S12 - M8: A New Toy
« on: April 03, 2018, 03:35:29 am »
[Bridge]

T'Ra rubbed the bridge of her nose in an attempt to banish the exhaustion that had come to plague her once again. She tried to remember the last restful night of sleep she had gotten, but found she could not. Little T'Lana had been crying and would not be soothed by her mother's embrace or her father's amusing German ditties. Sleepless nights were one of the many joys of motherhood, but they were beginning to take their toll on the captain. She stared blankly at the main viewer a few seconds before barking out, "Status report?" It was not uncommon for her to begin a shift with this question, but it was usually a lot more monotonous.

[Deck Three - First Officer's Personal Quarters]

The perks of being a command-level officer.... Nevir stepped out of the water shower, dripping with liquid goodness that gave the clean feeling a sonic shower could never really do.  Brushing off the excess water, Nevir wrapped himself in a towel, and grabbed a robe, before walking out to his room.

He was taking a well-deserved rest after the harrowing adventures he already had, and hoping that the more mundane week they had would last a bit longer.  Being the vessel in uncharted territory tends to give more action than a routine science mission.

Lost in his thoughts, Nevir was dressed before he realized it, but kept the robe on all the same.  Sitting down at his console, he decided that he might as well check up on his science research.  He was on call, and while the Captain was on the bridge, he was not required to be there.  At least not for another couple of hours.

[Crew lounge]

The ancient reptile eyes blinked at the pilot as he sipped his cup of brandy. The man had his cup lowered so his eyes was looking back over the cup. They both were staring each other in the eyes. Seconds. Both were not blinking. They were in a daze. The lizard blinked. "Ha! You blinked first!" The human exclaimed to the holographic character.

"They call you Steve, eh?" He asked. "Not Stephen. Stevie. Steven?" He asked.

The dinosaur hissed and snorted.

As he was looking down at the table, he placed the cup down. Staring down at the cup. "I don't like your name," he shared. Steve stretched his head against the man's head. "Not sure, it just does not fit, buddy," he added.

"However, I call you Steve," a smug smile grew on his face. "Your the counselor on this ship here?" He asked. The dinosaur quickly nodded his head up and down. It was much like it.

"And you help people too?" He added.

Steve nodded his head more with excitement.

"And they like it?"

Steve nodded his head more.

"You know your not real?"

That ancient creature nodded his head twice. Stopped. Blinked twice. Tilted his head with a question look. Then it gave a small growl.

"Okay. You are real. Real like me as you are real," Don said. "I don't get it. Starfleet allows this?" He asked.

The Dinosaur nodded and growled.

"So, your telling me this commander of this outfit is cool? Like he was on that planet they found me?" He was asking more questions.

The dinosaur growled and hissed a few times. "Okay he is cool. And you want me to stay here. Stick around cause you think it's the best?" He was shaking his head. "So let say you convince me to stay. You are not gonna make me your mascot?" He joked. The dinosaur gave a hissing sound that sounded like a dinosaur laugh. "Well, we see if I have a place to fit in," he told the creature.

"Wrench please," Ardyn asked as Steve handed the tool to her. She was making just a few little modifications yet again. It kept her busy, which was just the way she liked to be.  Making a few turns on the bolt, she made one quick last check before finally satisfied then finally scooted out from underneath the Flyer. She wasn't exactly needed on the bridge right now, and she was just fine to avoid any awkward interactions right now. "Come on buddy," she said, motioning to the little raptor to follow her, "I could definitely use a drink about now."

[Lounge]

Ordering a glass of scotch, she downed a long drink, feeling the warm buzzing feeling as the stuff worked its' magic.

Looking around, Ardyn noticed Steve checking out the new guy they had picked up just recently from that one planet. Of course, Steve would gravitate to the new person in the room like a moth to a flame. He probably had more friends than Ardy ever had in her life.

Moving over to the section of the bar where the pair were, mainly to make sure Steve didn't get himself into any trouble, she shrugged and signaled the barkeep to get another drink. "I see you made friends with my dinosaur here." Steve squeaked cheerfully as Ardy began lazily scratching him under his chin with a slight smirk. "He really likes people, as you probably could tell."

The bartender slid her the drink and Ardy lazily stirred it. "So, what brought you down here before we found you on that rock? "

Don dark brown eyes followed the female as she sat down. The dinosaur was in pleasure as it was being patted. He quickly smiled at the two. "Yes, he makes good company," he shared.

Now, she was making small talk. "My ship," he said. There was a twinkle in his eyes.  He was throwing humor out in the basket ball court.

"Truth to be told. I was racing," he told her. "Was going to pass that planet there. And next thing, My engines cut on me," he said. He shrugged his shoulders and gave small laugh. "I thought I pushed the engines to far. So I crashed."

Looking at Steve. "So, you're the owner of this antique lizard?" He asked. "Never think you see one on a Starship...especially a Starfleet with her strict rules on what and nots."

