S11 - Mission 6: Arch Enemies

[Bajor - Reception]

With the Discovery docked at Deep Space 9, the crew had been invited to a small reception on Bajor.  The current crew needed to meet their temporary Commanding Officer, Admiral Kirok, and a few of the surviving members of the Phoenix crew.  The handful that had survived the recent destruction of their ship at the hands of some time traveling Section 31 members.

The Bajor government had thoroughly analyzed the contaminated dirt Kirok had brought back from Tarna.  They too had concluded that the Cardassians could not have been involved with the massacre of the Bajoran colonist there.  And now firmly believed that members of Section 31 had perpetrated the crime.

As such, the Bajoran government has prepared a lavish reception in celebration of this truth finally coming to light.   So, in addition to the crew, several members of Bajoran government and the Kai were in attendance.  In addition, the Cardassian Ambassador was also there with a small delegate of Cardassian dignitaries.

"This is a great day for Bajor and Cardassia" the Bajoran Kai said for a platform.  "The carnage at Tarna was wrongly placed at the hands of Cardassians.  But now, thanks to our friends in Starfleet, we know that that was not true.  May we all move forward in peace and harmony.  Blessings to all" she said to conclude her speech.

Bajor - Reception

Katcha, wearing her dress uniform, stood to one side and listened to the speeches and toasts. She ordinarily hated receptions like this, but as her Father often said. 'The higher your rank, the more you have to attend pointless parties.' She generally agreed with him but on this occasion, she felt some pride on being part of the reason the reception was being held. She was back on the Disco with the survivors of the Phoenix's crew. A least she was familiar with the flight systems but she would probably not get any promotions any time soon as the Disco had a full line up of command staff and unless there were promotions, there would b no vacancies any time soon. She took a sip from the glass of fruit juice in her hand as she wandered around the room. Having never been to Bajor before, she was hoping to get some time to look around. But she suspected that there would be no rest for them.

[Bajor - Reception]

No dresses for the poor Operations Chief. In her dress golds, Kali sipped some kind of fruity, but distinctly alcoholic champagne as Bajor and Cardassia came together for something or the other.

She had like four glasses this eve. It was hard to get the ball rolling for her when that happened. Crewman Denton stuck at her side - being one of the new recruits to the Operations department - and was trying to unsuccessfully pry the glass away from her fingers.

There was another reason why she wanted to get blackout drunk. It was Grey and his subsequent drop off the face of the galaxy. There was no pleasure planet for a hardy retiree like him, only more work; clandestine work. "I'll contact you eventually." It really pissed her off when he did that.

Then Captain Briggs - the details of his sudden resignation alarmed her if not the crew. Then Bixox followed for a transfer off-ship. What she told Len earlier on was as true then as it was now; why form a family with the crew if they were all going to buzz off and leave?

Maybe, just maybe, that was why she was drinking so much and zoning out of the speech. She raised up her glass in conclusion along everyone else while she imagined the crawl into a Jeffery tube to sleep off the impending hangover in time for third shift. It sounded mighty appealing.

[Bajor - Reception]

"Now I would ask for a moment of silence to remember those who were lost in this quest for truth" the Kai added.  She bowed her head.  Names on a monitor stared passing up - as if toward the stars.

As soon as the Kai finished the ceremony the Cardassian Ambassado and the Bajoran First Minister approached Kirok.  They not only arrived at the same time.  But together.

"We can't thank you and your crew enough for bringing the truth to light about Tarna" the Cardassian Ambassador said.  "If we had known that Section 31 was responsible for those deaths from the get go, we could have possibly avoided the war all together.  We are eternally indebted to you" he added.

"Please, we were only doing our jobs.  What was right.  We do not need any special consecrations" Kirok attempted to protest.

"That is untrue Admiral.  What you did was unite two groups of people who at one time hated each other.  And you have put your self in the danger until every last member of Section 31 is exposed and brought to justice if necessary" the Bajoran First Minister added.

"So, instead of being at the end chapter in our lives.  You seem to have created a new beginning of a book.  One with an uncertain ending" the Cardassian said.

"So, we wish to help you.  In some small way at least.  Our Kai will tell you more" the Bajoran said.  "She is waiting for you behind stage" she added with a smile.

[Bajor-Reception]

Leela sat in the back of the room fidgeting, trying to create some level of comfort in this terrible uniform that the Captain had forced her to wear. Ever since the departure of Captain Briggs, things haven't seemed quite right. There was one positive in all of this; Kirok was at least part Vulcan. And if there was one species Leela understood it was Vulcan. Thank you Juval. She thought as she sipped on a glass of spring wine. She seceded to keep to herself. Juval and Preta were far better suited for these situations. She figured she would wait and see if anyone struck up a conversation with her.

