The scans Therem worked on began showing something interesting: The water was filtered in a way to enhance the taste of the water at one of the wells at New Jericho. It mostly owed to how each well had a filter and treatment system.

However, the scan also began picking up something in the water. The scan detected the cholera bacteria in the water...but there's something off with it, as opposed to how cholera normally is...

Sitting at a bar with veranda, just along a wall by the window, so that she would be hidden in the shadows, a customer was taking a drink. She was enjoying how her results were going, and she had been waiting for where to go to next, seeing as she was reviewing a map of the Ciden IV surface. She looked up at the well in the distance, a deathly pale hand still on map PADD, and she scowled in suspicion at the well...and the human scanning it.

She leaned over to get a glance, careful not to show herself too good. "They couldn't have picked that up so soon?" she whispered to herself.

[New Jericho Well | New Jericho Colony | Ciden IV]

Therem's eyebrows shot up at the results of the scans--cholera in the water? At least that meant there was not a natural toxin from some mineral or subterranean death worm infecting the water supply. However, it did mean the colonists introduced the bacteria into the water somehow. He turned towards Talinn to deliver the news, showing him the results on the tricorder screen.

"Well Mr. Talinn, there's probably sewage in your water. These scans show cholera, but it's some mutated version. I think the Governor will need a team of scientists to scan every well to find the source. Maybe a busted sewer pipe or someone dug a really deep outhouse. I'll message the higher-ups..."

Taking about his padd, Therem realized that, aside from his work contacts, he only had the governor and that ambassador with the crazy hair on his official federation contact list. Shrugging, he shot over a quick message to them both.

<You got poo in the Jericho wells. Scans show a weird strain cholera. You'll need new filtration systems, and a team of scientists to find the infection source. Talinn has a copy of the scans.>

Kinley nodded to Charlotte. " Agreed. Let's do it. The quicker we can get the water tested, the sooner we can make an attack plan to purify it."  she said, giving a side glance. The governor certainly seemed touchy about this whole business. She didn't want to name names, but he certainly seemed like he had more than he was letting on.

[Stationside -> Main Ops]

Returning to the station, Kinley noticed an odd bustle of activity in the area. "Um., Lieutenant Addams, Nira,  what's going on?"

Quote from: Nira Said on April 17, 2024, 04:40:20 PM"Ambassador Suvin's dead. Dersch sent the details, but I think more details will come from Lieutenant Aune soon..."

The door to Ops opened and she saw Kinley arrive and give her question. Cloten, from a meter from Torra, said in a frightened squeak, "Hello, Little Orphan Annie."

Nira began telling Kinley what has been going on, getting her up to speed. Meanwhile, the EMH was staring, brow furrowed: Suvin was suffering from blade wounds, made to look like results from self harm, except the wounds were far too recent. Suvin was eventually killed from the shock, killed from the constant slashes. It was undoubtedly the same as Sot's death, but he will need an autopsy on the body to make sure.

Savar, meanwhile, waited until Nira was done talking to Kinley, and then he asked, "Excuse me, Commander Garrison, but since you're back, does that mean Ensign Fawkes will have returned with you?"

At Torra's station, the files and the more in-depth reports from Admiral Grayson on Palstine...or rather, Jimmy Koto, came in from Admiral Gillespie. In addition was a note: I gather Mister Koto is in your sector?

Quote from: Nira Said on April 20, 2024, 08:13:55 AM[Lieutenant Savar | Operations Center | Deck One | Outpost Solaere]

Savar had seen that Kinley had returned, and thus he surmised the rest of the party had returned. He then tapped his comm badge.

