Refit Changes

The USS Athena-A is an Intrepid refit designed to be a testbed for new technologies. This means the ship has an abundance of "swappable" modular system blocks.

(Experimental) Borg Adaptive Shield Matrix: Backwards engineered from the Tactical Borg Cube the Athena encountered the adaptive shields of the Athena-A can approximate the adaptive defense shields of the borg for a short time. The energy and computing requirements of this shielding are so high that it consumes the majority of the Athena-A's effort while in use. In computer scenarios it has lasted for 1-3 minutes before catastrophic energy cascades blew out major power management systems.

Expanded Lab Space: The Athena-A boasts larger and better equipped module research space. These three environments can be precisely controlled to reflect the needs of the projects. Each of these lab spaces comes equipped with holographic support and doubles as advanced holodeck.

Next Gen. Organic Computing: The Athena-A uses advancements made in gel pack technologies to create a synaptic relay system distributed throughout the ship. This next generation computing system has two to three times the computing power of a standard Intrepid class. This, when combined with the advanced sensory equipment of a ship of this class, makes it a perfect choice for scientific missions as well as fulfilling its role as a research and development testbed.

(Experimental) Borg Transwarp Accessibility: Theoretically, the Athena-A has the ability to tap into Borg transwarp conduits and safely pilot thought but this has not yet been tested sufficiently.
