Ensign Danjar-Torra Addams
[USS Discovery - Holodeck (Carnival program)]

That Don insisted on continuing had Torra concerned until she saw his smile was genuine.  She dipped her head in agreement and walked beside him towards the Tunnel of Love waterboat ride.

Though Torra had never been on a boat before, she could see by how the people ahead were loaded on that the their were safety features like railings, a narrow section of the ride to ensure the boat couldn't move while passengers were getting on or off.  She wasn't concerned at all.  She was however rather excited.  Despite the slow pace of the water flow, Torra was looking forward to this ride.

The advice from the ride attendant was for Don to get into the boat first, so Torra waited.   Then finally it was her turn.  She nodded at his warning and carefully took his hand before stepping into the boat.  Despite the railing that her other hand held onto Torra found the feel of not having solid ground under her feet very unnerving and she gripped onto Don's hand tightly.   Torra sat quickly and the feeling of disorientation dissipated just as swiftly as it had come.

She smiled at her husband.  "Thank you, love."

Sitting in the small cozy space meant for two, Torra's large stature was a bit of a disadvantage.  Her knees came up high, making the safety bar difficult to close but eventually Torra was tucked into the boat nice with Don close beside.

Ahead of them the tunnel beckoned.

Torra could honestly say what she experienced was not anything she would have anticipated.

She had expected slow music, soft lighting, and historical couples to inspire a new budding or well-seasoned romance.  What she got seemed like a random float, through the dark interspersed with a mish-mash of different displays of various time periods in Earth's history beginning from the earliest of times.

"Those are dinosaurs, aren't they?" she asked, puzzled as to why dinosaurs would be in a Tunnel of Love.  Those particular dinosaurs did not look in the least bit friendly much less lovable.   Perhaps the displays weren't important at all it was merely there to justify a bit of a make-out session in the dark?

She leaned closer to Don.  Not that she was afraid of the holographic animatronics, but because she came on the ride seeking to be closer to him... it would be a shame to have that disrupted because she didn't understand the cultural reference that these displays were meant to carry.

"Were dinosaurs a common romantic theme in the 20th Century?" she inquired, but just after that the displays changed to more ethnic representations.   But again the 'romance' was lost to her.   She hoped her lack of understanding wasn't ruining the ride for Don.
[Lieutenant JG Nira Said | Holodeck | Deck Six | USS Discovery]

Nira cuddled up to Evandev as the boat proceeded. It seemed so romantic to her. She wrapped an arm around Evandev, and in the intimacy and comfort of the boat, she then began to kiss him. Good and deep, and the passing images of love helped with...

Suddenly she stopped and looked up and said, "What in Allah's name is that doing in here?"

She was noticing a dinosaur, of all things. Personally, she wasn't aware if dinosaurs were good subjects for tunnels of love, unless the ride was intended to be a means of describing animal methods of love of millions of years past.

She shrugged and went back to kissing Evandev in the intimacy and dark of the Tunnel of Love.

Lt. Cmdr. Rayek tr'Lhoell
[Katra Station - Deck 2 - s'Lhoell quarters - evening of day 2]

Cmdr. Tess t'Lhoell (7 months pregnant)
+ NPC Lt. Fabiano Moreno, NPC Cadet Benjin Moreno

[Katra Station - Deck 2 - s'Lhoell quarters - evening of day 2]

Tess, possibly like Rayek, watched her father's and brother's expression while Rayek told them the whole story. While he did that, it made her recall all of those moments together with him and it felt so good that all of it had turned out so well for both of them.
Unsurprisingly, Fabiano's and Benjin's face changed their expressions during Rayek's little speech. Tess hoped they would understand and focus on the positive aspects of it.

After Rayek had finished, Benjin looked at him with wide blue insecure eyes. There were some bits in the story that caused more questions for him. He never had ever considered that those were problems someone would have to go through. So it all left him a little speechless.