[Epilogue, Medbay, some time afterward]

The only real downside to all the fun of an away team mission was the mandatory medical check afterward. She knew the reasons behind it, with all the potential strains of alien viruses and whatnot that could infect the whole ship, but It all felt like a ploy to drag her into the medbay to get poked by the doctors yet again. At least this time, it was by Buehler. She trusted him a lot more than Dr. Meadows when she was on the Shran, that was for certain.

"Morning, Doc. Can we hurry and get this over with?"
[Sickbay - NPC Evan Buehler]

Most people didn't care to linger any longer than necessary, so as soon as he had said clear of contamination, Ardy split. -/\-Buehler to Lieutenant Jaeger, please report to sickbay when you have a moment.-/\-

Evan scratched his head, wondering how to break the news to the flight officer when she arrived. It was nothing urgent, and he wasn't entirely positive, but he wanted to run a quick test. And in any case, she needed to know. Poor girl probably didn't have a clue. Not that it was his business, Jaeger wasn't seeing anyone, and she didn't seem the type to sleep around... So, what to do, what to say? But it was a conundrum better addressed sooner than later.

Ardyn raised her eyebrow at the man. "Racing, eh? " she asked, very much intrigued by his story
"I actually did a bit of racing before my Starfleet days. Was pretty &*@% good at it too. I think I still hold the record for the fastest time on the Risa Grand Prix, no one's gotten close since."

Steve nosed her and began purring as he rubbed up against her. "Yeah, I created this little guy back when I was on the Shran, mainly to overshadow Ensign Murphy and that ridiculous duck of his. Anyhow, my commanding officers were cool with it all, so he stays.

Her commbadge buzzed, and oddly from the doctor.  That was certainly strange. She thought she was cleared for duty after that last away team mission. =/\= "This is Jaeger. I'm on my way. Be there in a moment" =/\= She shrugged to the man she was talking to as she walked out the door. "I gotta go, apparently. If you want to hang out with Steve, be my guest. "

Making her way to the medbay, she came in and eyed Buehler curiously, wondering just why she had been called back to his office. " Did Steve get into your office again? I told him not to go down here unless he was requested."

Great. Competition. "I bet your not good as me," he challenged her.

As she mentioned a duck, Smitten the kitten poked his little black head out of the pilot's shirt. Don put his right hand on the kitten's head. "We are not going to be out beat by Steve here and Lieutenant's piloting skills."

Seemed Sick bay had called for Jaeger for whatever medical purpose. "Wish you luck, see you later, Lieutenant," he watched Jaeger leave. He thought to himself, I am gonna beat you in a race.

Then he turned to look at Steve. "She got spunk. I like that."

PERSONNEL LOUNGE

Inzjana sat a a table in the corner of the room facing the bar, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible sipping her Coca-Cola. Not your typical Vulcan drink, but Inzjana was not your typical Vulcan, being half Romulan.

It had been a week since their foray to the planet of thieves and for the most part Inzjana had returned back to her usual and comfortable routine, after all, what was life without routine - interesting probably, she thought. Her usual day started off with her getting woken up screaming from nightmares getting only one hour of the usual two Vulcans need every rotation - solar day - had a sonic shower, fed herself and her rabbit and at some point got dressed in a clean uniform and made her to Science Lab 2 to continue her research and usual duties. At lunch she would make her way down to the lounge and order usually a Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza and a Coca-Cola.

No one actually asked her why she never ate Vulcan style food, but the answer was actually simple. It was a common misconception that Vulcans preferred bland food. Yes they are vegetarians but this is replicated food and therefore was actually constructed of plant-based molecules anyway. When it came to bland food, the answer was usually, no, Vulcans hardly ate bland food, except for some recipes, preferring spicy and salty foods instead. Coming from an arid world, Vulcan taste buds weren't as efficient as human taste buds and the same could be said for their sense of smell. It was Vulcan eyesight and hearing (and natural intelligence) that was superior to most life forms, as they were nocturnal predators by biological morphology and are used to a thinner atmosphere. This is why Vulcans wear tinted contact lenses, making their eyes seem darker than they really are as Starfleet vessels are too well lit for their night-vision capable eyes.

After lunch, sitting and eating alone, usually with her favourite PADD, called a Smart-Glass, she would then go back to the lab, finish her shift and then would retire back to her Quarters for dinner. She would then feed and water her rabbit and watch some old and new holovid programs on her Smart-Glass and go to bed after another sonic shower...in other words...routine.

