S11 - Mission 8: Fight Fire with Fire

Kirok stood in the center of the Kennedy Asteroid hanger.  He had just watched two fighter vessels fly off in the direction of the Discovery.  Soon they would be loaded and stored on the Discovery TIC - ready to help him the next time they faced Section 31.

Kirok stood in the center of the Kennedy Asteroid hanger.  He had just watched two fighter vessels fly off in the direction of the Discovery.  Soon they would be loaded and stored on the Discovery TIC - ready to help him the next time they faced Section 31.

While he was still in pain, not fully recovered John was making his rounds around the base. In the last forty-eight hours, with the help of the Shadow Mage and Discovery crew the base was much more operational than before. Slowly making his way over to Admiral Kirok who was watching the two fighters leave the hanger, he was truly impressed they were still operational.

"Good to see you again, Kirok. Hope the fighters help you in your fight, but you should know why I can't leave Kennedy yet and go with you when you leave. In five days, I will meet up with you on the Archimedes!" John spoke up for the first time since showing up. He just hoped certain elements wouldn't return here but he was shutting the entire base down until it's needed again.

Before the Director had entered, Kirok had tapped his combadge.  =/\=Kirok to the Discovery.  Two fighters are en route.  Please acknowlege=/\= he said.

Then Kirok turned to his friend.  "It is agreeable to see you as well.  On your feet and walking around this time which is an improvement" he replied with a nod.  "We will make due until you join us" he added.

"I assume you will be bringing EQ Kimball with you?  He seems like an interesting man.  I would like to get the chance to get to know him better, should the opportunity present itself" the half Vulcan said.

Before the Director had entered, Kirok had tapped his combadge.  =/\=Kirok to the Discovery.  Two fighters are en route.  Please acknowlege=/\= he said.

Then Kirok turned to his friend.  "It is agreeable to see you as well.  On your feet and walking around this time which is an improvement" he replied with a nod.  "We will make due until you join us" he added.

"I assume you will be bringing EQ Kimball with you?  He seems like an interesting man.  I would like to get the chance to get to know him better, should the opportunity present itself" the half Vulcan said.

He nodded, it was good to be on his feet again. "The poison still in my system but I have the temporary cure for it. At least to stop it until a full cure can be developed." He though about Mr. Kimball and came to a conclusion.

"I can have Mr. Kimball transferred over to the Discovery to act as an informal Intelligence Officer for you. He has all the knowledge and access to SFI databases to help you. Your decision."

[Kali Reyes]

[Kennedy - Command Center]

Kali had crawled under the environmental console with the idea to tweak the systems. It would take hours, of course, but not really. She simply wanted a quiet, comforting space of wires and circuit boards while she played with her now modified PADD - and hopefully it wasn't going to short out this time.

Level 2 access. She got a hold of the operations roster and casually breezed through it. Almost all of the names didn't matter to her, she just didn't recognize them, but one in particular did. Kali's fingers paused over the screen, brushing along the name, until a sound outside caused her to startle and bang her forehead along the stabilizing bar.

"OW!" she whined and scrambled to crawl out. "I'm coming, I'm coming!"

Katcha had the Bridge since the Admiral was still on the Starbase and Nevir was off duty. She sat in the command chair, making sure things ticked over. There was only her, a duty Ops officer and a duty Tactical officer on the Bridge. She was going over her departmental logs when the call came in. She immediately responded.

=/\=Discovery to Kirok. Ve receive and acknowledge. Preparing to receive zem. Discovery out!=/\=

Katcha closed the channel before opening another.

=/\=Bridge to Fighter Bay. Ve have 2 fighters inbound. Please prepare to receive zem.

=/\=Fighter Bay to Bridge. Received. Preparing to receive them.

Again she closed the channel and opened another.

=/\=Bridge to TIC. Ve have fighters inbound. Ze fighter bay has already been informed. Please advise if you need furzer personnel.

