Tess was pleased to hear about Ambassador Benvinnot's enthusiasm to try all the different ways you can eat calamari. Now that she talked about it she got an appetite for it and she might get herself a serving of it later.

"Where exactly in Italy were you at?" She asked Tess curiously.  "I ask because I visited Sicily when I was at the academy the first time around.  That where I got the idea for the octopus that is being served tonight" she said.

"I lived in Rome with my adoptive father and my brother", she replied readily. "Unfortunately, I've never been to Sicily. I did eat octopus before though. I take it you liked, then?", Tess asked with a smile.

Zex was embarrassed when Benvinnot mentioned the rule against telepathy on the station.  She had not been informed of the rule.  Thus she had never informed Eydis of the rule.

"I'm afraid this may be my fault.  I am new to the station myself and had not been informed of this.  So, I did not know to mention it to Eydis.  Apologies" she confessed.

Eydis tilted hir head a little to the side, shi seemed more perturbed by the strange reaction then sensing the numati. In fact there was no noticeable effect either way. No it was just like hearing a foreign language, the numati pairs telepathic abilities were just evident to the tholians lattice. But it meant nothing to them and it was possible because the unique nature of the tholians and the fact that the tholians did not in fact sleep or dream per day.

Eydis would look to zex and then back bennvinot. I did not wish to give any reason for concern. The lattice is not something that can be controlled or stopped amongst tholians. It just exists and your telepathic presence is alien to us. Indescribable to us by but we are aware of it. I do appreciate your concern and am willing to talk more if you desire. My desire is to add more to the song of my planet and my people. Perhaps the day may come that our song shall be heard by others. And our planet shall be seen by the eyes of others
Eydis would nod to the pair and then Zex and Tess. But then hir glowing eyes found the mate of Tess the one known as Rayek. His behavior was odd to Eydis and his gaze seemed to linger on Tess.
Then the topic of the psionic connections came up Tess for one was glad that the Dord hadn't arrived yet and second was surprised to hear that Zex was unaware of the Numati's telepathic effect. Ever since the experience of the delusions the touch of these psionic species could have new officers arriving on Katra would obligatorily informed about it and how to deal with them. She would need to retrace where the bug in the system had been to avoid for it to repeat. Tess was slightly embarrassed that it came to light right here and now in this way and she felt sorry for Zex as well.

"Apologies", Tess said to both the Numati envoys and to Eydis. "Normally we have protocols that make sure that our staff is informed about these matters. "It's one of my favorite seafood dishes.  The dish that is being served most closely match what I had in Sicily.  I'm already called dibs on the leftovers, but I could be talked into sharing if you decide you like it" she said.

Zex was relieved that Tess was taking some of the responsibility for no telepathy issue.  She hoped the current issue would resolve on its own.  Then they could get back to the party.

The Numati representatives were of course already aware of most of this.  They had been present and thus informed when the Romulan Commander had gone 'rogue' and fired on the Atrosian ship.... and before that though not invited to the wedding, Farinne had sent along the best wishes of the Numati Embassy to the then Commander and his bride.

"I've been meaning to ask when are you do?  But was not certain if it was appropriate." the Numati aide commented after her question.

Rayek meanwhile fought to keep the frown from his face as attention turned his way.

Thankfully that attention shifted as a new song was played helping to announce the next arrivals.

The Deltan left the group and headed directly to President and the Council-woman.  "President Tarin.  Council-woman Keshara, thank you both for joining us" Zex said sincerely.

A curious custom to be sure , but not to far off our own customs Eydis would make several squealing clicks and chirps. And shi turned to watch who zex and the song introduced. More strange faces to remember. Eydis looked to hir XO Absol for a second as they had a sharing of thoughts about the odd collection of beings around them. The tholians lattice was something that couldn't be shut off it was a natural occurring WiFi like connection involving the haramonics of their crystalline bodies and harmless radiation both of which they could modulate to speak with each other. Absol would chide his young captain a little not malicious but like one might to do help one lacking expirence.  Eydis would nod hir head realizing the point made by hir xo Absol. Off course shi should be observant and less frivolous and amused by the beauty and music of the room. Key figures were being introduced after all

The Deltan left the group and headed directly to President and the Council-woman.  "President Tarin.  Council-woman Keshara, thank you both for joining us" Zex said sincerely.

The arrival of the Meridan leaders - both current and former - drew Rayek's attention.  Rayek had been originally discouraged when Tarin had been announced as the Meridian President.  The man had seemed overly manipulative to Rayek; but in the year since Tarin's election, Rayek found that he'd grown accustomed to the man.  Though he did wonder at how Solluk had convinced the President to accept the thousands...possibly hundreds of thousands of Etrosian refugees on the planet.

He watched as the Deltan left the Tholian Ambassador to greet the newcomers to the Summit.

"Thank you, Zex." replied back the Meridian President.

It surprised Rayek that the man had remembered the Deltan's name until he recalled that the Ambassador may not have been provided the pheromone inhibitor medications that the Romulan himself made sure to make use of.  Jada might not be present anymore but there were others..  like Zex...  Rayek would not take the chance of being manipulated again.

