Leela Kaz

[Transporter Room]

Leela entered the transporter room with her repair kit in tow. She flashed a smile to the team that had already assembled. "Don't worry captain, I brought a hammer." She said looking towards Briggs and giving her repair kit a slight pat.

"Looking good, everyone. Just a few more arrivals and we'll start beaming over. Any last minute questions or thoughts?" he asked.

"Sir, if I may." Leela said as she turned to address the group. "Please remember, these aren't like the nice clean ships that you're used to. We're likely to find a ship that has been cross circuited to hell and back. Our predecessors weren't privy to all of our equipment. They had to make due with what they had and that often lead to some rather... creative... solutions. Don't unplug anything without consulting me. You could inadvertently trigger god knows what... or even cut life support."

Briefing Room

Jane nodded in response.

"Aye Captain." She said. Getting up and exited the Briefing room. She made her way straight Back to the Amory where she assembled her security team and issued phasers to the Away team. With a type 2 phaser and a tricorder at her waist and holding a compressed phaser rifle in her hands, she led her team to the transporter room.

Transporter Room

Assigning two members of the security team to each of the groups. She went over to where the Doctor was.

"Doctor. These are Petty Officers T'Parr and Dawson. They will be accompanying you to sickbay. They won't get in the way but they are responsible for your safety." Jane said, introducing the two crewmen.

[Transporter Room]

He nodded to the rest of the remarks sent his way. He also looked at the security detail with enormous distaste. He didn't need these... Children in his way. He knew, despite D'Angelo's assurances, that they would get in his way. He could handle himself! He had seen enough to be able to. He nodded to the crewmen anyways. "I'll be sure not to break your Petty Officers, Ensign." he said, very disinterested in the surroundings.

He heard the linguistic joke of Sassa, but chose to ignore it. It was the simple things in life that seemed to take care of some people. "Having weapons does not guarantee our safety." he said simply. "I've known plenty of people who died with a phaser unfired in their hand."

He wasn't joking either. Though he might be bringing own the mood, he was bringing what appeared to be some much needed seriousness and practicality to the room.

When he thought about it, he decided he wasn't fond of anyone in the ship going over, really. Especially not the child. He may be older than Klabax but he was still a child in appearance.

He nodded to the warnings of the ship's dangers. He'd likely ignore them. He'd unplug what ever and investigate who ever he wanted. With that minor nuisance done, all that remained was to beam over. He looked at the two security again, watching them mirror his every mood. He wondered if they'd been assigned to protect him, or watch him. Likely some of both.

Sassa was confused by the words of the Doctor.  She hadn't meant to imply any joviality.

"Then I trust it's none of us Doctor, I was merely trying to ascertain how you meant your comment."

She looked to Ms Kaz and said "You're safe with me on that one, I don't pull things as Engineering is seriously not my forte.  If someone says to me 'hold that, pull that wire, I can and will follow instructions.  Otherwise, no, I'll let others check them over first!"

"That position, Mr Scott, would not only be unavailing but also undignified."

Kyan Mackenzie

"You prepared there, Mister Mackenzie?"

Kyan smiled and nodded enthusiastically. "Yep. I've got ev'rythin I need, by Lugh of the many skills, and I don't plan on getting caught by some space monster and have my guts sprayed all over some broken down old ship the now.

Kyan nodded, deciding to pitch his two pennies into the conversation.

"Aye, to be specific, these ships were all made with duotronic systems, so they're all wires and circuits and ancient things. You'll probably find nary a port to plug into, or anything. It's all knobs and toggles and bleep bleep whir over there, if anything works at all. Also... Doctor..." He couldn't hide his revulsion that the old sawbones was going on the trip. Probably had a bag full of hypo sprayers and other torture tools that his ilk always had on them... "If they DID have any of those cryo-freezers....probably best to leave them be, lest they are mad men bent on taking over the ship and killing everyone. That always seems ta happen with the cryo-frozen folk. So... yep."

[Transporter Room]

Kyle entered the Transporter Room and surveyed the already gathered faces. They were only waiting in a few that still had some time. He saw Doctor Cottle eyeing his Security detailed as if he were wishing they'd disappear. He smiled as he started walking around and checking on everyone and their gear. He noticed a bulge under Mackenzie's jacket. "You prepared there, Mister Mackenzie?" Kyle asked with a knowing grin. Kyle had read the man's files and had noticed his fondness for weapons. As Kyle enjoyed learning about and using new weapons, he decided he would approach Kyan after this mission if all went well.

