistake, I would say yes, but the power is in your hands now." he said, leaning back.  "Should you choose to follow through, there are plenty of support options here, and we do have family crew quarters for you and the baby.  The Captain herself is a new mother, and my first three children were all born in space, so we are all here for you.  It's up to you.  A child does not need to be the end of your career.  That said, considering the circumstances, we can also remove the problem altogether." he said, reaching for a different PADD and pushing a button on there, bringing up Alex's file.

The challenge you are going to face is not with the life inside you, but the life that leads you.  You two were a close knit department before, if anyone was guarenteed to be infected together, it would have been you two.  The real question then is... what are your personal feelings for him... and do you wish to pursue a relationship.  Ideally I would not want to be involved in your personal lives, but this is a delicate situation that could affect your department... which means I have to be involved.  So... what should I know about you and Alex?"

Alex stirred in his seat, straightening subconsciously as T'ra's voice came through. =/\="Good Morning Captain, this is Wu. We are still on course to Starbase Columbus at warp 6, estimated time of arrival is ninety-two hours. Our current heading will take us through a sparsely mapped region of space in just under an hour, stellar cartography assures me they will have the sensors tuned and ready by the time we reach that boundary."=/\=

With so few opportunities for cartography to actually do their jobs in discovering and charting new regions of space, Alex had decided to throw them a bone when they came to him about this particular area. It didn't deviate from their original flight plan much, and it would, in the end, benefit future travellers. =/\="Shall I let you know when we enter that region?"=/\=

Ardy nodded, as she listened to the commander. She knew the regulations for pregnancy. heck, she even had to enforce it once for a crewwoman who tried to do her spacecraft marshaling duties while 7 months pregnant, but it was a very different thing now, as she was the one with the baby, and she didn't quite look forward to that.

Straightening up, Ardyn pondered for a moment when Tekin asked her about her relationship with Alex. "It's interesting, to say the least. I like him. He's a good guy. We've done a little flirting from time to time down in Ten-Forward, but it's too early to tell. From what I've read on him mentally, I think he might like me back, even, but I have no idea how a baby would affect us."

Crewman Gates is married and she's now in the same boat.  I guess we should have expected this to happen when the entire ship goes sex crazy.  Thank the Prophets for Inzjana's quick if risky, solution..." he added... though it wasn't clear if it was due to the situation, or if he was personally thankful.

"If anything comes up, Ardyn, please let me know.  Otherwise, dismissed." he said, standing up.

Morning, T'Ra mused, was a relative term, especially in space. And today it felt good. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so well rested. -/\-That would be appreciated, Mr. Wu,-/\- she replied, kicking off the covers and swinging her legs over the side of the bed.

Perhaps at hearing the sheets rustle, T'Lana began to stir, letting out a soft cry. "Keine Sorge, Kleine," T'Ra cooed. "Mutti ist ja hier."

[Holodeck]

A boyish grin grew on his face. He could fly this version in the Holodeck. That would feed his appetite for flying.

"Hey Computer honey,  program a Saturn rings, please," he asked.

He quickly ran toward to the ship and ran in it before the program started. As he did, there was a thud of an asteroid hitting the side of the ship. "Hey, Computer darling, remind me not start to quick," he said.

As he slammed his right palm against the door button to close the hatch. His feet was beating the floor as he was feeling home again. Damn, it feels to real!

BAM!

"Sheesh, SHIELDS UP!!" He yelled to the computer. No response. "I said SHIELDS UP!" He yelled as he shoved himself in the pilot seat. "What is with you?" He was racing his fingers through the console.

A white flash appeared and he found himself in the blank holodeck.

"WHAT!!!!" He yelled. "Computer baby! Why did you end it?"

=/\= Destruction.  =/\=

"Destruction?" He asked. "Destruction...How....why?" He was looking around with such a confused look.  Then it came to him. "For the love of flying! I did not program the computer system in the program. Well do it now," he told the ship. "I give the specs by file by file. Get ready and I name them off one by one," he told the computer. Which takes awhile cause there was all lot he put in the design.

Swapping seats with Ensign Shawhan, she began bringing up the stellar cartography of the area. "We are approaching the edge of the uncharted region. All the mapping tools are ready and online."

The lab was unusually quiet as he entered... more so than the main science lab he had just come from.  Nevir could have very easily called her on the comms... had her come to him.  But he needed the walk, and she deserved to be in a quiet place.  Plus... he admittedly still felt a bit awkward for the whole kiss thing.  And unlike Ardyn, he couldn't fall back on the polywater infection.

Letting the doors close behind him, he took a couple of steps behind her, seeing the younger officer quietly working.

"From what I read, you barely got time to check your own projects with the CSO breathing down your neck.  This must be a welcome change." he said, announcing his presence with his voice.

"If you are available, we need to talk."