Fabiano had looked Rayek right in the eyes the whole time. Now he leaned back in the chair, legs crossing. He looked pensive.

As the silence grew longer and weighed heavier on Tess, she felt the urge to add some explanation on her part. "I have never told you about the disease, it just would have worried you and I wouldn't have been able to offer any kind of explanation. But Dr. Senva healed both of us and there was no damage done whatsoever."

Fabiano looked back at his daughter, then moved his eyes to regard Rayek. He took his time to try and look at things from Rayek's perspective, taking into consideration his background and probable cultural upbringing. There was a reason Romulans had a reputation of being ruthless and deceitful. He likely had felt threatened by Tess' knowledge of his ability. There also was no doubt to him that the incident had nothing to do with their relationship today. Their love was as genuine as it could be.

Finally he looked directly at Rayek. "If anything, this information has only increased my respect for you, Rayek. I understand you took a risk of letting others know of your disease, but you took the chance for the sake of their lives - although you had to expect severe consequences if this knowledge was spread and rubbed someone the wrong way. I am glad that apparently this didn't happen."

Tess let out the breath she'd been holding and smiled widely at her father. She was glad he was able to see it that way. Benjin smiled as well - but it seemed a little forced.

That Fabiano took a long time to react, while it extended his nervousness, boded well. Usually if someone were to react emotionally it happened immediately.  He could see Benjin's expression become uncertain.  There had just been too many revelations about him and his past.  Rayek made a mental note to spend some time during the trip - if Tess assigned Benjin to the LoD Qan - regaining the man's trust.

When Fabiano finally spoke, his response took Rayek by surprise.   The Romulan didn't correct him on the false notion that he contacted EVERYONE himself...  some were contact by Starfleet Medical to keep things anonymous.  It was only those that he had a connection to that he contacted personally.   Lek, Admiral Torngate, Admiral Rellek, Liz, Hrafn... and then others that already knew of his ability due to their aid in attempting to train him during his time on Challenger... Ocras, Alieth, Lt Trilarck even Miss Moors.

So far no one had returned his message confirming or denied infection by pa'nar - other than Tess.  And so far no one had seemingly outted him and his ability.  Lek had been the one that he had worried over the most.   But if anything after a bit of justifiable anger at Rayek's attempted action  they'd remained friends.  Lek had been the one time the use of his gift...  Ferengi were notorious for being impossible to mind-read... yet Rayek had to test that himself.

Rayek nodded solemnly at Fabiano's trust in him. "Thank you, sir." the Romulan, used the honorific to showed the man his respect for him as his 'Father-in-Law' -  though Fabiano may just think that he hadn't gotten used to his Command rank yet. "I am glad of that as well."

To help alleviate the heavy serious mood, Rayek looked over to Tess, smiling at his wife before standing up.   As he headed towards the room's replicator he inquired,   "Who is in the mood for some ice cream?"

Following Saqa7's Bridal shower questionnaire that he'd been forced to answer on video, Rayek had made it a point to try ice cream with Tess.   He'd even found Almond Ice Cream.  But that was for nights when it was just he and Tess.   Tonight he would opt for a sugar-free keto-friendly Butter Pecan ice cream.

Cmdr. Tess t'Lhoell (7 months pregnant)
[Katra Station - Deck 2 - Security Chief's office - morning of day 4, after the transfer of command ceremony]

Tess savoured the gentle kiss as it was the last time for several long weeks she would be able to kiss her husband. Her hand came up to stroke gently over the stubble of his beard as she smiled up at him. The smile turned into a giggle at his comment about Solluk better appreciating the sacrifice Rayek made. "I'm sure he has an idea that this is not easy for you", she said quietly.

Her eyes roved slowly over his features while she listened to his request. Others might think that he was overreacting, but by now Tess had learned to accept her husband's 'paranoia', having a better understanding of where he came from and why his concern was valid.

