[Bridge]

The lift doors opened, emitting the small Flight controller onto the Discovery's bridge where the other officers and enlisted folk were gathered. Obviously he was a tad late, as the Vulcan Admiral was talking about something already.

"Yay! Good job!" Kyan offered. "Huzzah!"

Bridge

Katcha looked up as Mackenzie entered the Bridge, late as always. She barely managed to suppress a smile as he gave his usual rousing cheer in response to the announcement of Nevir to XO  and Reyes to COB and acting 2O. She completely agreed with the promotion of Nevir, he was easily the most suitable candidate. Reyes on the other hand, she had to question. She did not doubt the Admiral's intentions and maybe there was no other suitable candidate. She herself had no interest in command at the moment. In fact she had been thinking recently of applying for an instructors post at the Academy. She had heard that Commander Hernandez, the senior flight instructor, was looking to retire and her Father had suggested she apply for the vacancy. She decided not to say anything to the Admiral until she had made up her mind.

Leela Kaz

[Bridge]

Leela stepped onto the bridge with Ensign Markum in tow. She had several PADDs in hand that would provide both a high level overview and detailed accounts of critical systems. Another meeting. She thought as she joined her colleagues on the bridge. Although she had not had any major issues with their new Captain, she found herself frustrated with his propensity for meetings.

Quote from: Kirok

[Bridge]

Kirok waited for just a moment longer.  It was essential that everyone who had been called to the meeting hear the important message he was about to deliver.  In fact, their very lives could depend on it.

"I'm sure most of you are curious as to why I called a meeting on the Bridge instead of Conference Room.  And I'm sure just as many of you curious as to why I asked you to bring an additional person from your departments.  I will addresses those issues shortly" Kirok said.

"But first, I would like to announce that I have finally come to a decision regarding the Command Staff here.  Tekin Nevir has accepted and been assigned the duties and title of XO.  And Kali Reyes has been promoted to Acting Chief of Boat.  She will also handle the duties of Second Officer until such time that we find a need to fill the position" the half Vulcan said, indicated each person with a motion of his hand.

"I have come to trust both people.  Please help me to congratulate them for their promotions" Kirok added.  Then he deliberately paused to allow for responses.

It was obvious that the Trills mind was in a different quadrant, as she mulled over the status reports in her hand while Kirok spoke of his announcements. She forced a slight smile and nodded. "Commander. Chief. Congrats." She muttered. Although she was truly happy for them, she thought the big bridge announcement was a bit overkill. For a Vulcan... He has a flair for the dramatic. She thought with a slight chuckle under her breathe.

[Sickbay]

Klabax was in sickbay, as usual. He was currently in a lab section, running a few experiments on some biological tissue he'd obtained earlier. He had them running some form of experiment, but Klabax wasn't too interested in it. He was also working on paperwork from the last mission- who knew that activating the EMH had so much paperwork attached! That, and updating all the patient records.

He thought back to one injury that stood out. The vulcan. It was about time for a checkup, according to his records... but right now all Klabax cared about was if he was fit to return to full duty.

=/\= Crewman Mahak, report to Sickbay at your earliest convenience.=/\=

Hopefully this would be a simple wave of a tricorder and he'd be able to close this particular medical endeavor.
[Sickbay]

When Kintiss received the call, he was halfway through his eighth cup of Raktajino and hunting around the Discovery's medical database for the most effective stress management techniques. He had thought his time on the Phoenix was stressful, but this was going to be tougher, since the Captain appeared to have a death wish regarding fighting Section 31. Still, at least there were no secret Augments on board...as far as he knew.

Still, such things could wait in the face of duty. He wondered if Captain Kirok had found another way to endanger everyone aboard to satisfy his personal agenda.

"That can wait, Cottle," he said as he left his office and stretched briefly. "You're with me."

Klabax heard the man no sooner confirm the appointment than cancel it. He wasn't surprised. Medical matters took lowest priority anyways. He rolled his eyes before his boss walked in. He had gone back to his work when the Doctor countermanded the appointment he had scheduled, and had been canceled on. Seems that the fates had decided that the Vulcan was not to be in Sickbay today. Regardless, he his orders. He stood up and walked over. "Where are we going?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

He looked around the room once more before following the Chief Medical Officer to wherever they were going. The paperwork, and any appointments, could wait until later.

