"And couches," Kali added teasingly before taking a sip of her champagne. "Nice plush couches requisitioned all the way from Risa. Maybe get you a pretty yeoman to greet people in-"

Kali nearly choked on her champagne when their new captain made his way for them. She didn't think she'd be entertaining Discovery's new brass tonight given the circumstances. There was still a stack of PADDs waiting in her quarters with transfers enough.

She cleared her throat and tried not to look too inebriated. "Admiral. New person." Okay, so maybe she wasn't very eloquent tonight.

[Bajor - Reception]

"Ms. Reyes.  It is agreeable to meet you" Kirok replied.  Thankfully she was the only Enlisted person on the ship.  So easy to identify.  He offered her a slight, but respectful bow.

[Bajor]

As the two crewmen socialized and made fun of him- at his expense, of course, He simply sat back and watched. They seemed like respectable enough people, but the idea of putting his sickbay into a social area was absolutely unacceptable. This was an Akira class, smaller than even an old Excelsior class. Space was a premium, although admittedly not as much as a Nova class. His sickbay was fine, just the way it was, thankyouverymuch.

He saw the Captain work their way. He wasn't impressed. A chest full of medals, badges, and emblems, and a little fancy Admiral rank insignia. Klabax still didn't care. He didn't stand to attention, or even stand. By now the new Captain should have heard of Klabax. His transfer history a mile long and a record full of reprimands, NJP's, and informal complaints. NOBODY wanted him on their ship- but nobody could find a reason to kick him out of starfleet. He was a fine doctor, and part of the Denobulan medical exchange- which granted him enough leeway to not get shown the airlock.

"Admiral." he said when the man came near, at least giving him some "oh. You. You're here." reaction, still flipping through a PADD.

[Bajor - Reception]

"Yes, I am here" Kirok replied with at raised left eyebrow.  "You must be Dr. Cottle, correct?  Do you have your medical tri-corder handy?" he asked curiously.

Quote from: Tekin Nevir on November 02, 2016, 06:24:35 PM

Nevir nodded.  He didn't fully understand exactly what enemies she was referring to, but if the last reports from the Phoenix were any indication, then the very people who saved Bajor from the Cardassians and the Dominion were not as pure as they acted.  This... "Section 31" thing was a direct threat to his home and people, and in his opinion, the entire Federation.  Perhaps there was once a time where their malicious operations were necessary, but the actions he has heard rumors about demonstrated that they were acting as an old beast struggling to remain alive.

"The Prophets guide all down the path, Kai." he said in response, nodding his head in acceptance.  There was a peculiar sense of destiny he was feeling, and he glanced to the others in his vicinity.

"She's a fine ship with a fine crew, I've spent the better part of a year with them so far.  Captain Briggs was one of the best; his sudden departure hit us hard.  But if Admiral Kirok is half as good as the reports suggest, then I believe the Discovery is in the right hands.  For now we've been more on escorts and light exploration, but she is ready for whatever awaits." he replied, doing his best to answer the question.

[Bajor - Reception - NPC Kai]

"Yes, child" the Kai relied, nodding her head in agreement.  "Your ship sounds quite reliable.  But I was hoping you might introduce me to some of your crewmates" she added.

It seemed the new Admiral had entered the picture, in which he turned around to greet him, "Admiral." His eyes darted from the new person, to the Kai and then to the Admiral again before settling on Kali.

He tried not to smirk at the face that she was trying rather hard not to see inebriated.

At least she was trying to seem responsible.

Is someone in need of treatment?" he asked, in a questioning tone that would put the Mk-1 EMH on a run for it's money. If there was a medical emergency to deal with... that could be most intriguing.

Nevir turned red for a moment, and then nodded.  "Very well... I can introduce those I know of... and perhaps its best we start with what is here.  This is Lieutenant Commander Kachina Filitov, our Chief Flight Control Officer.  One of the best pilots in Starfleet." he said, gesturing to the Russian near him.

When Nevir introduced her, Katcha nodded her head at the Kai again.

"I am pleased to meet you." She replied. "I apologise if I do not use the correct terminology as I am not sure how I should address you." She added, thinking it would be better to explain her ignorance rather than possible cause an offence. She had witnessed this several times when people unfamiliar with the protocol and inadvertently caused offence to the Bishops of the Russian Church. She hoped the Kai would be more forgiving.

"That is high praise indeed, Tekin Nevir" the Kai said the Second Officer before she turned her full attention to the pilot.  "You were on Tarna.  Bless you child.  You may call me Kai" the woman said warmly.

"May I greet you in the traditional Bajor manner" she said.   "If Tekin has not instructed you, I will simply place my hand on your ear" she said.  Then she looked from Kachina to Tekin and then back again.

"Don't worry Admiral," he started, looking at a PADD. "I have you scheduled for 0345 in two days time for your physical. I made sure not to interrupt any... meetings you may have. You'll find your schedule updated to reflect that when we return to the ship." he said. He hadn't intentionally put the appointment in the middle of the night- but he didn't care that it had fallen there. He was a Denobulan. Unlike his counterparts, he didn't need sleep except for a few hours a year.

He turned to see the direction indicated. He nodded. "I'll go check on her." he said, and, without waiting for a dismissal, left.

Her smile faltered. "Base...?"

Memories she'd rather not dig up in a million lifetimes started to gnaw at her consciousness. Not good enough, too unpredictable, hand her off to a mental professional on Vulcan. Dad said no. She suffered.

By the time she could blink herself back to the present, her fingers had gone white over the champagne glass and a crack was starting to appear along where her thumb rested.

She quickly covered it up and swallowed hard. "Meditation makes me nauseous." It was amazing how leveled her words were when her own stomach and mind was a stewing mess of something that had nothing to do with the alcohol. "Man I need a drink. Excuse me."

Instead of making a beeline for the waiter, she diverted quickly for someplace that had an open balcony before she threw up all over her new Captain's shoes.

Klabax knocked on the wall a few feet away from the crewman. "Are you alright?" he asked her, the barest flicker of concern on his face before it was gone again. He had his tricorder in his pocket again, not forcing medical help on her but offering it if she needed it.

Balcony found, mission completed. Although the part where she evacuated all the nausea over the railing just didn't happen, so she was left half out and using the shrubbery down below to refocus her misplaced balance. "Blegh..." was her response to the doc. She took a heap full of cool Bajoran air. "Too much Cardassian Sunrises..."

It was a lie, but it was one she needed to believe in. The thought of going back to erratic emotional temper tantrums and incomprehensible equations was making her space sick again.

He hoped that his Scottish accent was not playing up too strongly, for it even baffled the humans on board the Disco.

The Kai smiled and then stepped forward.  With her left hand she reached up and gently grabbed Kachina's right ear.  The finger wrapped around the lower lobe and the thumb pressed into the upper lobe.

Her hand was of course warm on Kachina's ear.  But there was something familiar about the touch.  Almost as if Kachina's grandmother was greeting her.

"Blessings to you, chosen child of Bajoar.  May the Prophets guide you.  May your path be unhindered" she said in slight above a whisper.