"Looking good, everyone. Just a few more arrivals and we'll start beaming over. Any last minute questions or thoughts?" he asked.

[Transporter room]

"No sir," Lennox replied, his gaze sweeping over to Mackenzie with a twitch of his eyebrow as he, too, spied the large bulge.

The Scotsman repressed a smirk as he eyed the doctor, who seemed pissed that he had a security detail, but such was life. He listened closely to what Mackenzie had to say about the ship, growing more and more intrigued by the moment as he had spent most of his life fixing smaller ships and such, though a larger ship was just as easy but with more room to go horribly wrong. "Should'a seen some o' 'he merchant ships I used te work on..."

"Corvis oculum corvi non eruit."

Aretah Bixox

[Briefing Room]

The tiniest of flickers rolled through Aretah's brow at the announcement, but the young woman kept her thoughts to herself. Surely there was more to the situation; perhaps Ms. Reyes had caught the Captain's attention before Aretah herself had entered the ship? It just seemed odd to her that essentially sleeping through being a lifesource for an alien would warrant such a promotion? A mental shrug had her pushing it from her thoughts, it did not matter to her one bit who was the head of Operations.

When she stood to exit, she caught Kali's gaze and gave her a nod of acknowledgement before leaving the room. She had enough people vying for her attention.

[Transporter Room]

It seemed rather symbolic to have a medical tricorder attached to one hip and a phaser to the other.  Professionally, she was neither a healer nor a fighter, but personally she had experience with both and it was a rather tight rope to walk. She was half deep in thought, and half in the continued meditative state she had developed a habit of falling into, when she heard the Captain ask if they had any questions.

"Looking good, everyone. Just a few more arrivals and we'll start beaming over. Any last minute questions or thoughts?" he asked.

Keeping silent as she released the meditation, Aretah took a fortifying breath and simply shook her head. She was as ready as she would ever be.

Tekin Nevir

[Transporter Room]

Nevir had taken longer than he would have liked... debating on going there as a team leader or as a science officer... in the end he decided there was no problem doing both and entered the room to see the assembled team already there.  He adjusted the container he had on his shoulder and walked over near the pad themselves.

"Sorry about that, sir.  Got held up in the science lab." he said, doing last minutes checks on himself.

"I'm ready.. let's do this."

"I completely understand, Lieutenant. I have no misgivings about who knows these ships best." he replied with a smile. "Okay. Bridge team first. Tekin, Mackenzie, Reyes and D'Angelo. You're up." He watched as they climbed onto the transporter pad. "Stay safe folks. Energize."

A few seconds later and they were gone. "Sickbay team." he called out looking over at Doctor Cottle. "Cottle, Bixox and...Doctor Cottles new friends." Kyle couldn't help himself. The disgruntled doctor, for some reason, reminded him of his Grandfather. He just couldn't resist teasing with the older gentleman. As Cottle past by, Kyle leaned in slightly toward him. "Please try not to kill your Security detail, Doc." he whispered with a grin and a wink. They duplicated the move of the first team and just as quickly, were gone.

Kyle looked around at the remaining personnel. That leaves us, people." he said to Kaz, Sassa and Ainsley. "Shall we go see what stories the Hargraves has to tell us?" They all climbed up onto the pad and after a short molecule scramble, found themselves in the Engineering room of the other ship. Kyle couldn't help but to look around in amazement. "Wow." he said as he also happened to catch a glance of the look on Kaz's face. "I know. Hands to myself." he teased. "Where do we start, Lieutenant?" he asked.

Jane heard the order and alongside the others made her way on to the pad. A few seconds later the transporter activated and she found herself on the Bridge of the freighter.

Bridge - USS Hargreaves

When they materialized it was pitch dark. Jane immediately switched on the wrist mounted flashlight and looked around the compact Bridge. She was somewhat surprised to see no central command chair. Instead there were two seats at the console directly in front of the screen with another console to the rear at the right. She headed straight to the centre console, figuring that any tactical systems would most likely be there. She tried activating a few of the controls but with no success. She turned to Reyes.

