Sahiba looked up to receive the smile of her department head, Sahiba stood up out of respect and put her PADD back on the table, she didn't want to look lazy, "like could not Imagine Doctor." Sahiba said almost laughing at the sight of it, "This crew is currently avoiding sickbay like the plague, forty five percent of the crew has not even had their physical yet, all we are getting are "Duty got in the way" waivers". Sahiba said literally using her fingers to make quotations, knowing full well when she was in the science department she pulled the same stunt.

"Is there anything you could use my help on Doctor, please don't hesitate to ask, I would be more than happy." Sahiba said almost pleading at this point.

Sickbay

Lizzie smiled at the almost pleading look Sahiba gave her.

"Unfortunately not. I'm doing all the routine paperwork that comes with being CMO. However if we still haven't had 45% of the physicals done then we need to push it. Draw up a list, by department, of everyone who has yet to report for their physical and I'll pass it onto their department heads with a gentle reminder. If we get no joy from that, then I'll go and see the XO and the Captain if need be. I will not hesitate to pull someone off duty if they keep flouting regulations like that. Are there any of the department heads or other senior staff on the list?" She asked.

Sahiba frowned a little before she picked up her PADD, she might be doomed to a day of boredom at this point.

"Ive already done is Doctor, as for the senior staff and above, none of them have checked in unless you performed them yourself, I'm the type to go them, but decorum is decorum and all that, right now see I Wu,Pardek,Dorran all have not come in, Ferris is on that list but I do believe he made an appointment. I'm starting to think this is an inside job Doctor, quite the scandal." Sahiba jested on her last, and handed the Doctor the PADD, "My husband is on that list too but don't you worry, I have my way of making him comply."

Ruth Sigurdsdottir

[Bridge]

Ruth stepped onto the bridge of the Discovery.  While she was familiar with a lot of the crew, although not with others, she didn't yet know the ship.

She nodded to Alex sitting in the command area and knowing that her boyfriend Will's best friend Kyle would would sat in the centre seat soon enough gave her a warm glow of happiness and contentment that couldn't be spoilt.  Those guys deserved this gig like no one else did.

Still it had surprised and pleased her that they had requested her as the CSO, and that Will was on board as the Ops Chief.  The grin still hadn't left the face of the redhead.

"Morning, Commander Wu!" she said with a grin.  She and Alex had served before and indeed, Alex had saved her life and she would likely never forget it, although she wouldn't make an issue of it.

"So, Kadzir Corridor? Is this some special treat you've devised for my little Stellar-Cartographer, Astro-Geologist heart?!" Ruth joked, although she was semi-serious, it was like a Scientist playground out there!

She wondered when Will would get on duty and how it would pan out with them both working in close proximity and seeing each other every day, and made a mental note to discuss with both Will and the CMO about his caffiene intake.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

Malcolm Adeyemi

[Quarters - USS Discovery]

Akemat th'Zul combed the snowy white blond hair atop his head and glanced in the mirror. The effects of aging are different with every person. Some kept a vigor and demeanor well into old age that belied their experience and years. Others were sound of mind and corrupt in body. But the eyes always reflected age.

The Andorian's eyes were shrewd and confident. A veteran's eyes. Someone who had seen death and dodged his kiss or spat on his face. There was a twisted kind of serenity to Akemat in expression. He had everything to live for but was not afraid to die.

"=/\=Computer, begin personal log.=/\=" he said while he fixed the blouse of his uniform. "=/\=Today the Discovery begins to map an unknown region of space. A good assignment for a security officer. I am likely to be busy for the next few days. Even as the lowest ranked officer in my department only the lazy or unimaginative can get bored on a starship. I am off to the brig to look through the security reports. Not the most auspicious job, granted, but it was one given to me. End log.=/\="

"And it's a hell of a lot better than dodging torpedoes." He said aloud. Another thing only a get would say. Few wanted to fight and kill, merely did the job they were assigned. And I'll take a safer job over combat any day.

Sickbay

Lizzie giggled at the Ensign's comment and took the PADD.

"I'll chase everyone else up, apart from your husband. I'll leave him to you. I'll get this forwarded to the DH's and copy the XO and CO in as well. I'll let you know if I need you to do anything." She replied before taking her leave and heading back to her office.

CMO's Office

Lizzie entered her office and decided that the best way to do it was to send a memo to the DH's. She opened her terminal and composed a memo.

Please be advised that the below members of the crew have not yet reported for their routine joining physicals. It is imperative that we get these completed without delay to prevent further implications. Can all Department Head's please ensure that the relevant members of their department make an appointment as soon as possible. Quote from: Ser Conley on May 08, 2016, 07:16:22 AM

"You're right, Ensign."  Ser said turning Ashley.  "We need to preparing for those drills.  Walk with me please, Ensign.  Carry on Lieutenant."  Ser said walking off towards the shuttle he just came out of.
[Shuttlebay]

Ashley shook her head. "This isn't over." She said as she gestured towards James before she turned to follow Ser. Once she was out of James's earshot she looked over to Ser and let out a frustrated sigh. "Why the hell are we just giving him free roam of our shuttlebay?"

Zero Alpha

[Sickbay]

Why was it that when physicals came around, the sickbay staff had to pull her out of her labs and onto the sickbay floor to help with the influx?  Zero would much rather be squirreled away in with her research than be forced to actually interact with people.  After all, she didn't get on with them and they didn't get on with her.

The situation was made somewhat worse by the fact that sickbay wasn't even busy at that point in time, yet her schedule still said she was required to be out on the floor.  Perhaps you should attempt to make acquaintance with your fellow medical officers, she thought to herself as she noticed the CMO returning to her office for some reason, leaving another officer alone.  Making 'friends' with people was not something she particularly wanted to so, but Leela hadtold her that it was an essential part of acclimating into society.

