Although the view of so many suffering was atrocious, Alex didn't let his guard down. These were the Borg after all. Still though, he holstered his phaser and returned to the shuttle, pulling out emergency medkits and a tricorder. Even with failing nanites, he wasn't sure if their basic field medication would have any effect on these invalid, but it wouldn't hurt to try to ease the suffering for those more serious cases; and at the end of the day, it would be less they'd have to worry about taking back up to the Discovery.

"Commander, if the Discovery has to engage any enemy ships, they won't be able to assist us on the surface. I would recommend deploying the reinforcing away teams on our remaining shuttles, and setting up a casualty collection point in a secure environment." Alex was wary about the Borg's internal communication systems; they had no way if the drones were silently speaking with one another. Weak or otherwise, if they had regained some sense of individualist, no doubt at least some of them would be plotting escape. And the only mode of transportation available was that shuttle outside. "Our sickbay isn't equipped for this number of casualties, if given notice, Kali can arrange for one of the cargo bays to be converted into a holding ward, and," He glanced at the Borg who seemed to be their spokesperson, "another into a mortuary, as a precaution."

After the call disconnected with the Discovery, Alex had spoken up, but Nevir just calmly shook his head.  "Negative.  We don't have the facilities to help them..." he said, gesturing to the broken alcoves.

"Its obvious their biological systems aren't responding.  Which means we need to get their Borg implants back to full strength.  If I'd wager a guess, I think these Borg tried to revert to their biologics without proper deactivation of their implants.  Did you ever hear about the Voyager report?  Their EMH had devised a process for the safe removal of the implants from long term Borg, based on the work from the Enterprise on then Captain Picard.  The Borg become interdependent on their machine parts; it makes sense in a disturbing way.  Our organs sync to a rhythm, but we don't control them.  The Borg has minute control of all their systems."

Nevir took a step towards one of the broken alcoves.  "No, we need to restore both biological and mechanical function for them.  They need that interdependence for the moment... luckily for us, we have one of the few specialists in that regard."

Nevir turned toward Kimball, for the first time really trying to get to know him.  In a way.  "Kimball, you have almost all of your implants, do you still use these alcoves to recharge them?  Or at least remember how they work?"

EQ had just finished moving the statues off to the side when he heard his name.  He had been very careful with them.  Planning to move them back into place later.

Kimball turned back to Nevir, but dropped his head slightly.  It was an uncomfortable question.  One the he had only discussed with the doctor at one point.

"Yes, Sir.  I still use an alcove.  It's basic function is to re-energize the nanites in our bodies which help keep our implants functioning correctly.  Without the alcove the nanites go dormant and the body naturally starts to reject the implant - resulting in infection, disease, and well...death" EQ said.

"In my case, removing my implants was not a very good option. So I need to visit my alcove regularly.  With the right tools and supplies, I could probably fix most of these up" he volunteered.

The Vorta was hearing all this and taking mental notes. He had turned to the Liberated Borg. "I will assist you. If you allow me. Then I will learn more on you and your fellow ones here," he replied. "I will have the crash course on how to help them...."

Then a moment, the Vorta had turned to look at the officers. "I had read that USS Voyager had a Emergency Medical Holo imager. Is it possible we can multiply that image reflector to increase the medical help down here. Instead man power we have holo programs for man power."

It seemed a solution but it was better to have none. It was better to draw invisible straws then none.

"Sure doc, that would be great" EQ said.  He was silent for a moment while he considered the option the doctor presented.  It was a good idea.

"I could probably figure out a way to make that happen" Kimball volunteered.  Then he turned to Tekin.  "With your permission of course, Sir" he added.

"Thank you, Ms. Garrison" Kirok said.  He assumed that Kali would follow suite.  So he stood.  "Agreed" he said to dismiss them.

[Ready Room]

Kirok tapped his combadge.  -/\-We read you, Mr. Tekin.  I'm here with Ms. Reyes and Ms. Garrison.  I will have them begin preparing more people to come down to the planet.  And I will put the ship on full alert.  Kirok out -/\- he said.

"Ms. Reyes, please being organizing additional teams to get down to the planet.  Go heavy with medical personal or anyone with a medical back ground.  Science and Engineer personal should also be sent down.  I'll monitor thing form the Bridge" he said and then motioned toward the door with his chin.

[Ready Room]

Kali remained quite silent about seeing a counselor given her her history with them. She was glad that any response on her part was interrupted by Tekin on the comm and orders finally trickled. While a trip down to the lower decks would have been nice, the monotony of team organizing was just as fine for her.

"Aye, aye," she said on her way out the room.

