Proof yourself (T'Prina)
« on: March 17, 2019, 06:11:34 pm »
"Time to proof yourself, newbie."
A padd hit the desk in front of him and made Fells look up, who had been studying the layout and details of the Starbase.

"What's this?" He asked and picked up the device.
"Theft....have a look. It's the science department." His colleague tapped on his screen to zoom in on the map.

Fells read the brief report and got up assuming he was alone on the case.

Now that he was familiar with the plan, he found his way around more easily.

Once he reached the science department he introduced himself as part of the security Departement. "My name is Petty Officer Halgerdur. Who called my department? I need to speak to her...T'Prina?"
He assumed it was a female judging by the name.

[Science Laboratory 1]

T'Prina looked up from her console, with a mild irritation at the interruption. It seemed Station Security had finally decided to send someone to investigate the report she'd made. Although it still seemed they were not taking the matter seriously. She stood up and walked over to the man, PADD in hand.

"That would be me. I am Lieutenant T'Prina. I assume you are here in regards to the report I filed with the Security Office. If you do not mind, I would rather discuss this matter in private. Please step into my office." She spoke succinctly, each word exactingly precise.

The Vulcan motioned for the Petty Officer to follow her, and made her way to a small office located off to the side of the lab. She sat down at the desk, PADD in front of her and waited for Halgerdur to join her. The man was tall and built athletically, no doubt he could handle the physical demands of a job in Security. However, more important to her, was how well and quickly he could follow directions, and if his mind could handle an investigative matter. It would be an annoyance if they had sent her someone who was all brawn and no brain.

He looked up when the science officer approached him.She looked like a no-nonsense kind of person and the way she spoke to him made it clear that she felt like she was the one in charge.

"Petty Officer Halgerdur." He introduced himself to her and then nodded.
"Of course."
On the way to her office he had a good look around taking in the set up of the place as well as the people working here.

Her office was small and lacked a personal touch- at least from where he stood. Fells figured that science people were very focused on science and less on personal things but that could be a completely wrong assumption.

He closed the door behind him and asked.
"I don't have any details on the theft, so it would be great if you could fill me in on what has been taken, from where and when. Also, who had access to this facility at the time."

T'Prina raised a single swooped eye brow, and slid the PADD across the desk. "Please have a seat, Petty Officer Halgerdur. I will admit I am not surprised by your lack of knowledge regarding this situation. I do not believe these thefts are being taken seriously by Security. The PADD contains my copy of the detailed report I gave. However, I will outline it for you."

The Vulcan folded her thin hands on the desk in front of her, and looked much like a teacher about to begin a lesson. "As I am sure you are aware, the station is home to many Ferengi given our close location to Ferenginar. Items on the starbase, have a tendency to go missing and find their way into Ferengi shops. If it were only a few, semi valuable items, I would have drawn a similar conclusion. Writing these particular thefts off, would be a grave mistake in my opinion."

She leaned forward, and scrolled through the data on the PADD to a list of stolen items, and dates that they had been noted missing. "As you can see, not much on this list would be considered very valuable, and this is not a high security area. I do not think many of your superiors have a strong grasp of chemistry however. While unusual, this grouping of chemical solvents can produce a very strong hallucinogenic substance. In the wrong amount though, it could be lethal. The missing equipment, used correctly is for creating hyposprays. I believe you can follow my conclusion."

Why nobody had taken her report seriously was beyond him but he was not familiar with the work load or standards on the base. Maybe some things were simply tolerated due to a lack of officers. After all he had been transfered because of it and he wasn't the only one.
"I'm sorry, I know we're understaffed....I've just been transfered here. Let me have a look."

He took in her notes and listened carefully, then wrinkled his brow.
"So you think someone is going to use this to kill someone?"
That was, of course, a serious problem.
"How many people are we talking about? How big is the amount and power? A single person or a whole room?"
They could soon be encountering a huge problem.
"But tell me one thing? Why go to the trouble? There are tons of weapons and illegal substances for sale on the black market here. What makes this so special? Is it untracable?"

T'Prina continued to lean forward in her chair and folded her hands primly on the nearly barren desktop. Her head tilted slightly to the side, and her braided hair fell over her shoulder.

"To put it plainly, whoever has these chemicals can make enough hallucinogenic drugs to dose the entire station. If we have only one death, that would be what you would call, lucky. It is entirely probable that they make some sort of mistake and the resulting explosion would take out several decks. I do not know the reasoning behind most of the illogical decisions people make. I could not begin to guess what they are planning, only possible conclusions from the known facts."

She reached over for the PADD again, and opened a list of names she'd compiled when it seemed likely the security office wouldn't look into her report.
"I have a list here, of suspicious people I have noted in the computer's logs from around the time the solvents and equipment went missing."

Things got progressively worse and really made Fells wonder why nobody had looked into this.
First they were hallucenogenics, then a murder weapon and finally a means of destroying the Station.
"They're explosive? Holy crap!" He exclaimed with raised brows.
"And noone has taken this serious? We could be looking at a desaster any minute. Can we trace the chemicals with scanners? Or would they need special equipment, that we could find them by?"

He took the PADD from her and synced it with his own.
"You are really well prepared, mam. This would have been my next question. Any camera feeds here?"
He browsed through the names but none of them seemed familiar.
"I'll run these through the system, have a look if anyone has an irregular file." 'like me' he thought to himself. It was the strangest thing that Fells of all people had been assigned to security. But oh well, he was and he did a pretty darn good job.

"Going back some time well before you were stationed here, there was a security chief that I did not see eye to eye with. Since then I have not been in good standing with Station security. I can only assume that is why my report was disregarded."

T'Prina looked down at her hands, deep in thought. This was not the time to dwell on the past, however. The officer had more questions that required answers.

"The chemicals can be scanned for, however several labs on this level alone use them, there are civilian laboratories located on other decks as well. It will be difficult to discern legitimate uses from illegal uses. Unfortunately, the video surveillance recordings have all been damaged irreparably. Whoever was behind this, knew what they were doing. They might have some connections with security or operations even, it seems they have knowledge of Starfleet systems."

She looked up at him, a small frown showing in the delicate lines between her eyebrows.

"This will not be an easy task. I am certain we will need more help and resources to find the perpetrators."

[Science Lab 1 - Office]

Understanding the interpersonal relationships, that had an impact on his work, was essential for Fells, so he appreciated the insight. With a nod he confirmed that he understood.

That the ingredients were used in so many labs made things a lot more difficult.
"That makes things complicated. Why would they steal everything from this lab if they could easily target smaller ones, or a few different ones without so much security and fly under the radar. It actually does sound like they had some cover from someone, which made them feel save enough here. Then add in that noone reacted to your enquiries so far....."

He made a face and pulled in his head in a mock gesture.

"So you're implying that someone in my department is corrupt?"
He raised his brows at that wild accusation. But instead of giving her a lecture and starting to rant he actually considered the idea.

"I'm new here. I have no idea who could be involved or at least where they'd get the intel about your security system. Unfortunately I'm the only 'resource' you're going to get. So why don't you show me to your security controls, so I can have a look at them."

He offered her a friendly smile at the end of his requests in hopes of making her feel like he was actually trying to help.