A code word ... Tess had to think on it for a moment. As she did so, she bit her lower lip, worrying it with her teeth - something she did when she was nervous or thought about something. Having found a word, her face lit up and she lifted her gaze back to look at Rayek while she was still in his arms. "Sunberry." She grinned. She had introduced the bright little orange berries to him when they had been on Ba'ku. Her father, Ishto, had used to bake cake from them and after their wedding they had taken two bottles of sunberry wine with them. This was something she was looking forward to after the birth of their son.

"Do you have a code word for me too?"

Rayek smiled at Tess' choice of word - committing it to memory.  When she asked about his own, Rayek smiled and responded with something he had hoped to surprise her with. "qamuSHa'.  It means 'I love you' in Klingon." he explained.  He'd been refreshing his Klingon pronunciation late last night.

There was so much more he wanted to say.   He was very aware of how dangerous this mission could potentially get which was why he'd pre-recorded a message to her and their son if he did not make it back.  He'd never done such before.  Never had need of a 'last will and testament' before either.  He'd set it up so that the message would be delivered if his service record was ever deemed KIA or MIA.

"I have to go, or I'll be late." he stated sadly as he stepped away from her. "I-jol au, e'lev"

He grabbed up his PADD and gear bag and headed off.

Officer's Mess - That evening

K'mpoc walked over to Kal, and clapped his shoulder, standing close to Rayek.  "Ha!  Warrior Trees!  That may be a bridge too far for even the most liberal-minded Klingon philosopher.  But I like that you consider even the fantastic!"

"The Phylosians would surely appreciate the sentiment," Solluk mused.

"Sir, I am Klingon by the heart of the soul. I lack the immune system of a Klingon. . . " he gave a look at the blood wine. "I will be cleaning up. It has been a tradition since I had my first drink..." he gave a loud laugh. That was true. He could not hold the Bloodwine like a true warrior.

"And thank you for pouring me some," he said smiling. Then he be sleeping it off waking up with a headache. His body had not the chance to get used to Bloodwine again.

Everything was perfect for him. Everything he had wanted had come to pass. "May your blood scream!" he toasted to everyone.

Rayek chuckled at the man's bluntness and open recognition of his limits.  At the toast raised by Kal ne', Rayek lifted his own glass of bloodwine and saluted the man back. " 'IwlIj jachjaj "

At that moment, several of the enlisted crew began entering the Mess Hall.  They began to assemble at smaller tables that surrounded the main rectangular one.  Some of them were carrying musical instruments, a few of a design Solluk had never seen, and a few he recognized from the recent concert at the Klingon embassy.

Solluk gave K'mpoc a questioning look.

K'mpoc smiled, "Ah.  Some of our troops are amateur musicians.  I invited a few sergeants to join us for dinner.  I thought it would honor our Federation allies to sing some warrior songs of the Federation.  I hope you don't mind."

Solluk's eyes widened in surprise, but he shook his head.  "No, I don't mind at all.  I'm just..."

K'mpoc's gaze was like a beam fixed on Solluk, "Soon, we may all be soaked in the blood of our enemies.  But until that glorious day, it is my duty to share with all of you more from the rest of Klingon culture.  The wine.  The song.  The love.  The merriment.  Outsiders often only see that we revel in death.  But in truth, we revel as much in life.  The quality of a life well-lived enhances the glory of its end."

Solluk glanced about, "I wonder if the Tholians will join us."

Officer's Mess - That evening

Torpa was among the several enlisted troops gathering in the mess hall, with her large Qoq jan in tow.   The Qoq jan was a large, ancient Klingon stringed instrument that dated back to a time before the Klingons had achieved spaceflight.

She set the large stringed contraption upon one of the smaller tables at the periphery of the room, apart from the large feasting table.  Then she approached Catherine with a smile.  "We are playing a human song today," she said, as though having a group of troops assembling to play music was a routine event, and only the song choice was notable.

