Family Time (Fells & Lea)

"Hey, I'm here." He complained about theur conversation.
"Look, Lea is the best thing that could possibly happen to me. She stands bt me, she tells me what she thinks and lets me be part of her and her daughters life and most of all, ahe doesn't jydge. I've decided that she's the one for me and now that things are getting serious, you should know."

His father agreed. "I've missed you and against all odds was hoping you'd turn your life around. You know I'm sceptical but this looks good."

One thing his mother still wanted to know was. "Are you from Earth, Lea?"

Still looking at her beloved, Lea didn't blame him for the complaint, besides how could she forget that he was present, but sharing this with his parents had been a good experience. It was nice to see their love and concern for him and when he then continued, she smiled, letting his words sink in. Lea knew that he loved her but hearing it, gave her a warm feeling and realised just how lucky she was to have him in her life.

" I could say the same about you" she said quietly, before his Father responded.

Yet she could understand his father's scepticism, as his Mother then asked if she was from Earth. " I'm from Betazed, originally, however Columbus has been my home for almost two and a half years".

"Oh, you're not human?" They looked a little surprised because Lea looked just like the humans they knew.
"No, ma. There are so many species out here...what do you expect?" Fells complained.
"I just don't know anything about Betazed." The Icelandic woman defended herself.
"She's like a better human...better senses." Her husband now explained. "I've met a man from Betazed once. He was very empathetic...."

"That's lovely. I wish we could meet." Fells mother smiled genuinely.
"At least when the baby is born. Will you come visit?"

The look of surprise on Fells's parents after she had revealed where she was from, was one that Lea often got, but at the same time, didn't take offence. Besides Lea was happy enough to answer any questions they might have as Fells spoke first and his mother admitted that she didn't know anything.

However his Dad got it pretty spot on as he explained Betazoids to his wife and his mother than asked if they would visit once the baby was born. Meeting his parents in person would be lovely and yes it would take some time to reach Earth but Lea thought it would be worth it.

" I would love for us to meet and tell you more about Betazed, it would take some organising with the distance between us and Earth, but I can't see why we couldn't come visit, once the baby is born or for you both to come here".

"It's difficult to do but it would be great. I'd love for our son to be born on Earth. That way he'll also get Earth citizenship."
To Fells Earth was still home and the place to be...even though he was happy on a space station a planet was safer.
"There's something we should talk about." He had turned to Lea to get her attention. There had been lots of attacks and danger on the station. Not the best place for a family.
"Fells....I have one request." His father spoke up.
"No matter what happens, please stay in touch. It felt like we lost our son."
His mom had moved closer to his father.
"What he's trying to say is that we love you. Always have even though we don't always get you."
Fells bit his lip, briefly looked at Lea and then nodded.
" Yes, I will.....thank you. I love you, too."

The thought of giving birth on Earth hadn't occurred to Lea, although hearing the way, Fells spoke about it and why, was definitely something to consider. " If its possible then yes our son can be born on Earth" she replied, understanding how important it was to him.

Still it was a long way off yet as Fells mentioned that there was something that they should talk about. Curious as to what it could be, before his parents spoke to him about how much they loved him and how they wanted him to stay in touch.

It was very moving to hear and see, especially as he looked at her briefly before responding.

" We both will and I look forward to speaking to you again".

As the call was coming to an end Fells started to feel the weight of his actions. It wasn't the first time that his past came to bite him in the ass. But this time it came in a different form. Fells had somehow made his peace with being a greedy scumbag because he felt he was on a better way now. What he didn't consider was the pain and hurt and bad looks his loved ones had to endure.

He considered asking Lea to leave before he talked to his parents more but then he understood how stupid that would be. She was the one person who understood and deserved to know it all.

With his gaze fixed at his father and mother he said what was long over due.
"I deeply regret what I have done. Not only because of the people who were hurt but also because of you and the burden I put on you. Please forgive me."

For a moment his mother was speechless, so it was his father who answered. "There is no need to forgive you. You made a bad decision and you paid for it....so did we, but I get the feeling you've understood what you've done wrong and will not make that mistake again."
"Never."Was Fells truthful answer.

