[Bridge]
Dylan was on the bridge, manning the engineering station. He'd taken a double shift, giving his other engineers a bit of time off. He had a cup of coffee in his hand, and was monitoring the warp field. Despite the numerous safeguards of the ship to prevent anything going wrong, to Dylan nothing beat the good ol' human eye. He listened to the exchange between the XO and the Helm officer, but didn't find anything worth commenting on. At least, until the sensors were brought up. He didn't speak still, but he pulled up the engineering display for the scanners. He ran a quick diagnostic, which came back with everything working perfectly fine. With no problems detected, he smiled to himself. His crew had been in some tough scrapes over the last few missions, but the downtime, at least Dylan hoped, would keep them occupied and happy.
The general attitude of the Engineers during this voyage was more laid back. There was no reason for Dylan to run them ragged: He knew they'd be ready for crunch time, and he also knew that they'd performed admirably, especially after the stresses of the hull during the last mission. For the hull's part, it'd done beyond what had been expected in it's design. It was something no engineer would ever plan for, but was a fun thing to test, except when there was a serious possibility of being crushed like a tin can at 40,000 feet below sea level.
When it came to the last mission, there was something that irked Dylan. One of the storage bays had been locked out by the Captain. That was irregular enough, but Dylan trusted his Captain. The irksome part, however, was that the cargo bay that had been locked out contained all of Dylan's spare parts, so a de-facto machine shop had been set up in Engineering to make the parts they needed. Thankfully, they had other spares for most parts around the ship, but still it was annoying when a unique part had to be fabricated when there was one less than one ship away, but such was life.
He looked out the viewscreen, sipping his coffee and trying to think when the last time he ate was.