[Bajor- Reception]

Klabax sat toward the back, looking stuffy and uncomfortable in his dress uniform. He was still grumpy, as usual. With the combination of the USS Phoenix's crew, the crew was very new. He had with him a PADD with all of the new crew members, and groaned to himself. A lot of them, in fact almost all of them, were well past due for their physicals. He began scheduling them, not really taking any time to see if they were working during those times. They'd be in his medbay and taking their physicals. He got a note back from one of the crewmen a few minutes later.

With all due respect, Sir, you are the reason that everybody hates sickbay.

He didn't let it bother him. With all this going on, he had stopped caring a while ago. In fact, he couldn't have cared less. He remained sitting, working and generally ignoring the Cardassians, and resisting the urge to launch himself at them and kill them- pent up anger from the Dominion war. He was quite sick of spoonheads. Not necessarily to the degree of the Bajorans, but quite high up there.

Denton was turning into stuffy, boring mess of an inferior. She handed her empty glass to him, urged him to network, and was glad he quickly buzzed off to rub elbows with some of the delegates. Two minutes later, things got even more boring and she quickly decided that pestering the doctor all by his lonesome would be more entertaining with each step.

Kali slid into an open seat and into the familiarity of her fellow Discovery crew.

"Doctor," she greeted. "I daresay this is the most social I've ever seen you - what with the sitting and the glaring. We'll make a socialite out of you yet!"

"I would be happy to meet with your Kai" Kirok replied.  "Just give me a moment to let one of my officers know that I will be out of site for a few minutes.  They are all a bit on high alert since the incident at Tarna, I'm sure you understand" the half Vulcan added.

While the Bajoran and Cardassian nodded, Kirok scanned the group.  He had hoped to see Ezac in attendance, but understood the Breen's need for solitude over socializing.  He was likely already on the Discovery, looking over the inventory of torpedoes.

Finally his eyes landed on Filitov.  She had proved her loyalty to him and assumed he could trust her to watch his back as he ventured away from the public eye.  "Ms. Filitov, a word please" he said as he moved toward the exit.

Katcha nodded, immediately getting the Admiral's point. While they might be in a relatively safe environment, their actions had damaged a powerful group and to take precautions was only sensible.

"Of course Admiral." She replied. Immediately checking that she still had the concealed blade at her waist and the type 1 phaser in her right sleeve. Once she was satisfied that they were both still present and concealed, she took up position outside the door to make sure that the Kai and the Admiral were not disturbed.

Klabax had just finished acknowledging another attempt to evade sickbay- unsuccessfully. He tried to say he had a romantic date planned, which was far from true. The closest thing this man had to a date was his pet guinea pig. He advised the man to cancel, lest Klabax decide to make a house call in the middle of the time block. That should provide some motivation.

He looked up as Reyes slid down next to him. He nodded to the Petty Officer. She was a good crewman, and a good Operations chief. He'd come to personally regard her as someone who knew what she was doing. Rank didn't matter, she got the job done well.

"Petty Officer." he said, nodding to her. "Indeed?" he asked. "I find that to be quite low on the tree of things that will pass. You're welcome to try, however." he said, his trademark bastardy and grumpy attitude showing. All in all, a standard day.

"You have a very sad tree," Kali said cheekily. "And I bet you'd have more warm biobeds if you just smiled every once in a while - and this is me totally not projecting here." She flashed a smile at a Cardassian dignitary that passed by. He greeted her with a reciprocating, if not flirtatious one back. "See?"

Bajor Reception - Behind the Stage Room

Kirok offered Filitov a bow.  It was meant to convey thanks without saying so.  Then after a tug down on is shirt, he exited the room and closed the door behind him.

The Kai was waiting for him.  She was still dressed in her formal robe.  And she was alone.

"I am honored that you have chosen to meet with me, Admiral.  I'm sure you are quite busy and eager to return to space.  But I wanted to tell you that I will be forever grateful for what have done for our people" she said.

Kirok raised a hand to wave off, but the woman continued.

"Please, my parents were from Tarna.  They send me away just before the attack.  So I am personally invested in your success in bringing these people to justice.  Possibly even more that you are" she added.

"So, I made arrangement for you to share some time with one of our Obs.  The Obs of Wisdom in fact.  In hopes that it might give you some insights that may aid you and your crew in the months to come" she said.

"Off worlders are rarely given such an opportunity.  But I think it is fitting given the circumstances.  Would you please just take a moment with it" she said as she stepped aside and revealed the Orb behind her.

Reception - Bajor

As the door closed, Katchas senses immediately went on full alert. Her eyes swept the room and she kept her ears open. It reminded her of her time with the security service, she had often been bodyguard, formal or not to several high powered officials. Thee was nothing untoward, but she kept alert in any case.