Moving over to Sahiba, she nodded to the junior officer.  "Greetings, Ensign.  What is the current status on physicals required for the new arrivals?"

Ser ignore her question for the moment, and walked into the shuttle.  He moved to the console and started tapping keys.  After a moment, the shuttle doors closed, leaving them alone.   His first day.  Back on the Discovery one day, and he had to reprimand someone.  This did not look good for the rest of the journey.  Ser took a deep breath, and let it out.

"Why did you become a Starfleet Officer?" He asked.

John Benjamin

[Shuttlebay]

John had been given the dreadful assignment of Landing Signal Officer for his current shift. Instead of doing something useful on the ship, John stood for hours as he watched others tinker with shuttlecraft.

While he muddled in boredom, John noticed a small spat unfold in the shuttle closest to him.

James shook his head before continuing his work. "Right then. How odd." He commented as his eyes darted between Ser, Ashley, and the shuttle he was working on.

John leaned to the side of his console. Should I say something...? he thought while making a face of utter confusion. People were not his strong suit, but John decided it was in his best interest to try.

"Well that...that was an interesting...I guess result uh, Lieutenant" John's words rang with a distinct desperation as he tried to figure out the best thing to say.

Kyle Briggs

[Ready Room]

Kyle sat at his desk, with PADD in hand, reading about the Kadzir Corridor. Their mission was to chart a little more of it for Starfleet. This would be a wonderful change of pace in Kyle's opinion. He had had far too many confrontational missions lately and could go for a nice quiet one for a change. Let the Science folks have all the fun on this one. he thought with a grin.

He sat back a look around for the one millionth time. He couldn't believe this was his Ready Room. He was forty five years old and had been in Starfleet for twenty six of those. He began in Engineering and had not had any aspirations of Command. Yet, here he was. Back on his very first posting, the USS Discovery. He had come full circle it would seem. They had just relaunched her and from the roster, she had an amazing crew aboard. Some he knew from previous postings. There was Wu, his new XO, who, like Kyle, was probably wondering how all this came about as well. Wu was a good officer and would make a great First Officer. He had the ever trusty Eli Ferris in the pilots seat. That took a lot off of Kyle's worries. Eli was the best. Kyle's old friend, Will Waring had been assigned as well, but they had yet to have a chance to speak. Then there were some new crew members and Kyle had made a vow to meet and get to know everyone of them. He was a firm believer that a happy crew wanted to come on and do their work.

He had just laid down the PADD and retrieved his cup of tea, when it beeped a new incoming message.

Two new messages. He was popular today.

"Kudos, Mister Ferris." he said with a slight laugh.

He'd get with Alex to make sure the Department Heads got their people in for the physicals. He much preferred that they didn't get pulled form duty if at all possible. But sometimes.....

He went to the next message.

Damn physicals. he thought with a smile. He should have known Doctor Vaughn wouldn't have forgotten about him. And of course, she didn't add them to the main list. He wondered if Allen had done his. Oh well. It was part of his ever growing duty to lead by example. He stop and walked over to the recycler and placed the cup in it. Picking up the PADD once more, he headed out of the Ready Room.

[Bridge]

The doors closed behind him as he stepped onto the Bridge. He saw Wu sitting in the center seat and just knew that the ambitious young would know doubt have one of his own before too long.

"I take it you saw the Doctor's message." he said to Alex. "What it didn't show, was my name. I'm gonna go down and get it over with and then I'll come up to relieve you so you can go if haven't already." He turned and headed for the lift. "Let me know if anything comes up, Number One. And don't let the kids get out of hand." he joked, referring to the Science Department.

[Sickbay]

A short lift ride and three minutes later, Kyle entered Sickbay.

"I'm looking for Doctor Vaughn." he said to the first person he saw.

"Good luck doctor, I think your going to need it." Sahiba smiled as she returned to her seat and desk. Sahiba was not totally sure what was going to happen in the next few hours, but she was very sure it was going to make the papers.

As one person left the room so did another enter it was Zero Alpha the medical researcher she had heard so much about. Some people found her presence to be unsettling, but Sahiba especially liked her thoughts, they were so linear that they were almost like music to Sahiba.

Sahiba looked up at the officer and gave her a warm smile, "Hello lieutenant, currently most of the senior command and crew have not reported in, with all things considered roughly forty five percent have yet to come in. I just explained this to the doctor and she seems dead set on changing the trend."
"Tell me Lieutenant, Hoe is your research going, and what is your current focus of study? I'm sure it must be fascinating." Sahiba said once gain putting her PADD down as to not be rude. Just then the CO walked in, this caused Sahiba to drop the current conversation and stand, "Hello sir, she is currently in her office sending out letters, but please help yourself." Sahiba said as she motioned to the office door.

"As you were, Ensign." he said, trying to keep it a light mood. He had always believed in being one with the crew, to an extent. He had had a run in with a Captain named Garland who was a strict, by the book man and had offered Kyle some advice. Kyle took it and made a pact with himself to find the middle ground between his way and the Garland way. "She contacted me about needing to get my physical done but if she's busy, I could come back later." he said as he offered a smile. "Or perhaps one of you could do it?" he asked.

"Thank you for coming so quickly Captain. If you'll take a seat on the bed here, I'll get it done as quickly as possible." She said indicating bed 2.

"When I'm done here, I'm gonna have Commander Wu come down for his and then we'll set out a schedule with the Department Heads to get everyone else filtered through. I prefer not to remove anyone from duty if it can be helped. And since we're on such an easy mission right now, I don't see any reason we can't get all of them in here." He closed his mouth and let her do her job after that.