"It is one that has become popular in our movement, ever since the ambassador heard it being played at a sports-"

K'mpoc's good humor broke away and he barked, "yItamchoH!" at her.  The word translated roughly into, 'be silent!'  Then, seeming to catch himself, he added, "There is no need to bore an officer with such details."

Torpa's initial response to his barked rebuke was to lift her chin in defiance.  But then she seemed to remember herself and began to look chastened.  Changing the subject, she said, "If you like pie, Cat lagh, the chef makes a good Targ kidney pie.  I think they are slaughtering a Targ tomorrow."

Kost entered the mess hall, carrying a DIr 'In, a type of Klingon drum made from stretched Targ skin.  "Torpa always keeps track of the Targ slaughtering," he interjected loudly, "It is her second-favorite type of meat."

Several of the other Klingon troops laughed.  Torpa lifted her chin and declared, "Targ, at least, is properly filling.  Some other meats are barely an appetizer."

The gathering Klingons laughed again.  Kost, to his credit, laughed with them.

Solluk did not laugh.  His gaze was fixed upon K'mpoc, who seemed to be working very hard to ignore his Captain's eye, joining in on the laughter with extra gusto.

The arrival of musicians was unexpected but a very nice touch.  While the musicians set up, Rayek ate more gagh and listened to the various conversations going on at the table but didn't add anything unless specifically address.

At one point, Rayek turned his attention to K'mpoc as the Klingon snapped at an underling for talking of something she obviously should not have... though, as Rayek mentally reviewed the lead up to the barked command, he couldn't see what had been so out of place in regards to her comment.  Odd, and it seemed to Rayek that Solluk thought so too.

Not wishing to alert K'mpoc to his curiosity, Rayek turned his attention back to his squirming meal and waited for the entertainment to begin.  It was then that he noticed that Zex had arrived with the Tholian ambassador.

Rayek stood up to show respect to arriving Tholian diplomat.

Officer's Mess - That evening

Zex admired the Tholian silk.  It was so very pretty.  Maybe one day she would own a dress made it.

But the focus was on the 7' weapon.  It was, of course, nice too.  Once it was accepted by K'mpoc, they finally made it too the mess hall.

She could see that most people had already arrived.  She could also see the food that was available.  But her first duty was to make sure that Eydis was attended too.  "Is there anyone you would like to meet or be introduced too?" she asked.

"Jolan tru Ambassador Eydis.  I am Lieutenant Commander Rayek tr'Lhoell on Katra.  Here, I have been granted the rank of Sogh.  Welcome." He held back the customary offers of food or drink, as in the EV suit prevented the Tholian from actual partaking of the meal.  "Can I get you something to sit on during the performance?" he inquired.  "The LoD Qan crew is just about to entertain us."

"Yes, those are dinosaurs," he replied. He had adored the craftsman work of these statues. The sharp teeth of the one with the legs and short hands. He was having doubt that this was a romance ride. The music was light. It did not seemed to be romantic to him.

"No. I don't see any cavemen," he shared. The ride continued into a small dark and entered in a cavern area where the sharp ceiling came down.

"Did it say 'Love'," he whispered to her. The area of this tunnel was getting rather very cool with the breeze blowing the cold air. "I be your warmth," he cuddled with her. Not sure the set up was good. Maybe it was supposed to be that way. Made the couples cuddle and get close. Still the lay out was not what he thought was good. He never had gone into love tunnels.

PO1 ShranLahr ch'Verret
[USS Challenger - Deck 2 - Room 237]

Despite Lahr's earlier words, taking time away from the bridge immediately after the battle  had been more difficult than expected and so despite Ruth's significant look towards him as she left, it took nearly another 2 hours - an hour past his usual shift time - before he was finally able to leave without causing added hardship to those that relied on him.

Lahr made his way quickly to the quarters he'd assigned to Ruth earlier that afternoon.  When he arrived he didn't stand outside the door waiting to be let in, because of the permissions that she had suggested the doors opened automatically for him.   The Andorian stepped within, but when he glanced about the main room Ruth wasn't there.

