Nayeli del Bosque - Reporting In (22nd of March, 2017)

Character Details

Character Name: Nayeli Amaya Altamirano del Bosque
Character Age: 35
Character DOB: November 18th, 2360
Character Image:
Character Species: Human
Gender: Female
Character Family:
Aida Consuela Altamirano del Bosque, mother
Isaac Thiago del Bosque, father

Daniel Thiago Altamirano del Bosque, brother
Character Bio:

Nayeli del Bosque was born in Tumacacori, Arizona. Her mother, Aida, is an artist of some renown, known mostly for her metal sculptures, though a few of her paintings have also drawn critical acclaim. One of her most famous works, Girl with Fawn, is an oil painting which features a 13 year old Nayeli holding one of her father's patients, a white tailed deer fawn. Her father, Isaac, a some what less prominent figure, is a veterinarian. As a young man he had always held a fascination with exotic animals from far off worlds and dreamed of exploration and discovery, but his father's early death and mother's fragile health meant added responsibilities as the eldest son. After finishing his doctorate he returned to Tumacacori , where he was born, to tend to his families small ranch. He doctored everything from horses, to gerbils, to wild animals found wounded, and at any given time there could be any number of creatures being rehabilitated beneath their roof. Between her parents, her brother, her grandmother, dozens of Aunts and Uncles, cousins of various degrees and a veritable menagerie of animals coming and going at any given time, their house was rarely quiet.

Calm and pensive by nature, Nayeli often found solace in the outdoors, a passion she shared with her father. He taught her how to cut a trail, find water in the desert, read the tracks of animals and men in the dust. In her adolescence they often took long hikes together, and he introduced her to mountain climbing and spelunking, though his knees weren't long up to the challenge. In high school she took up long distance running, marathons, and would wake early in the morning before the sun rose and the heat set in. She isn't competitive in the traditional sense; the competitions she chose were always against herself, the elements, the clock. They required mental discipline and fortitude. As a student she excelled through natural talent and that same discipline, spending hours studying in the places where she struggled. She graduated at the top of her class to no ones surprise. Though an outstanding athlete and talented student, she had few friends. Socially she struggled, feeling awkward in her own skin, overshadowed by her mother's fame, her families eccentricity and her own long, lanky frame, which earned her the nickname Scarecrow.

The decision to study medicine was an easy one. Having spent countless hours helping her father in his practice, and spending countless others with her grandmother as she struggled with her health gave her a deep respect for the art and science. Compassion and curiosity were driving forces. In medicine she could both help others, and indulge her need for intellectual challenge. One never knew what might be coming through the emergency room door, as her residency proved. After she finished medical school, she would apply to the Starfleet Academy. She had a plan. She had the will. And everything seemed to be working as anticipated. She even had a long term relationship that she managed to maintain through all the ups and downs of managing a heavy work load and often long distances.  They planned to marry before she left for her first duty station.

Coming from the competitive world of medical school to the competitive world of the Academy was only a slight shift. Many of the cadets were far younger than herself, for one. But after 14 years of post secondary education, what was a few more? She felt as though her maturity and experience gave her a distinct advantage over the younger trainees, many of whom were wet-behind-the-ears kids who had never left home before. But the experience was also a humbling one, as in many respects they were also on the same level.

After graduation, there was only one thing left to do. The wedding had long since been planned, the invitations sent, the dresses made, the venue booked, the non synthetic alcohol stock piled, and on the big day, the culmination of all her meticulous planning, in front of 200 of her closest friends and relatives and future colleagues....her fiancee didn't show up. He later explained that he had misgivings for a long time, that he wanted a real partner, not an absentee wife that would be light years from earth half the time. Her grandmother consoled her, Mi ija, you don't have to have a husband to have children. You don't have to die alone. Very forward thinking of her, and yet not at all consoling. Nayeli encouraged the guests to drink the wine and eat the food, since it was already prepared, and left for her duty station thoroughly sombered by the experience.

Previous Role-Playing Experience: I've been rping for a ridiculously long time. Everything from DnD to WoD to MUSHing, to plain old text based collaborative story telling
Department Preference: Medical
Secondary Department Preference:Science
Commissioned, Enlisted or Civilian: Commissioned

Sample post:
The door automatically hissed shut behind her, the spartan quarters dimly lit, for which she was grateful. With the chief medical officer on a leave of absence, she and her remaining colleague had been splitting 12 hour shifts. It reminded her of her days as a resident in a trauma ward, earth side, only that was eight years ago when she was considerably younger. In the darkness of the room she gathered enough wits and energy to untie her shoes and place them tidily under her bunk before laying down on the unforgiving mattress, which at that moment felt like heaven. Let her roommate find her comatose in her uniform, for all she cared. She thought absently about taking off her socks, which were slightly sticky with sweat, but that seemed like too much effort.

Her eyes slid shut.

A claxon sounded, red lights flashing. Her eyes immediately flew open. Attention. This is the captain speaking. All hands report to stations. I repeat, all hands report to stations. A sudden burst of adrenaline sent her into action, grabbing her shoes from beneath the bed and quickly shoving them onto her feet. It seemed like there'd be no sleeping anytime soon.
