Synopsis: While passing through a known pirating area of space, the Discovery is hit by a mine that renders it totally without power. To include gravity. Can they make all repairs and get the ship back together and working before they have possible visitors?

"Report!" called the CO and XO almost simultaneously.

[Bridge]
Kinley's head throbbed. Trying to catch her balance and shake off the stars she was seeing, she felt herself lose contact with the floor and suddenly flying. Grabbing onto the computer panels she tried to get readouts to report to her superior officers. Nothing. Moving as best she could to one of the few computers connected to the Emergency power, she read off the stats. "We've lost all gravity controls and main power, and main computing as well. Aux power is working enough to keep life support up, but that's all it can handle." She pressed her hand on her head, trying to focus, but not seeming to be able to.

Deck 1 - Corridor

After leaving Kyle, Liv now in one of the corridors held onto what she could as she floated/propelled herself towards the nearest Jefferies tube knowing that it was the only way to get to her and Kyle's son. Her maternal instinct had well and truly kicked in pushing any fears or nerves to one side as she navigated her way along and also had faith in both her husband and crew that they would do their very best to return things to normal yet cursed whoever had done this to the ship.

She may of been away for over a year but remembered enough from her time aboard the Arizona and Challenger how to get from deck to deck in an emergency something she always made sure of with any new assignment plus having a former Chief Engineer as a husband also helped. Finally she found what she was looking for and after a slight struggle managed to gain access. Grabbing hold of the ladder she rested her head against it for a moment to catch her breath before slowly climbing down keeping a tight hold with each step she took until she reached the deck below.

[Deck 2 - Guest Quarters]

Olivia knew she had to keep going and once she was back out into the corridor, she floated and propelled herself again towards the guest quarters that had been assigned to Lucy the childminder she had brought with her to look after Elijah when she was on duty. Pushing herself up to the door, she prised it open enough with her hands and squeezed herself in. Relief washed through her at seeing her son held tightly in one hand by Lucy. " We can talk properly later but for now we need to stay safe " she said holding onto the bulkhead and all they could do was wait it out and hope things returned to normal.

[mess hall]

The Starfleet Vorta was sitting at a table. On the table was a piece of chocolate cake and a glass of milk. He had observed the humans eating it at one time. They had used a fork to pick up the delicacy. He grabbed the fork. His soft hands handled the eating tool like a knife. He stabbed the cake and tried to pry a piece of cake on the fork. He frowned. Maybe he scooped it up. Scooping had not worked.

How do they do it? he thought to himself.

One option left. Placing the fork on the table. His small hand grabbed the cake and he placed it in his mouth. It was soft, but there was no taste. He tried to move around in his mouth but there was nothing.

Maybe the milk adds the taste he thought to himself. Then he took the glass of milk and sipped. It was colder then he had expected because he was sensitive to cold. Swooshing the milk in his mouth. Nothing. There was a very faint sweet taste.

So, he placed the glass of milk on the table.

Then he felt the world around him shake. His instinct was to leap under the table for cover because his genetic from ancient times felt feared by the creatures who hunted them down.

His bright blue eyes watched as he was rising up as the chairs. Light weight covered his body. This was part of his training in Starfleet. Though he had not experience first hand. So worry was an invitation to him. He found himself looking for something to grab so he can go forward.

A chair was in his reach. He grabbed it. It was light as he was. He brought it up or was that side ways. Anyways he pushed into the ceiling and used that as a push toward to the mess hall door. He was flying through the air. Sadly, his small body went into the door and the door did not open.  The nom- gravity allowed him float away from the door. He had wondered he was being sentimental trying human delicacy was a mistake.

Nevir grabbed hold of the Captain's chair, pulling himself back to the ground, at least to keep himself relatively stable and oriented.  He tapped on the chair controls, but they were dark.  Another control gave him information he didn't want to hear.

"We've lost internal communication... auxillary is at 30% and slowly dropping.  Whatever hit us got the perfect shot.  We're dead in the water just barely holding on."

Great Kinley thought as she tried to still shake off the disorienting effects of the blow. They were sitting ducks alright. And she couldn't seem to be getting readings of anything. Period. "We need to get main power on. That should be our first priority, I think.Á¢â,¬Ëœ

[mess hall]

Being locked  in the mess hall was making him feel he was a trapped animal. His genetic genes had that implanted in DNA memory. Vorta had prefer be with numbers. Better surviving rate.

His body had nothing to grab to stabilize him. The second best thing to do was to call for help. He tapped his communication badge.

=^=Cadet Demlion to Bridge. We lost gravity and power =^= he said. His bright violet eyes noticed the light dimmed down as well. He had tried again. =^= Cadet Demlion to Bridge...hello? Is there anyone there?" He asked.

Floating in an room with floating chairs and nobody to help him. He was trying to figure how to open the door. He was feeling nervous. The world around him was out of his control.

Kyle listened to everything going on around him. Everyone had suggestions and they were all good. He thought for a moment before replying.

"While I agree we need everything on, right now, I think our priorities should be sensors and shields. Let's not forget where we are. We definitely don't need any visitors arriving and trying to board us. Let's get a list together and we'll send it down by courier to Chief Donovan. He'll be able to get several teams running at once for repairs." He ordered as he mentally began a list.