That was to be expected.  He'd unexpectedly kept her waiting 2 hours.

As his glance turned towards the bedroom, Lahr smiled, his antenna up and alert in anticipation.  He started for the open doorway.  "Sorry, I'm late." he called out.  Yet as he reached the open doorway, the sounds of soft snoring drifted out from the room.

"Really?!" he remarked to himself quietly.  Then peeked into the room to see Ruth in her bedclothes and a PADD lying face down on the floor beside her bed.

Lahr chuckled, and walked over to the bed, picking up the PADD from the floor and setting it on the bedside stand.  He gazed down at his sleeping Ruth and could scarcely believe that she was actually here.  He had to wonder what Admiral's string she pulled to manage to come back to Challenger.

Seeing her now he wanted to wrap his arms about her and hold her close, but she looked so peaceful sleeping it was a shame to wake her.  Besides which, he had to wonder if she maybe needed the sleep more than a tryst with her 'blue man'.   When last he'd seen her she still wasn't sleeping well.   They'd made quite the pair.

Lahr circled to the other side of the bed and ever so slowly moved onto the bed, laying down beside her to wait for her to wake.  One arm draped itself around her waist and he held her.  It wasn't the time together they'd both expected but he was happy with it.   She would wake soon enough and they had plenty of time together now.

[Lieutenant JG Nira Said | Defense Facility | Ri'lowo]

Nira saw the shield absorbing the phaser beam. When Lek gestured for her to fire with him, she nodded.

"Perhaps both our phasers can work," she said. "But I feel we may likely have to use all our phasers to bring it down."

With that, she fired the stubb and shot at the field. Raising an eyebrow, she realized she had an insight of inspiration...

"Lieutenant Addams? Mister Bervarn?" she said. "See if you can get your phasers and fire at the field with us."

“I don’t think this will work, Lek,”  Don said as he pointed his phaser to add the fire power to the force field door. Even the highest settings had not one thing to effect.

“This was built to take serious damage. As I was saying about Japan with the atomic bomb. It had the power to flatten cities down to the ground. The door must have a lock inside. It was design for nothing to get in. They must have a way to get fresh air. This design was far from the world war 2 Holodecks,” he shared. He had wished he done those ground troop programs.

“I know they used underground too...” he said as he was thinking. He was scanning the area with his eyes trying to visualize the lay out.

“I am not sure how radiation works. Is radiation heavy then air?” He asked. “If it was heavy then they would have air ducts of something above or there are some where here on the ground...and they sure would need power to generate the air from coming in and exhaust to get rid of the poor air like a circulate.”

Wondering about

With Ian manning the Bridge, Kyle had taken the time to make his usual rounds that he had made a habit the last two weeks they had been in space dock. He had been visiting with all thirty three of the injured officers that had been in the scrimmage with the Tzenkethi. He had only made a few trips over to the starbase in order to either pick up something one of them had wanted or to walk with one that had been granted permission to go over and walk around for their therapy. He felt that it was the lest he could do. Ian had had the tough job of writing all the letters.

Kyle had just been wondering the corridors and coincidentally, his stomach growled just as he approached the Officers Mess. With a shrug, he approached the door and entered when it opened.

Deck Three - Officers Mess

As Kyle entered the mess and noticed the new Doctor that had come aboard just before they had gone out and encountered the Tzenkethi. Despite all the time he had spent in Sickbay, Kyle hadn't actually gotten a chance to meet the young Ensign and have a chat with him.

No time like the present. he thought as he made his way to the replicator.

"Steak, medium rare, two eggs over easy, hash browns and coffee, black." he ordered. He thought about for a moment as his food was produced and realized he hadn't eaten since dinner, two nights before. He grabbed his tray and headed over to the Doctor's table.

"Doctor Seo, right?" Mind if I join you?" he asked upon his approach.

Software programs/engineers are trying to 'determine the future.'
It a bit hard to follow, but mostly interesting.