[Transporter Room]

CINDERELLA's recommended list was fine, but the people on it didn't seem very thrilled at the idea on touching down a planet with Borg running about. After a simple, stern reassurance - the metaphorical boot to arse - she managed to corral a few teams filled with nurses and a couple of science officers with degrees in bioengineering. Only one was excited about meeting sick liberated Borg and, as usual, it was the newest officer.

"Tell the boys I said hi," she said with a non-committal wave as protons and neutrons scattered before her eyes. She then pressed her combadge. "Reyes to away team. You've got reinforcements beaming down at the shuttle's location. Standby."

And did Alex mention something about converting two cargo bays? Kali palmed her hips in the turbolift and shook her head. Great, now they'll have to move even more stuff around!

It was a valid suggestion, and as he looked around, it was clear that they needed more support.  He turned back to the alcove, and turned back.

"No, Kimball, I want your main priority to be these alcoves.  When the engineering team gets here, they are going to need your guidance.  I'd never thought I'd say this, but we need those nanites flowing again." he said, turning to the Doctor.

"However... that isn't to say its not a bad plan.  Doctor, I want you to arrange for some holo-emitters and then work with Sickbay to see if we can transfer a copy of the EMH.  I think we have Mark 2, so I'm not sure how well it will work.  But worse case scenario, we are just looking at more work.  Make it so."

Pretty soon, teams were transporting down, hesitantly, and only went in after seeing that the away team was there, and leading everything. Pleased with the response from this added crew, he went to the communications device, and hailed the Discovery.

The Vorta was glad reinforcement came to help. He had ordered four medical team members to set up Holo emitters for the EMH. The small team first skeptical because of the Borg. One of the young medical spoke up to encourage the others. It was a good move because the Vorta heard the lie in the young medical officer. The Vorta figured he was not scared then everyone who was there. The young officer wore the mask very well. A mental note to put in a good word do that one.

Communicating with sick bay on the Discovery in sick bay. They had agree it would work, they had asked to do s short sync run to double check the program of Mark II design.

The Romulans were part of this, but the Borg had mentioned vulture type species too. He had wondered the Jem'Hadar was that race or possible a whole new race.

It could be worse. The Bree could be working with the Romulans. He had noticed that the Bree was neve part of the Borg collection. He has wondered why or he had not read that article.

EQ offered a nod to the officer.  The division of labor was a good idea.  Have the Engineer fix things and the Doctor fix people.

"Aye, Sir.  I will get to it right away" he said.  He picked up his took kit.  Then looked again over to the doctor.

With the medical teams and engineers working to get the alcoves working again, Alex stayed by his shuttle with more than a little trepidation. Isolated and partially dis-assimilated, these drones were dependent on their assistance, but Alex was wary of returning them to full strength. He still suspected a trap, and wouldn't feel comfortable until they were far from the planet. Romulans in a cube? That was kids play compared to a company of functional Borg drones. Ainsley didn't have enough security down on the planet for the amount of people he was expected to protect.

Worse, if the Borg had any sort of dampening field in the area, which had proven to be standard procedure for their attacks, they wouldn't be able to transport the away teams out. Alex had room for about half of their personnel in the shuttle, which at his best estimate, was as many who would survive the first attack. "Mr.Ainsley," He strolled over to the security officer, speaking in a low conversational tone, "How would you feel about setting up some fallback positions and a perimeter...just in case?"

"My mother of course" Lonar replied.  His mouth piece widened at both ends as if to smile.  He let his response hang in the air for a long moment to allow the full effect of his joke to land properly.

"She hatched me and my siblings.  I was the only one to survive" he added.  "This happened on the planet Tholia in the Xi Hydrea system" he said.

[Bridge]

"From your mother?" The joke caught her off guard as she had only been partially paying attention to what he had to say as she continued to scan the vicinity. As soon as the words left her mouth, she got it and started to chuckle.

"That's a good one."

At least this Tholian had a sense of humor.

She could tell that the two of them were going to get alone just fine working side by side while pulling a long shift.

When the admiral came back into the room, she straightened up her posture and kept her eyes focused on work before her. The smile faded from her face as she listened to his orders.

"Aye sir, I'll take us into that asteroid field right away."

She reversed the thrusters and backed the ship out of orbit with the planet. She made a wide sweep of the nearby asteroid belt, looking for a good opening where she could maneuver around the largest chunks of rock and find a nice and secure place to hide. She adjusted their heading right, then left, then under a large passing rock when she found the perfect spot. From here they were still close enough to the planet that rescuing the away in the event of an emergency shouldn't be too hard, but better yet, the Discovery was adequately hidden in the event that a cube should arrive.
