Max asked. she said.
Max answered.
she replied.

Judy turned off the stovetop, set the latke-laden pan to the side, and then opened the oven. The smell of the bourekas, though present before, was much stronger now. The little pastries also had a golden glow to them.
she remarked.
Max assessed.

Judy remained silent, leaving the choice to the guests, but she was absolutely pro-porch in this weather. It was as nice as it got, and she liked the rustling of the creek and the breeze through the trees.

No, not really, Saya acknowledged. Though we do more meal preparation than I ever used to. We do have to use mostly replicated ingredients, but assembling and cooking the meals ourselves has been enjoyable.

They followed Max silently into the kitchen, exchanging amused looks again at the silliness.

Kyo quickly stepped forward to retrieve the dish Judy requested. He set it beside the stove, within easy reach for the cook.

At the same time, Saya had moved to look for plates and utensils, but paused when Judy asked about eating outside. It wasn't something she'd experienced more than a handful of times, and the weather was pleasant. That would be lovely, she said, glancing at Kyo, who nodded his agreement.

Will it be safe for Alieth to be loose out there?

Judy answered as she moved the latkes onto the serving plate.
Max answered, as he showed Saya to where the dairy set of utensils was kept.
Judy asked rhetorically. She carried out the latkes with both hands, not trusting her hands enough to balance a different object in each.
she asked.
Of course, as Judy headed out, this left Max to balance four plates on one hand, and her jacket on the other.

Saya collected a set of the indicated utensils as she considered what would be best for Alieth.

Kyo lifted the pan of bourekas carefully and said, I'll get the pen after I set these down. It might be large enough for the corgis, too, he offered, a little hesitantly. Not enough space for them to move around much, but they all seem to like rolling around together. And if I set it up against a wall, that would give them more space.

He followed Judy and quickly set down the bourekas so he could hurry back inside to get Alieth's portable pen. He returned in time to follow Saya as she stepped out onto to the porch.

Max took this as a worrying sign. Only two months ago, Judy had had an incident with her artificial heart, and he was fearful of a repeat. He ran to her, wrapped his arms and her jacket around her, and asked,
she answered. he asked, with almost a teasing glint. She deserved it, after scaring him so.

Kyo chuckled. I actually don't think I knew that. Mathematics was not my strongest subject. I bet Saya knew that, though. He grinned at her.

Indeed, Saya said primly as she set the silverware around the table.

Kyo returned a couple minutes later, lugging the accordioned sections of the pen with him. He set it down against the side of the house, then began unfolding it. Half the length, huh? he said, eying the sections critically.

Soon there was a rectangular area blocked off against the wall, about six feet by three feet. Kyo trotted back inside and returned with Alieth in his arms. She was honking in irritation. Kyo set her inside the pen and turned to ask, Will the corgis let me put them inside?

Judy answered. She stood up, went towards the pen, and hollered:

The dogs, expecting a snack, came, only to be very disappointed when they were scooped into the pen, one by one.
she told them.

She motioned for Saya and Kyo to join them at the table, and then asked,

Max agreed that Judy talked a whole bunch, but he also liked her that way. The little squeeze he gave her hand signified both sentiments.

Alieth was thrilled to have her friends captive with her. She immediately charged Bridge's side and bumped him with her horns, bouncing off his fluffy side to fall back on her haunches. This was great fun, so she did it again.

Kyo laughed at the corgis, and Judy's cooing over them, as he sat beside Saya at the table. He gave Saya a look to indicate that she should answer first.

She shrugged and said, We have been through a number of trials of late. Several members of the crew had to go undercover as smugglers while the Discovery dealt with the Toren Autonomy. They are...unpleasant. I had the dubious pleasure of taking the ship through a multi-vector assault. It is interesting, to say the least. I have been working on ways to improve the engines-

Kyo was giving her an impatient look.

Saya raised her eyebrows in response.

What Kyo is giving me that look for, Saya said as she picked up her fork and reached to stab a couple of bourekas and move them to her plate, is that, well, I have been promoted again. I am now a Master Chief and Chief of the Boat.

Saya's cheeks flushed green while Kyo grinned broadly. He served himself some bourekas, then offered Saya a couple of latkes.

He didn't say a word. Kyo was immensely proud of his mate, but knew his words would only add to her embarrassment. It was enough that he'd silently guilted her into telling on herself.

Saya cut into a boureka with her fork and took a bite to keep from having to say anything more.

[Vacation Home] Judy announced faux-solemnly.

After a laugh, she reached over the table to give Saya a little proud pinch on the cheek.
And then, at last, she began eating.
Max, who by now had had a bit of food, asked a question of his own.

Saya finished her bite and quipped, I believe that is doubly the case, gesturing to her stomach. And yes, similar. Not quite to the same degree as a true second officer. I likely won't ever take command of the ship except in an extreme emergency where both the captain and first officer were incapacitated. Even then, it would likely be another Bridge officer in command while I continue to work in Engineering. But I will have more duties pertaining to crew management and the like.

It was a most unexpected honor.

A most deserved honor, Kyo added. These are delicious! He said, gesturing to his plate.

Indeed, the latkes are quite tasty. The bourekas came out well, as always,[color] Saya said in agreement.

Judy exclaimed.
After a sip of water, she launched into the full kvetch.

Then, an idea crossed her mind.

That would be most appreciated. I think that I will come to desire a more comfortable chair as my pregnancy progresses. I expect to be quite uncomfortable as my body goes through such rapid changes. She shifted slightly as she thought about it.

Kyo peered around at their surroundings while he ate, admiring the scenery. It's incredibly beautiful here. I can't wait to do a little exploring. The holodeck's nice to keep in shape, but you can still usually tell you're not really outdoors. I've been doing some self-defense training as well.[color] Kyo's tone turned slightly grim and Saya reached over to pat his arm.

she quipped.

The meal went on, though not for too long.
Max asked.
Judy replied, chuckling at the change of roles.
Most of the trail segments near the home were thus, made to be suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. In terms of intensity, they were closer to a walk down the street than a trek up a mountain.
Those more intense trails, where one really broke a sweat, were reached via the friendly trails.
