Ardy nodded as she sat back down "I'll put in those programs as soon as I'm off-duty, boss." Steve trilled softly. He wasn't all too happy about the modifications, but orders were orders. Even he understood that. Nodding to Ian, she smirked. "Yup. He's a holographic therapy animal that I created, as he helps me with some of my PTSD. And whenever I don't need him, he's a therapy animal for the rest of the crew. He doesn't bite unless it's a red-alert scenario and he clearly sees one of the crew in danger."

Noticing Addams coming up to her, Ardy swiveled the chair to face him, putting the ship on cruise control. "I'm doing alright. Tired and sore, but that's normal these days." She said, rubbing her abdomen, which had finally begun to manifest itself somewhat. "She's starting to kick around in there, that's for certain." Before she could respond any further, she received a chime at the dash. "Tekin, we've got a bit of an asteroid field coming up in the next few minutes. Engaging manual controls."

For a moment he just continued to monitor comm frequencies, until Chief Reyes came to take over. With that, the young Crewman vacated the console, and headed for a replicator outside the bridge to get a lunch. On his way out, Jeb passed close to the new officer, Lt. Cmdr. Galloway. The man was understandably baffled by Steve, as Jebby had been earlier, so the young crewman set out to explain to his superior.
"Steve is supposed to be the ship's mascot, Sir. I think he might also have some therapeutic aspects."
This was probably the most flattering reason for Steve's existence that could be given, but it felt right to Jeb.

[Bridge]

Ian kept his face impassive and offered a simple.

"I see."

As a response to the presence of a dinosaur, wearing a powdered wig no less, on the bridge. The idea that it was supposed to be a therapy animal set off a whole new line of questions that raced along in a stream of consciousness fashion.

"As the ship doesn't have a counselor, either the CMO or this helmsman, a pregnant helmsman at that, had to figure out a means to cope with a psychological disorder, but then what woman would find comfort in a predator dinosaur, which leads to if it's for her issue, why is it allowed to be on the bridge? Even for a ship's mascot, the bridge should be off limits. And it bites during red alerts? What in the bloody hell kind of ship is this?"

Knowing that giving voice to any of these concerns would only cast him in a bad light, Ian said nothing except to add one last comment to the captain.

"With your leave Sir, I will go to the shuttle bay and coordinate the small craft. I can pilot the USS Allegany during the away mission to provide on scene operational control.

Kali had spent the time crew watching, which wasn't completely out of her job range. She learned very quickly that their second officer was a bit tightlipped for this particular crew.

She slowly turned her chair to the side to address him.

"Are you going to go solo on this or do you need to request a co-pilot, sir?" Kali asked politely. After all, that was her job. Assigning things.

Ian faced the chief and paused before replying.

"I suppose the level of support depends on the situation at Zacrim when we get there. I doubt I'll need a co-pilot, but someone from Ops would be welcome. I will let you know."

Ian kept his face neutral as his gaze fell upon the hologram 'Steve' causing his Standard to slip as he replied.

"Aye, she's a right bonnie Lass there Laddie."

Catching himself, he groaned internally, but managed a small smile.

"That is to say Ensign, the Prometheus-class is capable of things no other class of starships can even attempt. I look forward to taking her through her paces. I bet she can handle a 'Hammerhead Stall' better than a P-40 and while in multi-vector, she could do her own 'Thatch-Weave'."

Ian chuckled at the idea of the Tomahawk as a modern craft, but he also realized his knowledge of historical atmospheric aircraft was unusual in the 24th Century, which gave him an opportunity to educate the young officer about the era.

"Nae Lad, the P-40 is a more than 450 years old atmospheric craft used in an Earth conflict known as World War Two. Completely manually operated and my very favorite holoprogram recreates the exploits of a fighter group known as the Flying Tigers. It is my belief that you can nae truly consider yourself a pilot until you master one."

Ian smiled a genuine, warm smile at the ensign as he was beyond pleased to meet someone who obviously loved flying as much as he did. While he loved the members of Flight Ops on the Tempest, but they were all drivers used to the simplicity of modern ships, none of them had the soul to be a pilot. This young ensign however, seemed to have the temperament required to have wings. Ian offered his hand to the man and added.

