Ian heard the report from engineering and entered the necessary commands in preparation to move the ship.

"Ready ta move on yer order Ma'am. You know once we get this boggit off of us, perhaps we can beam over a hitchhiker's guide ta this galaxy. Might keep it off the hulls of other ships."

Julia kept her eyes fixed on the viewscreen as she leaned forward slightly. "Do it." She said simply. She held her breathe watching for the results.

Ian engaged thusters at one quarter to slowly back the ship. He could feel the vibration as ship pulled against the mass of the universe. Like any good pilot, Ian could sense how the ship was operating by sound and vibration. In this case, he could tell the Tempest was hurting.

"Engines are already at 100% of load. I can hold this level of thrust for..." He glanced at his console. "For 90 more seconds."

Just as Ian made this comment, the Tempest lurched sharply, forcing him to bring the ship back under control as it started to accelerate to the one quarter speed he'd input. When the pocket universe was visible on the viewscreen, he stopped at fifty kilometers distance.

"It looks like our guests have figured out they have overstayed their welcome. Ma'am, we are free ta navigate at yer discretion."

Julia watched as the small universe slowly drifted from their hull and started moving into space. She breathed a sigh of relief and sat back in her chair as the universe safely departed. "Good work." She said with a smile.

[Main Engineering]

Nicholas saw power readings return to normal, and noticed alarms suddenly stopping. This happened even though he couldn't recall sending out a single EMP.
"I'm getting old," he muttered as he watched the mini-universe drift away.
Now, of course, was no time to ponder his life choices.
Cadet, he  called out to the young Aurelian, restore the EPS back to normal parameters. I'll run a diagnostic on the nacelle and see the extent of the damage

Main Engineering

Jada had been focused on managing the EPS power distribution, phasing in the fusion power during the lulls and switching it out during the peaks, while Mortier reduced power demand across the board. Since when did I become an engineer? she wondered in despair at this tedious task. But it wasn't exactly engineering, she decided, more like the kind of economic management Orions had a knack for. 'EPS fluctuations 13%, 5%...' she reported coolly.

But no sooner had she reduced the EPS fluctuations to tolerance levels, then they started to rise again. 'EPS fluctuations rising 31%!' Of course! The mini-universe had detached, it was no longer draining power from the nacelle. The EPS network had been working overtime to supply power; now it was supplying too much. The system was surging, through the nacelle and back out into the rest of the ship. But thankfully Mortier and V'kee had reduced power demands and unnecessary supply, and Jada quickly disengaged the back-up fusion power. 'Disengaging fusion power...' Now the EPS power levels rose steadily back to the specified levels. 'EPS fluctuations 1.54%, well under tolerance.' she reported with relief. Wait. There was no way her job was going to be repeating what the computer said. 'I fixed it.'

She sat back from the chair with relief. It wasn't every day one was attacked by a whole universe. They''d escaped, but Jada couldn't help but think they'd been lucky it was so easy. They were still in the Outer Dark, there were worse things out here yet.