Kirok nodded his head for a moment as if fully considering the idea.  The name EQ Kimball had appeared to come to him during the visions he experienced from the Orb of Wisdom.  But working side by side with a liberated Borg was going to be uncomfortable for the crew - especially one who still had mechanical devices attached to his face.

"I could you an extra Engineer.  So, I will gladly take him aboard.  Thank you" Kirok finally said.

EQ had just entered the room and must have caused some noise.  "Apologies.  I did not mean to startle you" he said.  "Is there something I can assist you with?" he asked.

Mahak had been standing by the cryogenics controls, tapping away, for what felt like hours. The asteroid's AI, Cassandra, was a logical and straightforward machine, but it did not take comfort into account.

"Now align the cryonic flow, being careful not to go over the flow specs." The melodious voiced AI said.

"I never exceed specifications," Mahak declared, but he did as the AI asked, anyway.

"Excellent work, crewman. You have successfully optimized the cryogenic freezing system!"

"Thank you." The Vulcan said. "I should return to the Discovery now."

"Yes, of course, crewman. I have taken the liberty of notifying your ship's computer of your imminent arrival. How does the bridge sound?"

"As you will," Mahak said blandly. Within a few moments he was whisked back to the Discovery.

[Lennox Ainsley]

[Gun range - Discovery]

Lennox focused on the target in front of him. He was blowing off steam, having sworn off alcohol for the time being to regain some sort of mental strength. It was more for his wife and son than anything, as well as getting himself back up onto his feet. He had just cleaned, fixed and tested a couple of the phasers. Even going so far to sneak down a pistol that he had stored in his room.

He glanced at the time, before placing the rifle down and slotting his pistol back into the holster. He headed for the bridge.

[Kennedy - Cryonics Core]

"Thank you." The Vulcan said. "I should return to the Discovery now."

"Yes, of course, crewman. I have taken the liberty of notifying your ship's computer of your imminent arrival. How does the bridge sound?"

"As you will," Mahak said blandly. Within a few moments he was whisked back to the Discovery.

[Bridge]

It was a quick journey, enough time for him to come out of the Turbolift rubbing at his eyes, attempting to stifle a yawn before shaking off the last of the sleepiness to see that Mahak had returned.

Katcha nodded, even though the Admiral could not see and smiled. She then activated the internal coms system.

She closed the channel and was about to go back to her reports when there was a sound of a transporter behind her.

[Kennedy - Cryonics Core]

"As you will," Mahak said blandly. Within a few moments he was whisked back to the Discovery.

Katcha was turned and saw Mahak standing. She gave a small smile at the Crewman.

"Velcome back Mr Mahak. Do you reqvire rest or are you able to take ze Ops station?" She asked.

"Are ve keeping you up Mr Ainsley?" She asked, trying not to smile too much.

"Vell no matter, please take ze tactical station and let me have a report on ze current status." She continued in a more formal tone.

"I require no rest, ma'am," The Vulcan declared, some of the unthinking arrogance of his people in his voice. "I will resume my duties as ordered at once."

Mahak nodded to the beautiful Russian woman and to crewman Ainsley upon returning to the bridge. The Kennedy Asteroid's AI was efficient, and did not see a reason why he should be transported to his quarter's, the mess, or anywhere else but his duty station. Mahak agreed.

Ok, so the explosion may or may not have been her fault. But for the record, she used all the correct safety procedures and protocols, so, no one could fault her on that. Unfortunately, the explosion meant that  she'd have to try the laborious process of mixing and measuring chemicals all over again, a task she wasn't all that fond of. She was an astrophysicist, not a chemist, for crying out loud. But the Discovery's resident chemist, McCullogh, was in sickbay, recovering from a nasty stomach flu, so she had to do all the chemical analysis herself. As she began to prepare for the next test, she heard a knock on the lab doors, "Come on in. Nothing's blowing up right now!" She yelled.

"All critical systems are operating within normal parameters," Mahak said dispassionately. "There is a point two phase variance in the secondary power relays. However, as I stated, such a variance is well within normal operating para--"