"Ensign Fawkes, report. How are conditions below, in light of the diplomatic party?"

| Ensign Fawkes | Science Officer | Meeting Room | New Jericho |

Holding the pitcher of tainted water, Charlotte moved with Commander Garrison to transport it back to the station. The commander and the ensign agreed that the water needed testing immediately.

| Ensign Fawkes | Science Officer | Transporter Room 3| Outpost Solaere |

Remaining by Garrison's side as soon as they were transported back to the station, Charlotte was ready to test the pitcher of water, but Savar commed for a status report on conditions planetside. "Conditions are not well. Counselor Sot is dead, killed by numerous cuts to his body. Death was caused by shock due to trauma and blood loss. An autopsy should be forthcoming." She looked for a place to set the water for the time being but thought better of the idea as contaminants could enter the pitcher and taint the evidence. "Also, two Vulcan Ambassadors, Skoth and Toth, fell ill during the initial meeting after drinking water from a local aquifer. The well is being tested now, and I was going to the lab to test the suspected water for contamination."

She turned to Garrison momentarily. "With your permission, Commander, I will get on this now."

Fawkes exited the transporter room, still on comms with Savar. "I will see you momentarily, Lieutenant."

Quote from: Nira Said on April 19, 2024, 08:41:32 PM[{NPC} Admiral Hamish Gillespie | Readiness Cafe | Starbase 185]

Gillespie smirked. "Aye, a wee look at a wee ship," he said, with a chuckle of a scoff. "That's good to hear. Once we're done, follow me doon."

[{NPC} Admiral Hamish Gillespie | Bridge | Deck One | USS Horizon NCC-75668-B] | Starbase 185]

"Allow me to welcome yeh to the Horizon, Galloway," Gillespie said, despite having to take Galloway though the airlock. "Patrol and escort vessel, like the Defiant in the past. She's been on shakedown for two months noo, had to fix things over on her. Once the shakedown cruise is finished, she'll settle in a new home for assignment at an ootpost.

"You'll find more information in the database,"
Gillespie continued, "but suffice it to say, it's one of three prototype Aquarian class starships, refitted for more starship assignment since some of their respective Odyssey class ships they're usually assigned to are retired. Aye, I'm not joking," he added, "the Horizon used to be a yacht.

"She's been in drydock the longest due to the beating it took on last year's Frontier Day," Gillespie further explained. "A sister ship, the Revenant, had been on a cruise of her own to check out the capabilities, and when their assignment was complete, the crew reported a good deal in regards to improving the ship, which we took the liberty to get to; the old Aquarian model used to have pylons and nacelles, but the Revenant crew - temporarily captained by your former first officer, Ian - reported hoo vulnerable it was, among other things, so we began patching up the Horizon further, tinkering some, and before the Revenant herself returned to drydock.

"Among some of the things I wanted yeh to look over,"
Gillespie explained, "is one of the reasons we took so long working on the Horizon at drydock: We had noticed that, dated as the Challenger is, its shields make it the most powerfully defensive starships in the fleet. Point of impact shielding. The shipyard lads had been trying to emulate the design of the shields made by its former Chief Engineer, Mister Lek. Horizon is one of them, we had been intending it to give it as much of a defence advantage as much as teeth. We had hoped the opportunity to have a word with yeh on how close we made it compared to Lek's."

[Bridge - USS Horizon]

Ian had to admit, this new class of ship was different. Smaller even than a Defiant-Class, this ship was clearly not an explorer. It was an escort, Ian thought of the old sailing ships and thought the term frigate would be appropriate.

"You've certainly loaded the thing with all the bells and whistles. Multi-phasic regenerative shields, neural gel-packs, holographic communications, she has it all. I guess it's a bit a amusin' ta see one of these Pirates of Penzance ship's yachts bein' turned into a functionin' little ship. Seems a good fit as an escort or patrol ship for a space station. Far more juice than a runabout, but short of a beastie like Defiant.

"If she's got point of impact, whoever tangles with her is in for a nasty surprise. That system has done more ta keep Challenger in one piece than all the other systems we have. I think you have a winner here Admiral."

Lek's response took Betaika off guard, surprised that he jumped to the conclusions that we did. His communication to the entire ship that the captain was compromised clearly did not reach is enlarged ears. "Mr Lek, the commander revealed to us that the captain is compromised. A clone if you will. You are mistaken in assuming that we are the clones. I relieved the captain of his command some time ago, and he escaped." Betaika took a breath and decided to change tact. "Believe me or remain suspicious, keep engineering secured. And please only overload it as a last resort."

