Fells Halgerdur

[sick bay]

The only one who was worth all the damn trouble and justified the transgressions was Hawke. Commander Hawke to be precise, who had been stabbed and almost killed 3 days ago.
Fells had gotten away with a slap on the wrist but he needed to smarten up and go about things in a different way.

Selfless as he was, he figured he'd pay Hawke a visit and hope that he'd pull some strings and throw in a good word for him.

He also liked the guy a great deal, which was why he had been so mad at his attacker in the first place. So a visit was in order.

At first the medical staff didn't want to let him near the commander because he wasn't a close family member and whatnot.

He finally convinced them to let him have a short visit.

"Commander Hawke, you have a visitor. It's a security officer and he says he needs to speak to you."

The nurse made way and let Fells enter the room. He was not in uniform tonight because he was off duty but he looked pretty darn tired.

Fells immediately spotted Hawke on his biobed with the monitors blinking on the side.
"Commander, good to see you alive." He pulled a rolling doctors chair up and sat down next to him.

Boooring James though.  The same thought came in his mind time and time again.  He felt the pain from the surgery and the complications of his stab wound.  He knew that he was still weak, but he felt worthless in his current state.  A part of him was frustrated he should be out there helping with security and showing people he was not scared that terrorism won't intimidate him.  But he was stuck in the bed.

His boredom was eliminated when he heard one of the nurses.

James nodded and said "Of Course let him in".  Hawke was actually looking forward to his first visitor.  Something else to do.  He quickly tried to sit in the bio bed.  However, the pain made the him slowly.  Using the headred as the back of his makeshift chair.  James wondered how long it would be until he got yelled by a nurse or a doctor.

James observed Fell sitting on the chair.  He looked at the man and smiled "Thank you for visiting.  And for right now, I am merely James.  I am not a much a Commander who can barely stand up.  Thanks for coming and shaving.  You almost look like an officer. .  James finished his statement with a smile as he joked around that he wanted to be an officer.

"No problem." The man, who had almost whooped his as* a few months ago now looked like a mere shadow of himself. He even had troubles sitting up in bed but Fells could relate almost too well.
Before he had rejoined Starfleet he had caught some alien bug and was probably worse off for a while. He hated being that weak and he could see it written all over James' face.

The man was still able to make jokes about Fells clean shaven face.
"Well, I'm not really officer material, sir." Fells remarked and ran a hand over his face. He was not used to having no facial hair. It felt naked and weird to him.
And it was true....his wrap sheet basically screamed 'do not promote'.

"You're not a happy camper here, are you? Being incapacitated sucks." He sympathized.
"How long until they let you out?" Considering that this was the commander they were probably extra careful, especially with the contest still in full bloom.
Silently he wondered how bad Hawkes condition actually was. Why was he still here? "Were they able to fix ...you, James?"
It felt awefully strange to call him by his first name.

James remained sitting in the biobed as he looked at Fells.  The man was cleanly shaven, which was unusual for him.  He still was touching his face, which was an indication that the man was not used to being shaved.    Hawke knew the man and his record well.  However, he had a good heart and cared for other people deeply.  In fact, he had seen the man in action in several moments and could attest his combat prowess and bravery.

AS he mentioned that he was not officer, material.  James could not help but give a slight chuckle.  The measure was in jest, but the man did have a lot of the qualities that would eventually make a good officer.

He heard the man comment, and James could not help but smile.  "Do I look that miserable in here?.  James asked the rhetorical question. He knew that he was miserable staying on the bed but he could help but leave.

As the topic approached his Medical condition, James answered honestly "Well the Doc, said that I was mostly dead, which in my professional medical opinion is better than dead.  Aparently they were some complications from the poison, but I should be able to make a full recovery.  The prognosis of my recovery is uncertain at this time.  Thanks for asking

James then turned to Fell and asked "I have not read a report of anything that happened in the last three days did I miss any good stories?  I do like reading the good stuff and skim the boring stuff.

Wow, that was pretty serious stuff. "I knew you were in very serious condition. We managed to track down your attacker....Costa actually did....and we arrested him." He left out the part where they fought and that guy pissed him off royally by slashing his knife across his body.
"Medical called me and asked for quick information that could help you...."

