[Main Engineering]

Back from his trip to the Mess Hall, Nicholas was hard at work repairing torpedo tube 1. The hydraulic loading system seemed to jerk back downwards every time it was used.
This had two possible explanations: computer glitch and dislocated equipment.
It turns out to be the latter. There was a large steel sheet jammed into the tube's opening. The use of steel here was startling, but less so than the message on it.
It read: "we know you're coming. Get out while you still can."

Bridge

Mikaelson's report was swiftly followed by Mortier's and Jada swore explosively, no longer able to contain herself. 'Nine Hells!' That was all they needed: a busted torpedo tube, some kind of Security issue, and insubordination on the Bridge in the middle of a fight with Jem'Hadar. When it rains, it pours. She faced Mikaelson, ordering without using imperatives in the weird way she had, however firmly, 'Ensign, you found it, you may check it out. You may take your Security team.' she indicated the two at the back. As long as Masters stayed out of the way, she figured he wouldn't be an issue. If he was, she'd throw him off the Bridge herself.

'Captain, torpedo tube 1 is malfunctioning. We're down to two until we get this sorted.' she formally informed Rellek, feeling bitterly embarrassed that they'd be unable to fight at their best.

Bridge

Grimacing at the overheard exchange, Jada wondered if every battle they went into would be accompanied by as much as conflict on the Bridge. Maybe it was the stress and fear of battle that set them on edge. Maybe it was in the nature of the Tempest for the atmosphere to be so stormy. But it was never what they needed in combat. (Fortunately the Jem'Hadar had pounced prematurely; they had some time.)

If Masters had been in her own department, her reaction would not be nearly as patient as K'lizh's. If he had been in her own gang back home, she probably would have beat the green out of him. She'd butted heads with Masters during the Mirror Universe attack, and felt him to be stubborn (a common complain among humans). She wasn't aware of his other issues, and assumed he was human. But she knew enough about people to recognise tunnel vision, obsession with the one problem before you when stress clouded all else. Her Starfleet mentor had told her worse horror stories, and she'd survived a court martial. It was better to keep options open.

The two Security crewmen were on standby for a senior officer to give the word to haul him off, but it was Jada who offered a life-line. 'We need someone to monitor weapons power flow.' she announced pointedly, putting the opportunity out there, hoping it would be picked up.

[Bridge]

As the Jem'Hadaar vessels approached their position they opened fire without hesitation. "K'Lizh, increase power to forward shields. Jada, return fire let's see if we can disable them." She sat back in her chair as she braced for additional impact. "What the hell is going. There is a damned treaty... we are approved to be in this region. Lieutenant Galloway, evasive action." Julia ordered as she settled in for the fight.

"Aye Ma'am!"

Ian responded without hesitation as he applied full power to ventral port and starboard dorsal thrusters. The asymmetrical force applied by the opposed burst of power caused the Tempest to stand on her starboard side. The unexpected maneuver from a ship of the Galaxy-Class enabled the ship to turn in a much tighter arc than her designers ever imagined. This took the Tempest completely out of the Jem'Hadar's line of fire. Once in the clear, Ian reversed the maneuver to give Jada a clear shot at the starboard most Dominion attack fighter.

"Ye will not be rammin' us ya bleedin' Beacharn!"

He snarled softly as he waited for tactical to fire.

'Aye, captain.' Jada acknowledged with relish, charging phasers and fixing targeting reticules on the oncoming Jem'Hadar's engines. All worry and doubt fell away, she was focused on this task, making sure of it, like the bya-chee bird before striking. She maintained a lock through the stomach-flipping evasive manoeuvre, and when Galloway brought them back around, now facing the fighters' port sterns, she fired phasers at the starboard fighter, hoping to knock it out of the sky.

James had been in his office filling out reports when the Red Alert was sounded. He immediately jumped up, grabbing and putting on his jacket as he quickly headed the Bridge.

As he stepped on he instantly noticed what he identified as old Jem'Hadar fighters on the viewscreen. Not wishing to disrupt the rest of the crew, he silently approached the new Ensign and quietly asked, "Report?" He would have asked Jada but he knew she needed to concentrate.

Although it was a tense situation Julia was relieved to see her faith in Jada had not been misplaced. Placing an enlisted crewman as Chief of Security was not an ordinary assignment but Jada had proven herself time and time again. She noticed a change in course of the last Jem'Hadaar vessel in the formation. It turned about and the bow locked onto the bridge of the galaxy vessel. "Jada!" Julia shrieked as she saw the vessel incoming and accelerating.

K'lizh was already managing the ship's power systems, direction flow, pumping as much power from unnecessary systems as he could into the shields. The holo-grid-- no one should be using those anyway right now. Artificial gravity was reduced in the cargo bays—everything should be strapped down in there for just such a precaution. The captain's scream made him look up—and clutch his console before he buried his face into his work and pumped more power--not to the shields, but the ship's maneuvering thrusters, placing his faith in Galloway. K'lizh feared death, but he was not one to freeze up in the face of it. He was descended from predators, and he would be no prey to the Jem'hadar.