He turned to Hansen, who had been waiting next to him. "Search the ship and find him. We have no luck here." He informed.

[Main Engineering - USS Discovery]

Lek listened and firmly remained skeptical. It was like Frontier Day again, but at least he wasn't alone this time. He called back.

"You don't have to worry about Engineering being safe or me getting trigger happy with any anti-matter. You handle what is going on out there, I will handle what is going on in here."

Character Species: Human

Character Family: Kenzo Honda (Father), Lee Hyojin (Mother), Tomoki Honda (Older Brother)

Character Bio:

Fubuki was born in Miyazaki, Japan, to Wagyu Beef farmers. Her father, Kenzo, is a native Japanese and is in-charge of running the farm that has been owned by his family for many generations. He met his mother, a Korean national who he fell in love with when the pair met in the city by chance. Raised on the farm growing up, working with the cattle there consumed most of her life. Working on the farm with cattles was no easy task, and with all the physical work involved, she remained physically fit from all the work she had to put in daily at the family farm. She doesn't have much time for hobbies, but when she does, she likes to go swimming and watch movies and other shows to relax.

She also loves to draw and is quite the artist. Being raised in a rural part of the country, she has very little knowledge of the universe, the Federation or other non-human species. All that changed when a childhood friend told her that he was leaving their town to join up with Starfleet. Before he went, he indulged in her curiosity about what Starfleet was, and that managed to pique her interest in following a similar path. After debating a whole year, she managed to convince her parents to let her leave the farm to embark on a new journey by joining up with Starfleet.

Fubuki was more than competent in her culinary capabilities. She already had on her mind what would make for an easy and delicious lunch. Crispy pan fried bacon along with an omelette sandwiched by crispy toasted bread with a healthy amount of lettuce and onions. The small portable grill she had with her had proven to be a luxury for her. She then carefully grilled sticks of chicken skewers filled with delicious morsels of chicken chunks and green and yellow peppers yakitori style. Once they were grilled to perfection, Fubuki removed them from the grill and blew gently on one of them before taking a bite of her sandwich. They had enough of a crisp to them that they had the crisp when you bit onto them, but not too crispy that the entire piece shattered into pieces upon breaking. The egg was fried equally fantastic as well, and the aroma from the sandwich was heavenly.

She was just about to take another bite when she felt eyes on her. Looking from her meal, she found herself locking eyes with a dark-haired man around her age seated not too far away from her. Had he been there all along? How in the world did she miss him to begin with? Judging from the way he seemed to have his eyes on her sandwich, he looked absolutely famished. If eyes could devour food, she was certain his would. She contemplated either moving over or just simply waving him over to join her. Eventually deciding on waving him over first with an inviting smile, she took the time to speak. "Would you like to have some food? I still have some freshly grilled chicken sandwiches left.

Therem followed Talinn out to the colony's water supply, curious to see what the Federation had provided them. However, he was a little disappointed to see it wasn't ultra high tech.

"I thought it would be made from diamonds and lasers with how the governor talked about the fancy water. Oh well, let's take a look."

Pulling out a tricorder modified for testing his mine's well water, Therem began to scan the well. He used the device to scan the water, pipes, well walls, and even the air above the well. Afterwards, he turned his attention to the water storage container, scanning the pipes, water, and material. The device beeped after each scan, and began to compute it's findings on the small screen.

"I usually use this to make sure no chemicals or minerals are escaping my mines, so it should work here. Hopefully no one freaks out when they find out there is natural fluoride in the water..."

Engineering is secure and well protected.  Going by all the defense probes you have out there, if you wanted to destroy the ship, you would have already done it, so that tells me, whoever is causing all this ruckus needs a ship. You can let whoever is in charge know, I will destroy the ship before I let anyone take control of her."