Kali Reyes

Quote from: Jettis Jyur on December 01, 2016, 06:34:47 PM

As Kirok announced the promotions, Jettis' eyes moved to both  of the officers, and he flashed Kali a bright smile at her confusion.
"Congratulations to both of you." He said, wondering if his small but sincere addition would be drowned out by everyone else. You deserve it. He added in his head, but didn't vocalize that thought.[/font]

Amidst the congratulations, Kali's wavering hesitance about the whole thing paused when Jettis smiled at her. She managed a quirk of her lips and tried to seem nonchalant about it, but it didn't work and she ended up folding her arms and looking as small as possible. Boisterous and loud as she was, it was so weird to go from unnamed crewman #456 and actually reach Chief of the Boat, let alone Second Officer.

I'm going to get so much shade for this on the scuttlebutt, she thought wryly.

Quote from: Mahak on December 01, 2016, 06:42:50 PM

[Bridge]

Mahak, if he was human, would have smiled at his superior's confusion. But he could only shake his head and address his chief in the same even tone he addressed everyone.

"Your surprise and modesty are illogical, Chief." Reyes was only a quarter Vulcan, and Mahak had appointed himself her official expert when it came to matters of logic, effeciency, science, and so on. "From the day you were posted here onto the Discovery I understand that you have more than capably performed your tasks and drills. It is only fitting that you be given more responsibility."

It all came across as mawkish and cringe-worthy, but he was only being himself, and his words were as kind as a Vulcan's could be.

Kali gaped at Mahak and absently dropped her arms in shock. "Wow," she breathed out. "Did you just - holy hell, you did!" Her head spun around in excitement. "That was a compliment, wasn't it?!" And here she was just expecting a simple congratulations, but instead given a speech. Her stiff smile turned natural and teasing again. She smacked him lightly on the upper arm. "Aw, you're warming up to me, you big ol' Vulcan softy you!"

"I am incapable of 'warming up' to anyone," Mahak stated bluntly. "However, if a more familiar approach to interactions with my crewmates helps us all work together more efficiently, I would not be averse."

"In any case, I congratulate you on your new position, chief." The unflappable Vulcan said.

"And I assure you, Kali Reyes, I have made no mistake.  You are the highest ranking enlisted person on the ship.  And your eventual promotion to Chief of Boat was on of Captain Brigg's last requests before he took leave.  That and the promotion of Mr. Nevir to XO" Kirok said to the group at large.

After Engineering and Medical arrived, Kirok continue on with his 'speech.'  "Now to explain why we are gathered here instead of the conference room.  The simple answer is that we are at war with member of Section 31" Kirok said.

"But the deeper reason is that I want everyone in the mindset of being at war.  And wars are fought on the Bridge.  Not in conference rooms" the half Vulcan explained.

"As such, I want each of you to be in a state of readiness from this day forwards.  No matter the ships alert status.  Such a mindset may very well save your life and the lives of your crew mates" he added.

Jett had been leaning against the wall, arms crossed over his chest as the congratulations and the chatting died down eventually, a few more managed to squeeze in and get to their places, and all attention returned to the Admiral. Sitting up more as he began speaking, curious eyes turned back to the Vulcan.

Had he heard Kirok correctly? They were at war? As much of a steely demeanor he had, and as much as he should have expected this, he felt his heart sink lower into his chest at those words. War was a very strong word, not to be used lightly. It wouldn't be the first war he'd gotten swept up in. But most of the time he could avoid it, because he was an outsider and had no place in it to begin with. There was no avoiding this.

But almost immediately, he did as ordered. Set in edge, he was half ready to spin aroun to the control panel at that moment if asked. His shoulders tensed, and his eyes flickered briefly to the screen. Although even before he was almost always checking things, scanning the room, taking a couple seconds to observe. Came from years of watching for potential threats, even when you thought you were among good friends.
However, he didn't have anything to say to the Captain - he had no right to speak out of turn. So he remained as silent as ever, merely conveying his attentiveness through eyes and body language.

