Ladies and Gentlemen of the Fleet,

Recently you may have noticed several changes to the Command staff of Shadow Fleet, in particular on the USS Churchill. Admiral Brown gave up the center seat, in favor of taking up a different project. Initially the intent was to restructure Starfleet Intelligence, but after some considerable thought, it was decided to scrap the SFI idea. In place of Intelligence, we have decided to launch a Starbase SIMM. The SIMM will be known as Starbase Horizon and will be the space HQ for Shadow Fleet.

The idea behind SB Horizon is a similar theme to DS9 and will bring the Federation into contact with a species called The Heearn. The Heearn like the Bajorans want to join the Federation, but like most civilizations, the Heearn must overcome some obsticles. Horizon will be situated in the Heearn system, it has been placed at the invitation of the Heearn Sovereign and it will offer a wide range of services.

There will be more information to follow soon.

Players can apply to join SB Horizon, but rather than being a Starfleet crew member, players will have the option to join as a Civilian.

Civilians will be more or less exclusive to the station and their jobs will include.

  • Entertainment - Bars/Casino's etc
  • Merchant - Shopkeepers/Eating Establishments
  • Security - Some duties on the station, main duties on the surface of Heearn 3
  • Miners/Prospectors - Heearn 3 is a mineral wealth treasure chest
  • Haulage - Freight/Passengers
The Businesses will include a Manager, which is the same as a DH. In the case of Haulage, their leader will be a Captain. The businesses will be monitored, as not to have too many of one thing.

Admiral John Brown will be the Station Commander, his First Officer will be Vice Admiral T'Ra Jones.

Further assignments will follow shortly. In the mean time if you would like to join this new SIMM, please contact either John Brown or Mike Anderson, who are currently working on the application process.

Hopefully this will wet your appetites

Er...didn't we try this once already, to no avail? What will make this place different than the Magellan?

Why do you wait and see what Happens!

Archangel Koris

Well, stick Roseth's name on one of the spots on the Promenade!  I think she's likely to be more suited to that than her current position.

Because I care about this Fleet, John. How many resources and how much time was sunk into the Magellan only to have it founder? I seem to recall there was big talk about bringing back a former Fleet luminary to head up some department or another. His ID card was made but the last time he logged in was in 2012.

I don't mean to sound so negative, but is this really the kind of thing we should be attempting right now? We all know the admiralty is busy. Maybe too busy to post in a new SIMM. And we are going to be assigning new players here, correct? I had a situation a while ago with the Magellan where a new player was not satisfied with the blatant lack of activity on that starbase. I've been in that situation before, on the old Gettysburg, and I don't want to see anyone else go through that. Especially not a new player who could have just as easily up and quit, like so many did on the old Getty.

Gabriel Arthur

...let's hold off on the comparisons to unrelated projects that, for their own separate reasons, didn't pan out, hmm?

I'm for it.  I'll make a civvie.

It wasn't in my day. Far from it, as some will still remember.

If the admiralty and others can keep up with posting I suppose it's a safe place for new players to be assigned. I don't want a repeat of the Magellan, is all.

How exactly is it unrelated? It's just a different name, different story. Same base model. Well, I will concede that it's a different Fleet now. Hopefully that will be the deciding factor.

In any case, I will support and help the Horizon in any way I possibly can, short of making a new character. This isn't an option for me these days. If I can help in any way I will (maybe I should have opened with that, lol.)

Archangel Koris

Well, let's see how it pans out.  Looks like you've got two characters already lined up for civilian duty!

Basically, if it flops, it flops and no harm done.

If it works, brilliant!  We've added a while new posting environment and aspect to the Fleet.

Until then, let's just table the whys and why nots, hmmm?

Absolutely lets look to the future and not the past.

Yes, it says 'announcement' and not 'discussion' in the thread title, too.

:P

...you win this round, Arthur. But I will soon trounce you back to your family farm when I open the discussion thread myself!

No, I'm not going to do that. I'm far too lazy. I've also said my piece, and in the wrong order to boot. As I stated, if things are different now it could very well work. I'll do all I can to make sure that happens.

KAyleah

Please add me as a civillian i have been waiting for something like this.

Cayden McConnell

I think this will pan out. We have a centerpiece for the fleet to work off of. My biggest complaint about a Starbase, is it never moves. The addition of the USS Fleetwood, will add some mobility to the stories. Really looking forward to seeing how it goes.
