Character Bio:

Ocras was born the middle child of a mildly political family. His mother had married a man from a less powerful House as an act of political demonstration. Yrena spent most of her time working on planetary political issues, and she passed that passion on to her eldest child Yllion. Ocras' father, Reintz, was the inspiration for Ocras to apply to Starfleet after completing his degree at the Academy of Arts. At the academy, he studied the great artists and poets of Betazed, as well as those of other Federation planets. Ocras found that he very much enjoyed sculpting in clay and stone.

Ocras is more active than the typical Betazed. He enjoys physical activities and animals, and has made a point of seeking out adventures with large creatures, like whales and horses. Sensing their minds and emotions helped Ocras deepen his experiences. To manage his adventures, he learned to swim and free climb, and he has taken several courses on wilderness survival. Some courses were taken on holodecks so he could learn about survival on other worlds. His father encouraged those classes and activities, and took Ocras to take his first test to be evaluated to see if he would be sponsored by the Planet to become a cadet in Star Fleet.

Ocras still has some of the social naivete his people are known for. He is honest, though not deliberately hurtful, in all communications. When communicating with other species, he often checks to feel their emotions to verify that their motives match their words. He has learned that off worlders do not like having telepaths touching their minds, that they see it as an invasion. This still seems strange to Ocras.

Sample post:

His mother stood at the door, her eyes visibly radiating the pain her mind was broadcasting.

Ocras did not turn to look, but sent a gentle pressure of love and affirmation through their tight familial link.

He did not have much to pack, and most of what he did have was compact, ready to be taken on an excursion into the mountains. Yrena came closer, taking a loose jacket from his bag and re-folding it into a more neat packet. They stood together, side by side, slowly condensing his life into three cartons and two bags. They did not pack everything, of course. His early sculptures stayed in their places on the shelves. The certificates showing his mastery of various skills did not get packed. The last physical hints of his childhood stayed in their places.

He could see through his mother's eyes how empty the room looked, and he turned to her. Without words, telepathic or audible, they bent their necks and touched foreheads. Tears leaked down both of their faces, but they were healing tears.

In the living room, his father and brother sat waiting. They had obviously felt the sadness welling from his room, and they were projecting soft hope and optimism, hoping to buoy Ocras and Yrena.

Reintz's mental voice was soft and firm. It was the mental touch that Ocras could remember touching his mind for as long as he could remember anything.

Garo's mind was full of stories about Starfleet and the adventures he expected his older brother to have. The younger boy had a scientific mind, and would likely go on to become a great engineer. This had caused many disagreements between them when they were younger, but now Garo gave his full support to Ocras' goals.

Reintz and Ocras walked out the door, turning back to wave to Yrena and Garo before continuing to the Transporter pad. His cartons and bags would be sent along on the transport. As he stepped onto the pad, Ocras smiled at his father and gave him a mental hug. He waved as the computer scanned his body. The familiar hum began and Ocras watched his father disappear.