Kinley Garrison

[Bridge]

Kinley got up to the bridge shortly before Admiral Kirok began the meeting. Fortunately nothing much was being said except the typical pleasantries and shop-talk of her fellow officers. Kinley had been delayed a bit by two of her fellow  crewmen who, after seeing the disaster  in the Kitchens, badgered her incessantly about cleaning it up. She had tried to explain it to them that she really was going to clean up the mess, but they wouldn't have it. In the end, it had taken a few judiciously bribed cookies in order to silence anyone who objected.
Kinley's mind began wandering to that crazy first day she had when she first beamed aboard the Disco. It had been two months since then, and she had already been assigned as an officer. True, there weren't very many scientists on board, but somehow she had managed to earn that much respect within her crew in such a short time.
Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the hush that slowly pervaded the room.
Kirok began the meeting:

Kinley looked at her senior officers and smiled. Tekin and Kali definitely deserved their promotions, even though the shock of being placed in that big a position might be a bit much for Chief Reyes to swallow. "I guess you just got in the big leagues now." Kinley jokingly nudged Kali with a smile.
The sounds of congratulations to the new XO and 2O slowly died as Kirok, with a grim look on his face, began again.

Kinley's mouth went dry as the  full and sudden realization of what the admiral said hit her.  This didn't seem real. Sure, she helped with finding  the enemy ship on her first day, but that was a drop in the park compared to a full-blown war. Looking around, her thoughts racing, she steeled herself, all the while while her heart dropping in her chest like lead.
We're in Starfleet here. Weird is part of the job description.

It would not be the last time she's heard about Captain Briggs. Her spirit dampened a bit even by mentioning his name. He was her first Captain. It still stung.

Kali stiffened, then grew uncharacteristically silent throughout the conference. Section 31.

How did you find me?

You can't hide from me, babydoll.

The rest of Kirok's words sounded like an echo effect the more she delved into her own mind until his speech ended and the sound of consoles beeping and the very air itself sucked her back into the present. "Aye, aye," she murmured, almost as an afterthought.

"And the reason I asked each department to come with two representatives is quite simple.  In the event that a department head should fall, I want the next in line to be fully ready to take that persons place.  In the same fashion, if I should fall, I will look to Tekin to take my place as CO of the Discovery" Kirok said to the group as a whole.

Tekin Nevir

[Bridge]

Nevir had remained silent throughout this whole thing, choosing to let the Captain finish.  As he confirmed that Tekin could take over, the Bajoran nodded.  Welp... now that it was official, he would have to wear red.  Great.

At least it was something he could tell his daughter later on.

But the end of the meeting, he kept his eyes on the two science officer.. neither of which had followed his instructions.  And somehow, he had to choose one of them to lead the smaller science department.  Come to think of it.. did either of them even realize he was their superior?

With the Admiral's final words, it was time for Nevir to speak, in his opinion.

"My promotion does mean that we have a gap in the command structure.  In case some of you have forgotten, I'm the Chief Science Officer... or I was.  We can't afford to find a replacement to come aboard, so I'll be looking over the Science department for a suitable replacement.  I would prefer officers who are able to follow orders." he said, looking to the two science officers on the bridge.

"It is all the more important that we remain alert and cohesive.  Ignorance will mean that you or your friends will not survive.  I don't want to be the hardass, but the truth is that we need everyone at their best, which means my expectations have to be high."

"That also means when this meeting is done, I need to speak with the Science department." he said, shaking his head.

"I think that would be wise, Mr. Nevir.  In fact, I have an assignment for the Science Department.  The Wells ship seems to prefer avoiding Ion Storms.  I would like to see if our Science Department can someone figure out a way to exploit that weakness.  Specifically at times when an Ion Storm may be too far away to offer us any protection" Kirok said.

"In addition, I would like for someone from the Medical Department to be posted on the Bridge at all times.  He or she can obviously move to Sickbay if needed" the half Vulcan said.  Then he turned back to Filitov and looked up the Sec/Tac.

"And after we reach our next destination, we will be adding some fighters to our hanger.  With that addition, we will need to star staffing the TIC.  Any questions?" he asked the group in general.

"The bridge," Kintiss replied. "I need to bring ssssomeone from the department." The reason as to why escaped him. Perhaps it was a large-scale away mission or they were being dropped into a dangerous environment and he might have to co-ordinate his new team. It might be a good excuse to see what they were capable of. He'd taken a few moments to read their files and was impressed by what he saw, particularly in the case of Dr. Cottle.

It didn't take long to reach the Bridge, where Kintiss offered a short apology for tardiness.