He made a meaningful face and grinned a little despite the trouble he got into. "I got it....a little late maybe. I'm glad they saved you, sir. Would have been a little boring around here without you. The guy got killed by his own people. He practically got evaporated in front of my eyes. "
The commander had a very special touch, one could say.

"You want gossip? Juicy news? I guess Earth First caused a bunch of havoc around the base. They attacked several 'alien lovers' but people are fighting back. I heard there was even one guy who shot a few down himself. Bit chaotic at the moment."

James remained in his bed as he appreciated the visit.  He heard about the perpetrator with great interest.  For a second in his heart, he wanted to meet the person to he would be able to punch him in the face. He wanted revenge for what he had done.  He was bedridden for a couple of days, and his duty was affected.  Hawke was not happy about the situation.

He heard about the story and was surprised that it was Costa.  The person that was from Ops and had the awkward encounter in Ops was the person that apprehended the person. He looked at great interest as he heard the story and did not comment or interrupt until Fells finished it.

"Well, I'm glad that you and Costa were able to stop him before he did more harm to the station.  Would have loved to have the chance to punch the guy in the face myself.  But, apparently, the weird death has stopped it.  It sounds suspicious so I bet you can handle it  James mentioned.

James remained calmed and said "Nah, I want to thank you and the security team.  Without your hard work, I might be dead.  The doctors did their job.  But you also did yours.  Thank you and to your team.  Althought them killing themselves does not sound like terrorist it's more goal oriented.  Terrorist use fear to send a message.  They don't die before they give their message. .  James wondered.  He knew a little bit about the subject but was curious why they killed the person.  Unless he was not there for a message or for other reasons.

James looked down and said "I'm sorry I can't be much help with those stupid Earth First people. And that stupid guy that is just shooting people.  Who the hell does he think he is and does he think we are at a Bazzar?.  James smiled.

He then turned to Fells and asked "Have you ever had any near death experiences?" James asked as he appeared to be pensive. And waiting for the answer maybe he could comment on the dream.

He wrinkled his brow trying to figure out what Hawke meant by 'Bazar'? "What's a bazar?" He asked because he didn't get the analogy.

The next question baffled him even more and he shrugged. "I had a few hairy situations. I was very sick just before I joined Starfleet again...some alien bug...lots of feverish nights."
Fells didn't want to go into more detail as to where he had caught that because it would bring on a whole lot of unwanted questions.

"Sir, I was wondering whether you could possibly throw in a good word for me."

After all he had tried to save Hawkes life by doing what he did, but he needed to confess.
"I was a bit rough when I questioned the prisoner about the attack and what he did to you. I was under the impression that his information could save your life and needed it fast. That kind of got me in trouble."

James smiled as he did not get the reference.  Hawke knew or maybe the place and that he was acting like it was a lawless area.  "What I meant is that idiot was acting like this was a civilian section and not a Starfleet Starbase.  We have rules and law here, and we can't go around shooting people" .  James commented.  He was serious; the fact that the man shot someone randomly is a bad sign.  It probably means he has little regard for authority.

He took a moment and listen to his experience.  He though the man has been in a tight situation before and that he pulled through them.  "And you pulled through them.  That's my point.  Everything we learn makes us stronger.

He listened to what the man did, and he was the reason why he did that.  He felt touched by the man's loyalty.  He risked his carrier for him.  "First of all I am touched by your devotion and what you did for me.  And of course, I will help you. But I do have  a question.".

James then looked at the man and asked "Did you learn anything about that?".  Hawke asked.  The man was probably been yelled for the situation and Hawke knew that the best way to talk to him was more as a peer than a superior officer.

Fells gave him a questioning look because he didn't know what he was getting at. Was this another lecture? Would he repeat what Grond had said?
"That I failed to obey the rules and would be better advised to follow them?"
Heraised a brow.
"I'm aware of that but I was running out of time...your time."
Of all people Hawke should understand, then again...he was the Commander and probably followed all rules to the dot...or made them.