"Good evening to you, Zex.  I see you were with the new Ambassador.  An introduction would be appreciated."  The Council-woman prompted and would follow Zex towards the small group.

The Numati pair repeated their greeting gestures towards the Meridians who in turn simply nodded towards the Numati in return.

"Greetings Ambassador Benvinnot,  Miss Farinne." Keshara spoke up first.

"So glad to see that you could make it Councilwoman Keshara." "Yes, hello.."

The President meanwhile focused his attention on greeting the Starfleet personnel. "Lieutenant Commander Moren... forgive me... t'Lhoell.  It is good to see you.  You are looking well."

The Meridian President offered a slight bow towards Tess then turned to the Deltan officer to await introduction to the newest Ambassador.   The Federation had been selective in what information they provided to Meridian on the Tholian species.   It had been said that they shared what they could but didn't know much... but Tarin doubted that.   He suspected that they were just keeping Meridian in the dark.

Once official introductions were made, President Tarin offered a slight bow. "Welcome to the Trialus system, Ambassador Eydis.  We are so pleased that you and your people are interested in opening up a dialogue with us."

At Farinne's question when she was due, Tess smiled. "It's hard to say with hybrid babies. Romulan pregnancies are longer in duration than human pregnancies. We check regularly on the baby's progression. Right now it looks like it'll be around September." This actually was something that gave Tess more and more anxiety as the pregnancy proressed. She hoped her body would be able to accommodate all the needs a Romulan baby would need.

She was distracted by the arrival of the Meridian ambassadors and greeted Tarin back with a smile. "Thank you, Mr. President", she said in response to his compliment.

From across the room Rayek thought he saw a slight tightening of President Tarin's stance after the Tholian made her hir greeting.  What had the Tholian said to get such a reaction?

The Meridian president responded to whatever the Tholian said "Meridian is hoping to be counted among Tholia's friends.  I am sure there is much we can offer one another.  I look forward to discussing such with you over more official meetings between our people."

Keshara cleared her throat a bit pointedly.   "But that is for another time, President Tarin.  I see Sub-Surchid Jedem, sir.  I believe you had something to discuss with him did you not?" the councilwoman interrupted the conversation and drew attention elsewhere.

This interruption was keenly noticed by Farinne who was sorely tempted to remark on it mentally to Benvinnot but the Ambassador was a stickler for following the Federations rules to the letter.   She would either have to wait until they were back at the Embassy to share with him her thoughts on the interaction or speak them allowed.   She sighed.  She would share with him later.

Benvinnot followed Keshara's distraction and looked over to where the Wadi ambassador was at the buffet table.   "Seems I should go stake my claim to those calamari before they are all gone."

He was about to ask what would be of interest to the Tholian then realized in an almost startling discovery that the Tholian though present couldn't really join in any of the foods offered.  Not only would they most likely make hir ill, but with hir environmental suit shi couldn't actually interact with anything.   It was a divide that seemed rather daunting.  How does one find common ground with such difference.  He certainly had his work cut out for him.

Sometime is was what you did that counted more than what you said.  Her job was simple to make introductions.  From there new relationships had the opportunity to bud and grow.

The Deltan could not help but smile at Benvinnot comment about the callamari.  She followed his gaze over to the buffet line and noticed that Wadi ambassador.  She consider going over to greet him, but thought better of it at the moment.  Instead she stayed near Eydis.

hmm reactions can vary amongst humanoids. But then I can't be to hasty to judge from a single interaction with any humanoid. Many might view us with misunderstandings Eydis would say to zex.

I will admit to having my own misgivings about humanoids . But now it's just oddities to me now. I have not lived the of the humaniods so I can not judge them. The Deltan was a bit puzzled.  Perhaps she missed something when she went to greet the new arrivals. But now was not the time for such questions.

Zex nodded.  "It is true that responses can very to a stimulus.  But I find this true of any sentient species.  You are right though.  It is problematic to use a single interaction to determine true nature of any person" she added.

She could not help but giggle, herself.  "I'm already working on an idea to get us on your ship.  But, I never considered that you would considered yourself similar to Vulcan's.  Is that because you supress your emotions?  Or both prefer hot arid planets?  Or something else?" she asked.

Tess tLhoell

Lt. Cmdr. Tess t'Lhoell (6 months pregnant)
[Katra Station - Aqua Lounge]

Tess really enjoyed this diplomatic gathering. It was one of the rare occasions the ambassadors of all the embassies on the station could meet and interact with each other while this was rather not the common practice in the day-to-day business.

Howerver, the change of her condition brought the gathering to a sudden end for her. Nausea came back and she felt tired and just like crawling into bed.
She made sure to stay for a little while longer before she excused herself to the ambassadors and to Captain Solluk, intending to leave.

Before she did, she glanced over to Rayek and tried to make it clear that he didn't need to worry.

(OOC, Sorry guys, can't keep up with the holodecks, gonna cut this one down.)

Zex notices Tess leave.  The evening had gone well.  But ultimately people needed to call it a night and head home at some point.

So, the Deltan returned to her original spot at the door.  Thanking people for coming.   And wishing them a good night.

(OCC - no worries, we can end her if you all like ;-)