"Can you take a look at these?" She asked, indicating the console. "There appears to be some power but noting seems to be working."

[USS Hargreaves - Bridge]

First it was bright from the lights on the transporter and then they found themselves in a decaying, empty darkness. When D'Angelo flashed on her light, Kali instinctively followed by turning on her scanner and switching the settings to a light source. She wasn't surprised to see the bridge way more condensed than their own. Antares class ships like these minimized crew pool for larger cargo holds.

D'Angelo gestured to the consoles, one of them still barely alive. "That's what I'm here for," Kali replied cheerfully and snapped on her safety gloves. It wasn't the possible feedback that would bother her, but the static. She'd rather not get shocked by a console without proper maintenance in God knows how long.

She flipped a couple of switching just because, but no dice. "Light's on, but no one's home," she murmured and slapped down the rusted maintenance casing until it buckled and slid off. "Knock, knock!" Yep, the circuit board was blown, but what she saw in there surprised her.

"Look at this," she gestured and pointed her scanner light inside. "Power going from operations is fried to hell, so they stuck at least three tricorders to compensate. Desperate, shoddy. Completely inelegant. But boy does that work." If they wanted to get anything done on these consoles, she was going to have to manually mess with the optic cables itself.

She punched up Kaz on her combadge. "Ms. Kaz, can you tell me if Engineering is still putting out power through the Bridge? Don't care if it's just to turn the lights on." Her life would be a hell of a lot easier if she could pull data chips without worrying about blowing something up in the process.

Bridge

Jane stood aside to let Reyes do her thing. She flashed her light around the bridge, noting the compact design, obviously designed to operate with a minimum of crew. Nothing appeared to be working so she kept her eyes peeled and waited for power to be restored.

[Main Engineering - USS Hargraves]

Leela materialized with the team inside the engine room. It was pitch black, the only breaks in the darkness were a few small blinking lights from buttons on consoles throughout the engine room. The air was stale. She reached to her hip and fumbled to locate a small flashlight. "Let's see what we're working with here." She said as she turned on the light and shined it directly in front of her. As the light illuminated the engine room, she felt that she had transported back in time. It was a clean environment. Some equipment left lying around. She remembered the sights and sounds from years long gone by. A flood of memories and emotion flooded her. Nantia was unexpectedly killed in an engine room that looked much like this one... merely weeks after graduating the academy. She took a deep breathe and regained her focus. "Over there." She said shining a light to a power distribution and operations systems.

She moved across the engine room and squatted beside the console. With a swift, forceful, tug she removed the panel and shined her light inside. The light revealed a tangled array of wires that seemed to encompass all of the colors in the spectrum. "Oh my god." She muttered. "Preta, don't fail me now." She said looking up towards the ceiling of the engine room.

=/\="I'm already on it, standby Chief."=/\=

After a few moments of assessing the web of wires she winced as she reached for a yellow wire and pulled. A loud crackle came from the nearby ship operations console. "That doesn't sound right." As she stood and made her way over to investigate several loud thumps came from every corner of the room and the lights flickered several times before finally remaining illuminated.

"Ah there we go." She said flashing a proud smile towards Kyle. She turned off her flashlight and placed it back in the holder on her hip. "Thank you Preta." She added grasping her hands together, mimicking a gesture of prayer.

[USS Hargreaves - Bridge]

Not only did Kaz confirm there was power, but she was already powering through to the bridge with it. Before Kali could tell her about the individually powered tricorders, everything around her started to come up live - including the console wirings under her fingers.

"Oh... sh-" She reached for the tricorders before they got fried, but she didn't work at light speed. Her fingers caught on the sparks and overheated metal forsaking safety to unhook and take out the tricorders. By the time she managed to divert the power away from the console, her gloves were starting to melt and almost caught fire, and only two of the three tricorders could be salvaged.

Kali quickly ripped off the gloves and examined her fingers after she popped the hatch back on. Minor burns, negligible. She had worse time putting a hovercar together. A bit angry at herself, Kali pressed her combadge. "Bridge is lit, Kaz. And uh-" she flexed her fingers. "A little something extra."

Jane watched as power began to be restored. She could see sparks coming from the console where Reyes was working. She saw her pull out two tricorders with gloves that were melting. She went over to the Ops Chief.

"Are you alright Reyes?" She asked, wondering if she should call one of the medical team.