[Deck 2 - Guest Quarters]

Liv could feel her hand getting slippy as she tried to keep hold of the bulkhead, that was all she needed but not completely unexpected considering the effort she had undergone to reach her son and Lucy. She let go to rub her hand against the side of her shirt then looked over at Lucy who was starting to struggle slightly holding Elijah and knew she had to help. Propelling herself forward again she managed to grab the baby sling that had started floating upwards then stopped next to Lucy well the best she could.

" I know its not going to be easy but if we can get Elijah into here, it will be safer for him than trying to hold onto him" she explained then with some difficulty strapped the sling onto herself then when she was ready nodded to Lucy who after a struggle where the baby almost floated out of her grasp placed him in the sling.

Now that he was now slightly more secure Liv spoke to him and reassured him as both women found something else to hold onto.

[Mess hall]

It worked before. A chair had floated close enough for the Vorta to reach for it. He had tried to swing that chair into another chair. He missed. A chair behind him brushed his right shoulder blade. Thanking the Founders that he was not bruised from the hit. Vorta had soft skin which was easy bruised and cut.

In Starfleet training they had Cadets to be trained in Zero Gravity. He supposed to be prepared for it. In the training he was with other people so he felt secured. Now he was alone and he was really getting scared to death.

Looking at the wall that was next to him the one he had failed to get too. There was an idea in his head. It was logic to give it a go. He looked at the angle of the door and the wall to him. He needed to manage to push the chair at an angle, hoping the chair will come back and push him toward the door. As he headed to the door he would fight to the floor. Hoping the door will open. It sounded easy but to do it was another task.

Things went well, he soared toward down to the floor to the door. He felt the coldness of the door touch his hand as he held it. The door did not opened as he was hoping. He was finding his weightless body going up in an angle toward the ceiling.

This was why he hated to be alone. You fall and can't get up fast. He was hoping by his makers that he was not going to be at ceiling level when gravity came back up. His worries was making have motion sickness.

"Aye sir." Kinley said as she maneuvered herself to a reasonable upright position. "Whatever we do, we need to get the matrix for the scanner coding up and running. If we get a team of engineers on to fix power, we could probably rewire the rest of the critical functions through different auxiliary outputs, then maybe we can siphon energy where it needs to go. And hopefully not meet any unsavory sorts in the meanwhile. Does that sound like a legit plan?"

T'Vek's eyes fluttered open. One moment she'd been at the helm, the next she was on her back on a comfortable bed, staring up at a slowly-focusing ceiling. Even aboard a ship with state-of-the-art air scrubbers she could make out the sterile disinfectant smell of a medical room.

"What happened?" she asked aloud, unsure if there was anyone to hear her. "Doctor?"

Nevir had no choice but to shut off the panels on the Captain's chair, as he listened to both the Captain and Kinley.  Both had valid points.

"The matrix requires the main computer.  Our defensive systems can be rigged to main power, but that would be without targetting or control.  The problem is main power.  We need power to make repairs, but normally we could use the reserves for that.  But our reserves are draining quickly.  If it dips below 20%, there won't be enough power to restart the core and hold onto life support.  We don't have enough generators to power the central core.  My recommendation is to prioritize auxillery and main power.  We need to make sure what we do does not add to the drain on the ship.  Unfortunately, that would require a long trip down into the lower desks."

This was exactly what Kyle loved about the Discovery. Everyone came together and got things done. He had an amazing crew that all knew their jobs, and other positions, very well. The old Engineer in him took over.

"Agreed, Number One. Let's get an Ensign on his way to Engineering with the orders. Auxiliary and main power first. Then we can work on shields and weapons." Kyle replied as he turned toward the Ops station. "Chief." he called out to Kali. "Get with Mister Mackenzie and go through personnel files. Anyone with Zero gravity training needs to be paired with non trained personnel and armed. I want teams on every deck. I want us covered just in case we have visitors before we're able to get things back up and running. Let's get going folks."

Ziran Trell

#14

[Main Engineering]

Crewman Trell had just left his new, two person quarters on deck 13 and was introducing himself to Michael Donovan when the incident occurred. The chief was now busy handing out flashlights in the pitch black, miserable engineering room where the Bolian was having a tough time adjusting to work in a weightless environment and began to imagine how hard space travel must have been for his ancestors. The only other time he had been in a zero gravity situation was during an unforgettable extra vehicular activity training course at the Starfleet Technical Services Academy when he nearly drifted away from the exterior of the Miranda-Class light cruiser where the exercise had taken place

"Comm systems are down and we're barely maintaining life support." Ziran heard Donovan, who was surprisingly calm, declare in a loud and clear voice. It was inspiring for the new crewman to observe more experienced members of the U.S.S. Discovery working during an emergency.

"It's not easy working aboard a starship without the internal communication system. If I know Captain Briggs well enough, he'll probably send down someone to give us orders on what to repair but we can't use up precious time waiting." Donovan quickly told the assistant chief engineer while doing a whole load of other work simultaneously. "Trell, at this rate, how long do we have before we lose auxiliary power?"

Ziran glanced at the flickering LCARS panel located beside him.

"Um..." The inexperienced Bolian was beginning to be distracted by all the possible outcomes he was developing in his mind. "Approximately one hour, sir." He replied with an easily noticeable nervous tone in his voice.