She wouldn't admit it to anyone, but Inzjana was lonely. Oh sure it never really bothered her before and was never bonded to anyone back on T'Khasi (Vulcan name for their planet) and every time she would ask her mother why, she would always get the same answer, or rather lack of it; "You are special", is all her mum would say and when pressed further would change the subject entirely. Inzjana thought it may be because she was half-Romulan, a logical assumption given the bad-blood between the two same but different species. But that didn't gel any more, given that the lack of childhood memories had troubled her immensely. So much so, that given her lack of childhood memories and the nightmares in regards to having to kill her Romulan aunt, Inzjana nearly walked in to the medical bay multiple times to talk with the doctor, but thankfully changed her mind.

Still, Inzjana wanted so much to talk with someone, seeing as her meditations were taking longer to make her breathing abdominal instead of chested and quieting the mind was almost impossible. She managed to achieve it so far, but how long was that going to last.

Being a fellow Vulcan, Inzjana felt the need to confide in the captain, but they were not exactly friends, after all the captain was on the bridge and Inzjana was in science lab 2, but hey, anything can happen on a Starfleet vessel.

"Evan, I'm going to go over some medical records as I see a few of the crew are late for physicals If you need me just call out". Steven knew that he could leave the Captain's husband to get on with day to day things and this was a good time to check the records.

Of course he would need to speak with either Tekin or the Captain to schedule all the medicals but then again he was due to check up on the Captain anyway. He then walked over to the nearby console and started to check the logs, sorting them by last medical date.

=/\= Doctor Black to Captain Jones, when you have time Captain I would like to discuss crew physicals with you =/\= He then opened up the most overdue crew member and shook his head how could someone be 6 months late for a physical.

T'Ra was still rubbing the bridge of her nose when her comm badge pinged. Ach du meine gte, she thought. Evan must have said something, or maybe if she was lucky, it was another matter altogether. -/\-Acknowledged,-/\- she replied, lazily tapping her badge. Begrudgingly, she pushed herself out of her chair. "You have the con," she told an officer at the conn.

Evan just nodded, not saying a word, his mind still scrambling to find a way to word the problem. Doctor Black disappeared into around a corner, and the doors to sickbay slid apart, dispersing his thoughts. "Guten Morgen, Miss Jaeger," he offered as the flight lieutenant approached. "No, no. It's nothing like that. Though I think little T'Lana could do with a visit from him." The young Vulcan had been especially restless and cranky lately, and the raptor seemed to have a soothing affect.

"Actually, I asked for you to come because something came up in the scans I ran when you returned from the planet, and I wanted to run another quick test." He reached for a tricorder, adding, "Have you been experiencing any unusual symptoms lately? Feeling nauseous in the mornings, perhaps moody, and erm, can you remember the last time you bled?"

DD sipped his brandy once more. His eyes shifted to the lonely Vulcan officer. He frowned at her spot. It seemed the Vulcans had always been outcast. They always seem to be solitude creatures.

"Steve, lets go bring ourselves over give her some company," he said. He had picked up Stave carefully and carried the holographic creature over with his brandy in his hand. Sadly, some of his drink spilled out of the cup.

"Hey, ears! Can the two of join you?" He asked. She was not eating Vulcan type food. Perhaps she could be half human? The way she was kissing the commander officer.

"You have the con," she told an officer at the conn.

After a long week of debriefing and writing up reports regarding the incident where Tekin's team had been taken hostage, Alex was coming to the conclusion that Starfleet actually did care about losing equipment and resources. At the end of the day, he hadn't given the order to launch tricobalt devices, a decision that probably saved many lives on the surface below, but also meant several tricorders and medical kits were left behind. Considering the planet's now high-caution designation in the Federation database, it was apparently quite a faux-pas on his part.

It gave him enough of a headache that Alex was actually enjoying this rare occasion he could just stare out at the stars. Of course it didn't last long as usual. "Aye Captain." He replied, replacing T'ra at the conn as a junior officer took over the helm.

EQ stood at the Sec/Tac station.  It has been awhile since he had been on active duty.  But it felt nice to be back in the swing of things.

He has worked quietly.  Tapping buttons and monitoring the board.   "All systems at normal level, Sir" he finally called out.

[Sickbay - NPC Evan Buehler]

Evan just nodded, not saying a word, his mind still scrambling to find a way to word the problem. Doctor Black disappeared into around a corner, and the doors to sickbay slid apart, dispersing his thoughts. "Guten Morgen, Miss Jaeger," he offered as the flight lieutenant approached. "No, no. It's nothing like that. Though I think little T'Lana could do with a visit from him." The young Vulcan had been especially restless and cranky lately, and the raptor seemed to have a soothing effect.

[Medbay]
Sitting down on the biobed, Ardyn kicked her feet up onto a nearby stool. "I'll ask him to go over and play with her. That is if I can ever get him off my lap when I'm on duty. It's his new favorite place to sit for some reason." She shrugged as she let Buehler scan her.

"As for anything weird, I haven't felt anything different recently. I'm a bit behind on my cycle, but that's probably just stress-related. I've been taking a few double shifts recently since Shawhan went on leave."

She gave the doctor a good long look. "Why do you ask?"
