Mission Title:   Akagi, Soryu, Hiryu
Synopsis:  While cruising in the Gama Quadrant, the Tempest comes accross what looks like a Mitsubishi Zero, with it's propeller and engine replaced by a miniaturized yet powerful impulse engine.  Inside the airtight cockpit, that features it's own environment the crew discover an unconscious human.  Investigation leads to the discovery that these are somehow people descended from the sailors aboard the Earth World War II vessels the Hiryu, Soryu and Akagi, which were all sunk in the Battle of Midway.  An unknown alien intelligence has brought them to the Gamma Quadrant and updated their technology.  They now operate three starships based on their ancestors' original aircraft carriers and use similar tactics and diplomacy to that of World War II Japan.  The 'USS' Markings on the Tempest lead to an unprovoked attack.

Starting Point:  Cruising somewhere in the Gamma Quadrant after their last mission.
End Goal:  The discovery of the descendant of the IJN Akagi
Story points that must be passed?:
1. Discovery of the Zero 'fighter' shuttlecraft
2. Awakening of the pilot
3.  Arrival of a scout 'plane'
4. Arrival of three waves of 'planes' fighters torpedoes and bombers  intent on attacking the Tempest
5. Battle with the Carrier ship Akagi and it's escorts
6. Peace Settlement with the Imperial Japanese Navy... of the Gamma Quadrant

Departments: (To make sure everyone has something to do.)
- Flight: Normal flight operations, then perhaps dogfighting with the Japanese Imperial Pilots
- Engineering:  Repairing Damage,  perhaps building a squadron of similar ones to defend the tempest
- Operations: explaining and reverse engineering the 'plane'
- Security and tactical:  Defend the Tempest
- Medical:  Caring for and assisting with the questioning of the Imperial Pilot
- Science:  Explaining how the Imperial Forces are here based on stories from the crew and peculiarities of their ship design.

This is a retooled, revamped and expanded version of the above.  Most notable is the addition of more of the History of how the IJN came to be in the Gamma Quadrant.

About the Imperial Japanese Navy

History
The Imperial Japanese Navy existed at it's height justbefore and during the Second World War on Earth between the Earth years 1935 until the defeat of the Imperial Forces in 1945 after the use of the Atomic Bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The Ships that this mission ais concerned with were involved in the Battle of Midway Island, in June of 1942.  According to the official record the Akagi, Hiryu and Soryu were sunk on 7 June, 1942 on the final day of the battle.  All three were aircraft carriers, the Akagi being the flagship of Admiral Nagumo, commander of Aircraft Carrirs in the fleet sent to take Midway.

The damage to the three vessels was much less than is officially reported.  Forthe purposes of this story at least, the three vessels along with much of their crews turned up missing athe day after the battle.  During the tellng of this story the Federation crew can learn all or parts of the following:
1. All of the Japanese encountered are descended from the crews of these three Carriers and a few f their escort craft.
2. A mysterous alien race rescued them and brought them to this part of space, sharing with them technologies and helping them to integrate their own tech with this 'futuretech'.  Given this quantum leap technologically rhw humans were unabe to change the basic designs they used, they have very much stagnated tactically and in term of ways of thinking even though it has been nearly five centuries.
8.  Noone is quite sure where the female stock for the new race came from, initially the ships' crews were all male.
3.