"Stay in touch." His mom once again said and Fells nodded before he ended the call with a 'I love you.'

Then silence fell and his heart became heavy with the guilt he felt.

The remaining aspects of the call were heartfelt and emotional which left Lea thinking that she was glad to be a part of it. Hearing how his parents felt and Fells's admission was something she would never forget as no doubt both sides had gained something from it.

Lea was glad that they had spoken to his parents and once the call was over, she looked at her beloved.

" I'm glad that we got to speak to them and I'm so proud of you" she said as she leaned in for a kiss.

Seeing is parents after such a long time had provoked all sorts of feelings, that overwhelmed him now. He was caught somewhere between joy, homesickness, guilt and sorrow.

Leas words were as upbeat and loving as they always were but Fells feared that he might bring the same kind of sorrow upon her and their unborn child.
So a remark left his lips way too quick.
"Don't be."

He got up and walked away, just to stop himself in his tracks. His usual self loathing was taking over but Lea didn't deserve it. Wasn't that exactly what he was trying to protect her from?

He stopped and turned to face her again.
"That...." He made a motion to the computer. "....I...er...." Damn, he didn't want to spell it out.

The response she got from Fells was one that she recognised, especially when he got up and walked away, before he stopped and motioned towards the computer. The words that followed only made her feel not only concerned but also glean some understanding how the call had made her boyfriend feel.

" I know Babe, I understand that speaking to them wasn't easy but I meant what I said about being proud of you for contacting them and I love you for it, as this way our son and Ari will know your side of the family".

Being who she was, Lea then got up and went over to him, kissing him in the process.

He didn't deserve the hug but a slap. No matter how much time Fells spent alone fighting for survival, he would never make up for taking the bribe that eventually lead to several people loosing their lives.

"You should hate me. No matter how hard I try to make better choices now, what I did three years ago cost several people their lives. I cannot make that undone."

Why did she even love him when she knew that he had been such a greedy bastard. He might have pulled that trigger himself just as well.

The reason as to what was truly bothering him, soon became clear and not just from the emotions that were emanating from him. " I know you can't undo the past, Babe and you have tried hard since we met a year ago .....

Lea paused for a moment, wanting to remain close and be reassuring. " But I don't hate you, I never have because I see how you live with that guilt and how you strive not to be that same person, I love you and I can't wait for our lives to continue with our baby and Ari".

Lea would never hate him, not even if he did something bad to her. She was just not the person to hate.
"You don't even hate your ex, do you?" And that man really deserved to be hated by her for what he had done.

Fells expression was sad and lost. For now he was caught in the moment of the call, when he faced his parents for the first time after three years of absence. That was another problem. He could have contacted them a year ago and every day after.
But he had been a self absorbed coward.

"Lea....I don't want to drag you down but I need a while to deal with this....please."
He loved Lea with all his heart and also what they had but right now he wanted to be alone.

Of course he had to bring up Matthias but at the same time, Lea knew that the man she loved was hurting. Still how could she answer him without admitting that she had dealt with the hate she felt about what he had done to her.

" You're nothing like him and I've learnt to deal with how I felt about what he did" she replied, not wanting this to turn into an argument.

But then she saw his expression and realised it was simply Fells dealing with the aftermath of the call and everything that had been said. So when he then spoke again, she had no problem with giving him some space.

" I know and I'll be right outside when you're ready".

With that Lea then leaned in for one more kiss, then left for the living room, determined to remain strong for the both of them.

Fells let her kiss her but he didn't kiss her back. Instead he waited for her to leave. It made him angry that Lea knew how to deal with her feelings but he still didn't.
Maybe it was easier because she had been the one who had received the wrong, not done it.

The bedroom wouldn't do, though.
So Fells grabbed a hoodie and walked straight through the living room to the door.
"I'll be back when I'm done."
It might take a bit....maybe even a day. He needed to walk it off or something.

So he marched from the apartment to the turbo lift and down to the promenade.
The further he walked, the more pissed off he got with himself.
