[Captain's room]

Blinking a couple times out of shock, Kinley tried to process what was going on. Holy crap.
She thought. She hadn't expected to get thrust up so high in the rankings as early as she did, but here she was.  And if they thought she could get the job done, she wouldn't let them down.    "Alright. If you guys think that I'm ready, I'll take the job."

[Captain's Ready Room - USS Discovery]

Kyle smiled once more. "We wouldn't have made the move without knowing you could handle it. You've worked hard for it and have had an amazing instructor." he said. "As the Commander said, he's still Science at heart and he wouldn't just hand the department over to just anyone. It's his baby. Now, speaking of Science and such. I believe we have a nebula to study and I'd hate to keep my two best science officers away from it. We'll have a little celebration later. For now, let's get Starfleet their reports on this thing. Dismissed."

Kyle stood and turned to the window as the duo left the Ready Room. He released a sigh of contentment. He was happy to be back on the Discovery. It was his home. But he had found himself lately, wondering if it was still his life.

[Ready Room]

Nevir smirked.  "I didn't think I was ready when I was promoted.. both as Chief Science and XO.  If you wait until you think you're ready, you'll miss that opportunity.  You have me to rely on, Kinley.  Both as First Officer, and as Science.  Anything you need I'll have for you." he said, as the Captain dismissed them.

"For now, I'll give you the option.  You can take Bridge station with the senior officers, or leave Jettis where he is and take the time to move into your new office." he said, leading her out.

As Nevir entered the Bridge, he wasted no time.  "Report." he said, as he moved towards the Captain's chair.  "Kali, do you need anything? he asked, as he listened to the bridge.  Turning towards the view screen, he frowned at what they were looking at.

"I hate seeing planets in a nebula.... never a good sight." he said, looking through what the team scanned.  "Dense core?  Might not be a planet... I think thats a grandfather..." he said, not as interested as the rest of the bridge for a broken planet.

"Soreka, is this the source of the metal scans?"

[Quarter Pound Catburger]

"Where was this at?" Klabax asked, looking with a curious gaze at the man's reactions. He wasn't a psychologist but it was still interesting to see how emotional stimuli fuddled with different beings... especially when confronted with cute fluffy needy things. "Well it seems that you did a good job." he said, neither congratulatory or condesending, but a slight softness in his voice. "Many of these pets are rescues as well, or the offspring thereof." When the man mentioned El-Aurian Klabax didn't know exactly what the significance was, but could easily deduce it was along the lines of several other expressions he'd heard.

"Yes, quite a few of them have been handled through history... For instance there are, among my collections, Altarian marsupials, Calrissian Chamelions, Regulan bloodworks, osmotic eels, and even one or two Lyssarian Desert Larvae." he said. They had various healing abilities, but some of them around were just for comfort- such as the tribble now cooing away.  "I sometimes find Nature provides the answers without chemicals, if one only looks."

[Quater moon]

"When I was on Earth," he said. Not adding the time on earth was way back in the twentieth century. "The Native Indians in the northern continent and other areas on earth. They had used nature remedies to heal themselves," he was going to share the experience when he was in that time, but as a story like he was not there, but he was there.

He was continuing patting the cat. He was indeed enjoy the feline's company and of course the good doctor's too. He was glad he had the chance to break the ice with the doctor.  The El-Aurian knew everyone had side of them which MOST people don't know. Especially little security guy.

He leaned in as he was sharing a deep secret of the universe. "They had a period in that time when United States of America had depended on pills for about everything.  Anxiety pills. Happiness. They even had pills to promise to take your fat away. They had depression pills with side effects saying you might have depression and suicide thoughts," he rolled his eyes with a small disgust. "What amazes me was this...all that time they became ignorant of the nature remedies around them. I can tell you. Medical field was very in demand in those time. You think would enjoy that period."

D'Vid looked around the room at the animals. He was thinking about asking the doctor about his own animal feeding habits and how he dealt with them. There was much more he had wanted to know. It was nice to be able to have a communication. They both had something in common. Animals. They both liked animals.

[Bridge]

As soon as Tekin arrived on the Bridge, he snapped back to attention, turning towards him slightly. "We've been scanning the nebula, and have subsequently found what appears to be a planet. The level of damage would indicate some sort of natural disaster, but the unnatural patterns that look almost like a type of advanced phaser would dictate otherwise." He reported as asked. Pausing for a moment, he went on, "I've already logged it for the map, but it was suggested that we send a probe to further investigate it." He posed the suggestion, before going back to his Station, listening to the others' reports.

His gaze strayed to someone new standing on the Bridge, supposedly without anything to do or to study, with this being primarily scientific. Cocking his head, he offered her a smile. "Welcome aboard the Discovery, Ensign." He said, quiet enough that he might as well have mouthed it, not wanting to disturb the others with his talking.

"That we cannot say with a certainly Sir, Like Jettis just said, there is conflicting information on what we are looking at. and the interference from the nebula itself is not helping the situation." Zuriel said looking over the notes coming in from across the bridge by the senior crew.

"In any case Sir I think you have us on the right track, it is just a question as to how we proceed from this point, a probe would be sufficient and safe, as long as it stays calm out there we should be able to transmit and receive for the science department." Zuriel replied respectfully as he turned in his chair for a moment, "I don't think having the ship and closer would be a good idea, from my readings, there are odd gravity wells in and around the remains of the planet. I can fly it if you need me sir, but I would ask for a yellow alert, just so no one spills their coffee."