'On it.' Jada acknowledged curtly, already tracking the fighter. Suicide runs were familiar to Orions, they were an honoured tactic. She just didn't understand what this Jem'Hadar could possibly have to die for. But it was him or them, and if he was so willing to die, then she had no guilt in obliging.

Switching targets, she quickly got a new lock and fired twin phasers at the onrushing fighter. But the enemy craft weaved about both axes, dodging the blazing orange beams. It was getting close. Hissing, Jada divided her phaser locks: one still on the fighter, the other circling it by a short distance. Closer now. She fired again, the Jem'Hadar veered aside, right into the path of her second phaser. Too close.

The fighter exploded in orange flame and purple plasma, twisted debris and one spinning Jem'Hadar body, off the dorsal bow, Moments later, a muffled rumble was felt through the floor and heard from the roof above. Jada bared her teeth in an exultant grin. 'No worries, captain. Shields down 8%, minor hull scoring.'

Ian saw the Jem'Hadar begin its suicide run. "Tha an h-a-mhàin deoc cò bod nas-fheàrr na bò mhair bò bhràmair!"  He swore savagely as he keyed commands to the thrusters. Ian could see Jada's initial shot miss as he prepped the Tempest for the most unorthodox maneuver he'd ever tried and hoped that the old girl was up for it.

However, his preparations proved unnecessary as Jada destroyed the Jem'Hadar before they could complete their attack. As the Tempest bounced through the debris of the destroyed fighter, he kept his panel configured for maximum thruster use as there were still two more attackers out there and either, or both, could try to ram just as easily as the first one had tried.

Ian kept his eyes riveted on the remaining Jem'Hadar fighters and in one of the never ending examples of the unpredictable nature of the brain and memories, a snippet of an old 2D film popped into his head causing him to softly whisper as he forced the massive Galaxy-class ship to come about.

"One step short of disaster. They're quick, I'm much faster."

"That was a little too close for comfort." Julia said as she stood up trying to shake the overwhelming sensations that accompany near death situations. "Good flying, Lieutenant. Thank heavens for having one of the best pilots in the fleet." She added with a crooked smile. She looked up on the screen and watched as the three ships headed into the atmosphere of the fifth planet of the system. "Damnit, they are trying to level the playing field. They know we wont be as agile in the atmosphere. Ian, stay with them. Jada, try to get a few shots in. See if we can disable one of them. And Naga, what info can you get us on that planet. Commander Hawk, check in with engineering."

Julia stepped up behind K'Lizh, she couldnt shake the feeling that something wasnt right here. "K'Lizh, get some more detailed scans of those ships. Something isn't right here. Let's see what we can find out." She said while tapping the back of his chair.

He coaxed a little more power into the sensors before analyzing the data they brought in. "Captain, I'm reading... these ships seem to be leaving chroniton waves in their wake. Rylu, can you confirm?" he forwarded the data to Naga's station.

Three fighters remaining. Intent on her prey, Jada fired a scattering of shots at the fighter's sterns as they dove down the gravity well, hoping to hit them before they entered the atmosphere, which would obscure sensors and limit manoeuvrability. She was targeting weapons and engines as a matter of preference; it was only a matter of getting lucky enough for one to be disabled for capture. 'Aye, cap'n.' Jada confirmed, feeling glad. She felt a flyting coming on, but the battle wasn't done yet. They'd showed the enemy their flars and won; now the Jem'Hadar fled into hiding, but Jada knew to be wary. A wounded and desperate beast was the most dangerous prey of all. 'This could be a trap.' she warned softly.

"Aye Ma'am, and thank you."

Despite the serious nature of their current situation, Ian beamed at the captain's praise. He was actually more concerned about the loss of sensor resolution than the loss of maneuverability.

"Not like the bloody Jem'Hadar have any experience with P-40s, you want ta get into atmospherics, then let's do atmospherics."

Ian smiled as he took the Tempest into the atmosphere at a steep angle that would get them below the fighters. Ian was certain they would think a large ship like a Galaxy-class would be cautious in an atmosphere, so he figured his move would have them looking at the wrong altitude, which would leave their ventral shields wide open to attack. As he dove he spoke tersely to K'lizh at Ops who could reroute the power he knew he would need.

"I'm goin' ta need every joule of power you can transfer ta the thrusters and structural integrity. It would also be a good idea ta boost the inertia dampeners as well, this is goin' ta be a wild ride."

"This could explain a lot." Julia conjectured. "Lets hold position here, Lieutenant. I want to figure out what we're dealing with before we go chasing them into that atmosphere. Chief Jada try to keep track of them. Odds are we're going to have to go get them." Julia was eager to hear the report from the chief science officer, regarding the chroniton waves. She was starting to wonder if the quesiton wasnt where these soldiers came from but when they came from.
