Improve On...Posting Format

In the third of our series looking at personal development, we're focussing on Shadow Fleet's preferred posting format and what you can do to ensure your posts are clear, interesting and easy to read.

Posting format is always an important part of an RPG community such as ours as it not only keeps all posts consistent, but also makes it easier for the reader to read and respond. The preferred posting format can be found in the forum help files. Though not compulsory, we would ideally like all members to stick to the basic "quote/description/speech" layout as really does make the narrative and dialog flow well within a mission. It also gives you a basic structure to work to should yoube unsure of what to post.

Don't forget to quote!

When writing your posts, it's also a good idea to vary the text you use. For example, instead of using the word "said", why not use a more imaginative word like "explained" or "suggested"? You can extend this to words within context of the post. For example, instead of constantly referring to another officer by their name, you could use "...approached the Lieutenant, who" or "...watched the Engineering Officer with eagle eyes." There are many ways in which you can vary your posts and by just spending a few seconds thinking about it before you click "Post", you're sure to think of many.

There's always an alternative!

By following these simple tips, your posts are sure to end up interesting, imaginative and easy to read for other players. Stay tuned for further personal development articles, coming soon.

Another good idea is to study past present and future tense, sometimes it is easy to get stuff mixed up... just another area to look at :)