"I did not get your name Ensign, I am Lieutenant Commander Ian Galloway, Discovery's new Flight Chief. I'm off duty at 1800, I've already uploaded the Flyin' Tigers program, so if'n you'd like ta meet me at holodeck two at 1900, we can introduce you ta the Tomahawk and then we can see what you do and do not know. Be warned Laddie, the ignition sequence on the P-40 consists of 28 steps and theirs no computer ta do any of it fer you. You might want ta replicate a flight manuel as the crew chief Flip will eat you alive if'n you set one of his planes on fire by gummin' up the start up."

Ian left things there as he strongly appreciated confidence, it was a core trait of a true pilot, but he didn't have time for anyone that was more talk than thought. Either the ensign would do his homework, or he wouldn't and the P-40 would eat him alive if he didn't.

Ardy grinned as Ian was talking about ship maneuvers. "You'll love how she handles in MVA, that's for certain, sir. Thatch weaves, strafing maneuvers, the whole works."  Leaning back, she smirked. "My specialty is more fighters and shuttlecraft, but the Disco, she's got class. You'll like her."

Listening as Galloway mentioned his holoprogram, she turned her attention on the upcoming asteroid field and deftly maneuvered around the worst of them before readjusting the flight program to compensate for the obstacles and get back on course. With that settled, she turned back to the other two, still talking shop.  "That's nice of ya to check on me, Addams, but I can handle myself here. I'm just pregnant, not an invalid. So I'm still good to fly." She cracked her knuckles. "Anyhow, I'm in the hankering for a good challenge. You're on, Galloway,"

Somewhere during this nerdfest, despite her fifth cup of coffee, Kali was trying valiantly to look at the comm frequencies to avoid falling asleep. Sure, Kali could fly things like any average Federation citizen and maybe join an illegal hoverbike circuit every once in awhile, but she was no savant with the kind of stuff they were talking about. She was more privy to the engineering aspects of a ship than its flight ability.

Kali started to wonder if she could just quietly get one of her Ops crewman to take over the station and slip off into the turbolift. "Psst... Crewman..." Schrute? Shroc? Shrok? "Schrock." There it is!

"Take over for me, will you?" She stole his seat before, she could easily un-steal it again. "Evaluation time!"

Ian's normal reaction to undue familiarity would have been to arch an eyebrow, but the idea of a pregnant woman subjected to the stresses required to fly a P-40 absolutely appalled him and his reaction showed in his expression.

"Lieutenant, some of the best pilots I've ever know were women, but Lass, you do not understand the nature of these atmospheric craft. There are no inertia dampeners of any kind, thus ye and thy bairn would be subjected ta up ta 6Gs on a routine basis and I don't think the holodeck safety protocols would protect either of you from injury. I seriously doubt any sane doctor would sign off on your participation in such a program, but before I will allow you into the cockpit of a Tomahawk, I'm goin' ta have ta see authorization by the CMO."

Ian shook off his uneasiness as the discussion had gotten out of hand and he needed to reestablish propriety.

"Sir, barrin' your objection, I will be in the shuttlebay preppin' the Zambezi and organizin' the shuttles should they be needed."

Only if you know what kind of pilot I am! he thought.

Oh. This was just got very interesting. It should had not surprised him. After all she was an Flight Officer.

He was not entailing that she was not capable. Just wanted to see she was wanted to step away. He had decided to keep his own thoughts to himself.

Darn, Kali had won the co-pilot position. Eh. She was higher rank. So it was meant to be. That would give him time to do his his homework on the tomahawks. He was fast learner on handle controls, but he knew for a fact he got to get hands on feeling on the unknown fighter.

Those words must tasted very sour for Jaeger. Being grounded was the worst thing for a pilot. Clip the wings off an insect and expect it to fly when it can't. Don felt very bad for her. However she was carrying a special gift from life. That was a precious thing women could do. Except the side effects of labor pains. He was glad he was not one.
