Fells Halgerdur

USS Challenger- crewquarters

The orders came as a huge surprise and not necessarily a pleasant one.
"Notice of transfer" Fells read and sat down without continuing to read.
Why would he be transfered after such a short time? Did he do such a bad job? Or had his past caught up to him? But what about the recent promotion? Something didn't add up.
Slightly disgruntled Fells scrolled further down and continued reading. There was no specific reason just that there had been some personell changes and he was being transfered to a starbase.
"Sh*t." He muttered. He had always enjoyed serving on a ship, exploring space, venturing to new unknown planets.
A base was the last place he wanted to be stationed on.
"Which one?" He scrolled a little further, a deep frown on his face.
'COLUMBUS'
Suddenly he had to smile.
Lea's residence. Wow, that was quite unexpected and suddenly the transfer didn't seem quite so bad anymore.

STARBASE COLUMBUS

A few days later a shuttle had taken him and a few other crew members, who had received transfer slips, to the starbase.
Fells became a little excited when he saw it in the distance. It was still a small dot but soon became bigger until he could see its magnitude.
He wanted to go and tell Lea the news, whom he hadn't informed yet, but he decided against it. Instead he made his way to his new boss. First impressions were important and the fact that Judy was also based on Columbus might not work in his favor. He'd better get his first impression in before she knew he was back and could warn his new superior.

Even with his padd it took a while until he located her.
He straightened out his uniform and offered the lady (perhaps her assistant) a smile.
"I'm here to see Captain Naira."
After a moment of waiting he was shown to the right door, which slid aside and allowed him to step inside the office of the bases commanding officer. Her hair was dark like that of many humans but her green skin gave away her origin.
He stood up straight, chest out.
"I'm Petty Officer Halgerdur. I've received PCS orders from the USS Challenger to your starbase."

Naira

[CO's Office]

Naira was sitting at her desk, reading through a report on a PADD when the man came into her office. Her eyes flicked up over the top of the device as she listened to him speak. Putting the PADD down, she pushed her chair back from the desk, stood up and walked around the desk.

She came to stand before him and offered a hand for him to shake.

"Welcome to Columbus, Petty Officer, before you get started, do you have any questions?"

Fells Halgerdur

Fells didn't expect her to get up because she was a very busy person, considering her position. Yet she greeted him with the traditional human handshake, which was nice because it wasn't that common among other species.

"Thank you, Captain. I'm mostly wondering about my assignment here. What exactly will my job be? I'm assuming that I will still be assigned to security?"
He gave her a moment to process his questions. In reality he wanted as many details as he could get to avoid misunderstandings and know what to do.

"Oh, and I'd like to know whether you or anyone else has requested my presence here, if you can share that kind of information."

Naira

Naira leaned back against the desk as she took on a more relaxed gesture.

"Yes, Petty Officer, you are still assigned to security. I understand that you may have questions, working on a space station, especially one like Columbus, is far different than taking an assignment on a ship. Unlike the Challenger, you won't be surrounded by other Starfleet officers and crewmen. here on Columbus, Starfleet only makes up a small percentage of the population. We are greatly outnumbered by civilians and with it, we must be ready and able to handle all issues that come with civilians."

She took a brief moment to take a quick breath and focus her thoughts.

"We have families, children, the sick and the elderly onboard. We have people who drink too much on the promenade and start fist fights over petty arguments. We have seedy gambling dens. We have pickpockets and those looking to steal from shops. We have those who try to smuggle in illegal substances and we have real emergencies where the untrained panic."

"Working security here doesn't just mean carrying around a phaser and protecting your ship from hostile invasion or keeping an eye on your teammates while on some away mission, it means keeping the peace." On second thought she added, "and dealing with a lot of drunks."

As for his second question, as to if someone had requested his presence on the station, she had to think. "I can check your file, but to my knowledge you were simply reassigned here. I am always requesting good crewmen and I believe your former captain saw potential."

His initial inhibitons about not being part of a ships crew anymore only became truer when she talked about drunks and those sort of people. Fells knew the Starbase from his brief time here before he got assigned to the challenger and there were really a lot of drunks, pub brawls, petty theft...very un-exciting compared to venturing to unknown stars.

He had no choice though.
And he was slightly pleased that she called him a 'good crewman'. It was nice that someone had a good impression of him for a change. Even if the impression wouldn't last forever.

"Very well, mam. I'll do my best to fulfill my duties here to your satisfaction. I take my job very serious."
The last line was directed at himself because it hadn't always been that way. But he was a changed man  now, mostly....
"Who do I report to?"
His last superior was quite unique so Fells was wondering who his new boss would be.

Naira

"Technically, the head of your department would be Lieutenant Commander Grond. I don't know if you've worked with many Tellarites, he can be a bit...," she struggled for a moment to find the perfect word to describe the man. "Creative." That was certainly one way to put it. Like many of his people, the lieutenant commander could be seen as being a bit harsh at times with his words. He had received more than a few complaints for the way he chose to speak to those working under him, but for him it was more a way of toughening up his people rather than a personal insult.

"I have however asked that Lieutenant T'Rell work with you for now. She is quite familiar with protocol and how to handle a rowdy situation on the promenade. If you have any specific questions about your duties, I'm sure she'll be much better equipped at answering them than I am."

"I don't have a lot of experience with Tellarites but the ones I've met weren't very pleasant." Was that something he should keep to himself?
"I'm sure I'll get along with Commander Grond, though."

"Do I start right away or is there a certain protocol to follow on a Starbase? I've only ever worked on ships so far."
He confessed but didn't go into further detail. His first assignment ended badly, so he'd rather not mention it and the second one would bein his transfer record.
