Back to Basics / Bare Hands - Claimed
« on: December 11, 2017, 11:44:15 am »
Mission Title: Back to Basics / Bare Hands
Synopsis: The USS YourShip has received an unusual distress signal, consisting primarily of a repeated sequence of numerical characters, counting down to zero. The signature can either be Federation or that of an ally in order to draw them in. They trace the origin to an uncharted planet and send an away and/or survey team to explore. They find wreckage, but that's not all. On this planet is a sentient, predatory species, that have developed an obsession with all things tech. They are beyond compelled to collect, use, take apart and learn about anything new and technological. When the team lands, various items begin to go missing. Phasers, medical tech, etc. The creatures do not outright kill the party, but they are not averse to injuring anyone who gets in their way, and won't hesitate to defend themselves if attacked. With the team being stripped of their tech gradually but absolutely surely, they have to fall back on their bare hands and wits in order to escape this predicament with their lives and technology intact.

Starting Point: Receiving the distress signal, or alternatively, beginning the away mission to the planet.
End Goal: Recovering the Federation tech and any missing personnel. The SIMM must develop a way to communicate with the tech-hoarding predators, disable their distress signal traps and possibly come to some manner of agreement.

Story points that must be passed?:
- Receipt, decryption and tracking of the distress signal.
- Due to the volatile nature of the storm systems in the atmosphere of the planet (or unpredictable atmospheric dissipation?), transporters are out (portable site-to-site might be an option). Flight must plot a course down in a shuttle, and devise a way to leave again safely.
- Team finds the wreckage and the jerry-rigged distress beacon.
- Gradually begin to realise items are going missing, nothing on scanners.
- Contact with the species made when a member of the party spies a creature and fights back.
- Find a way to identify and track the creatures.
- Massive joint attack by the planet's inhabitants, working as one to take down the team.
- A sub-team finds the cache!
- Find a way to escape.

Departments:
- Flight: It's going to be a bumpy ride. In and out, bad conditions. Possibly have to contend with a damaged shuttle and compensate.
- Engineering: The shuttle will be in need of repair, and it'll have to be done quickly. Engineering will also be tasked with the study and breakdown of all the tech the creatures have been using; so many different components from multiple races being used.
- Operations: So much to manage here. Assisting with repairs, the identification and cataloguing of tech, possible recovery of crew, organisation of teams.
- Security and tactical: Sec/Tac will also have their hands full. Fighting off unknown creatures, possibly without weaponry. Protection details, tracking. Time to punch some aliens!
- Medical: Dealing with any injuries, possibly without much by way of diagnostic tools or tech. Working closely with Science teams to attempt a species identification, examination of live captured specimen.
- Science: Finding a way to communicate and locate. Monitoring the planet's weather systems. Studying the aliens.

Note: In my head they look like giant sentient spiders. Big hoarder spiders that explode with goo when you shoot them.

Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.'