Nevir put the PADD down, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow towards his science officer on duty.  "Lieutenant, why are warp speeds inside a nebula all but forbidden for Federation starships?" he said, trying to remind Jettis of the basic components of a nebula.

Sighing, he shook his head, after hearing the answer.  "I'm more inclined to think this is a grandfather star than a stripped planet.  Prepare a class 2 probe.  Let's get around this and keep on the path.  Trim out the body from the scans, see if there is another signature.  Otherwise, let's move on to sector 2-D."

Lennox Ainsley

[Bridge]

Lennox stood on the bridge, readying himself for anything that would be of interest. He was getting itchy feet, wondering whether he was at all needed for this expedition at the current moment. Having seen that Tekin had walked in, he stood a little straighter as he approached, waiting for him to finish his current line of speech.

"Sir, will you be needing anything from Tactical?"

"Class 2 probe is ready sir, ready to launch at your command." Zuriel said as he signaled flight to prep the machines for the Science department, he then jumped right in the second order of moving along. Zuriel made sure to be careful as they were still in a slightly volatile nebula.
"Course updated Sir, Bearing 022 Mark 0." Zuriel kept a close eye on the speed of the ship, and more time reading the sensors, if luck training prevailed he would be at least have enough time to react if he had to."Moving us right along."

Kali Reyes

[Bridge]

Jettis and Zuriel talked so much science shop it made Kali's head spin when it should be bouncing two steps ahead of them. She forced herself to tune them out before the heady beating in her ears drowned everything else out.

She raise her hand absently at Kyan's little quip and stretched out on the Captain's chair and the comfy padding. If Tekin hadn't arrived, she probably would have dozed off. Low energy, dampened spirit, it was plenty obvious that she was stricken with something, though she'd forever deny it.

Then, like something out of a comedy, she promptly collapsed.

Zex was out of her seat within a matter of seconds.  She placed her fingers one of Kali's wrists.  An with her other hand, some on the COB's forehead.  Watching for the rise and fall of Kali's chest as she did.

"Thank You, sir, but though as much as I would like to get settled in my new office, I think we'd better check the bridge. From what I've been hearing on the comm channels, there's something rather cool outside. I think we should probably go check it out. "
Making her way towards the science station, she peered over Jettis's shoulder at the science station. The stats on whatever this space formation was was rather impressive, she had to admit. However, her train of thought was interrupted when all of a sudden, out of the corner of Kinley's vision, she saw  Kali collapse to the ground. Dashing towards the medical cabinet, she grabbed the first aid kit and handed it to the Deltan medical officer. "Here you go, ma'am.  Do you need anything else for me to grab?"

[Bridge]

Jettis had paused to think for a moment, confused. He knew the components of a Nebula, and failed to see how that invalidated what he had reported. By the time his brain had caught up, and he opened his mouth to reply, a sudden commotion broke out on the Bridge, as Kali collapsed where she stood.

=/\="Bridge to Sickbay, someone has collapsed on the Bridge. Please send someone up immediately."=/\= He responded as he shot to his feet, but didn't move any closer. Too many cooks in the kitchen would spoil the food, too many Doctors around one patient would just make it harder for Zex to figure out what had happened.
So instead, he waited for any direct orders he could do to help, standing back from the cluster of people.

Kyan Mackenzie

:: Bridge | USS Discovery ::

Kyan vacated the XO's seat upon his return and retreated to his station, where Ainsley was working. No sooner than he got there, he heard the thump of Kali making her introduction to the deck plating. As the rest of the crew scrambled to her aid, Kyan stayed back. It wasn't that he was unsympathetic to her plight; he liked the grup just fine. But centuries of conditioning just kicked in.

Never go near a sick grup. They will go crazy and try to eat/maim/kill you.

He had spent the lion's share of his existence adhering to that maxim. And just because they were on a starship, hundreds of light years from his planet, he wasn't going to just abandon it now. Plus, he wasn't a doctor anyways, thanks be to the Powers. Ainsley went to help her anyway, and Kinley, and the new doctor person. So she would be ok.

Oh. But he had sat next to her when he came to the bridge hadn't he? What if her germs had gotten onto him somehow? What if this was some sort of weird alien virus? Maybe from those aliens that had kidnapped him last mission?

Well this was a fine thumb in the eye. Damned aliens and their viruses!

Quote

=/\="Bridge to Sickbay, someone has collapsed on the Bridge. Please send someone up immediately."=/\=

Great. The place would soon be crawling with doctors and their hyposprayers and scanners and other vile tools. Why didn't they just beam her away from the rest of them? Or carry her down there. Or something!? The bugs were probably crawling around the whole bridge the now, infecting everyone. Not a good situation.

Kyan was growing visibly agitated as they crew loitered around, waiting for the doctors to come and collect the sick grup. This silliness was how plagues got started! Kyan decided that we wasn't going to wait around for some alien death plague to get him too... if it hadn't already, the creatures!

"Lieutenant Bradley, Can you activate the environmental air scrubber things to clean up the air on the bridge so that she doesn't infect everyone else? And I will erect a forcefield around her so that her germs don't spread any more than they already have, the creatures!"

As he awaited the Ops officers reply, Kyan set to work programing the force field on his console.

"Thank you" Zex replied.  She had noticed signs of breathing and a good, strong pulse.  She opened the kit and pulled out a tri corder, and passed it over Kali's body.

It indicated a 'flu' type virus.  But an exam in Sickbay would likely still be needed.  Especially since the COB had passed out.
