Jedem listened with interest while he followed with his eyes where Zex was pointing at. "You make it sound like a challenge." He gave the Deltan a smile. "I shall try some of it." With that he walked off and approached where Solluk stood with Vilka, offering both of them the same greeting gesture.

Tess watched the Sub Surchid walk off to meet Solluk and the Klingon female when Tess was distracted by the arrival of the Tholian envoy. Tess had not met hir as yet, so she smiled at her in anticipation of an opportunity to introduce herself. When Zex entered with hir, Tess took a step forward. Admittedly, the sight of the Tholian was something to getting used to since it very much resembled Terran spiders. But Tess tried to look past that. "Good evening, ambassador", Tess addressed Eydis. "I am Lt. Commander Tess t'Lhoell, the station's Executive Officer. It is a pleasure to meet you. I have heard that your quarters and offices needed some special adjustments to them and hope that everything is satisfactory for you."
Shortly after Tess noted the arrival of the Numati ambassador with his aide. Tess had mixed feelings about the Numati. They were no doubt always kind and friendly and she also knew that two of them were not enough to influence other people's minds. But the event of being under a delusion caused by the greeting touch of that species lingered in the back of her mind ever since.

Nonetheless, Tess turned to them with a bright smile. She had noticed the somewhat worried looks of them and Tess believed to know why that was - the Dord were not fond of telepaths and that was what the Numati were. "Ambassador, it's nice to see you here tonight", Tess greeted him, making sure to keep some distance so they wouldn't accidentially touch her forehead in greeting. Instead, Tess offered to shake their hands. "And you too, Miss Farinne", Tess added. She glanced over to Zex with a smile should she be free to greet the new arrivals. Tess as XO and as CMO had made sure that all new personnel were briefed about how to interact with the Numati and that touches to the foreheads by them were meant as a greeting but could cause delusions and were to be avoided.

As Tess and the Wadi entered the room, a soft announcement started.  "Please help us welcome Sub Surchid Jedem of Wadi" it said.  Then the introduction music he had chosen before that party played.

Finally Eydis tentatively almost like a child reaches out her right hand to open her covered digits and close them lightly around the elbow of the deltan. Even through her environment suit, she could feel although muted by the suit. Eydis has come to believe most organic bipedal humanoids were soft and squishy. Zex noticed that Eydis was being very gentle.  Like a child touching an animal for the first time.  Trying to gauge how much pressure might hurt the smaller being.

"No, I'm fine.  Where you touched me is a hard spot" she said.  "Would you prefer I grab your hand instead?" she asked.

"And before we enter I want you to know that your favor song will play and you your name with be mentioned.  So, people my turn to look.  But these are people who are interested in meeting you and knowing you" she added to help prepare the Tholian for what would happen next.

He watched keenly as Zex approached the Tholian Ambassador and offer hir her arm in escort.  He would not have expected that.   With the Tholian being attended to Rayek turned his attention back to roving over the others present... the Captain, Vilka, Jedem... Tess.

There was very little shared experience with which to make understanding and cooperation work with the species.

Following the arrival announcement of the Wadi and then the Tholian Ambassadors, when the Numati ambassadorial party had entered, their names were announced and a song was played.  This was a piece of music that Farinne had forwarded on to Zex after receiving the request for an entrance song.

Benvinnot glanced over to his Aide in surprise at hearing the few chords.  "A small piece of home.  How wonderful."

Movement of the Lounge doors drew his attention and he noted the two Numati staff arrive.  Ambassador Benvinnot and his aide Farinne.  Rayek made sure that his mental shields were tight and observed the pair as they accepted a drink from a passing Hospitality staff who greeted them with an offer of a selection from his tray.

Of course, his Tess would be the first to greet the Numati pair, and he watched as she offered out a hand towards the Ambassador.   Rayek frowned.   Since the species were touch telepaths, rather similar to Vulcans, he wondered if they could perceive thoughts through simple hand contact?

He did know that their dream-state mental connection that caused so much problems last year, required more than mere physical contact.  It required intent to connect openly and that was what these two had sworn to avoid due to the incompatibility of the mind-scape of most Alpha and Beta Quandrant species.   Idly, he wondered what if any affect the Numati mind might be on a Tholian.  Rayek seriously hoped he never had to find out.

It was Benvinnot that accepted the hand-shaking gesture first.  "Thank you for the kind welcome, Commander.  Did we arrive too early? I don't see many of the others present."

Farinne forewent the hand-shake and merely did their socially acceptable 'distanced' forehead touch.  Raising a hand to place at her heart then to her forehead before dropping her hand in front between them palm up as if gifting something.

Rayek had watched the gesture alertly to be sure no contact was made between Farinne and his wife.

Looked from zex to Tess and tilted hir head a bit "Tess it commander of the federation." Shi repeated the name and then gave Tess a bow of hir head as shi listened to zex explain what would happen next. "I understand zex the deltan. Thank you for attention and the music it is most welcomed."

"OK then.  Here we go" she said.  A soft voice came threw the com system and interrupted what was currently going on.  "Presenting Eydis of Tholia" it said.  Then walpurgisnacht started to play.

"Tess of the federation is also our chief medical officer.  And one of my closest friends on the station" Zex said by way of introduction.  "I will take you to sickbay at some point so you know where it is" Zex said.

"Eydis of Tholia is from the warrior class.  Shi likes holodeck adventures like most of use do.  I will take you to the Tholian embassy at some point so that you can meet with Eydis privately at some point if you like" she added for Tess' benefit.

Turning her head she then gestured to where Zex was with Eydis, the Tholian.

She made a mental note to herself to actually do that.

At Zex' offer that she could arrange a meeting for Tess with the Tholian envoy, Tess was glad that she managed to keep the unease off her face. It might not be right, but something about the Tholian species she found disconcerting.

Tess then turned to the Numati she was still standing with. "May I make introductions", Tess said. "This is Ambassador Bennvinot and Miss Farinne, his aide." She then turne to Bennvinot. "Ambassador, this is Ensign Zex and the Tholian envoy, Eydis."

Tess glanced back to Rayek. She was a little sad that he had to keep himself in the background and couldn't just join them.

Zex looked from Eydis to Tess when the medical officer responded.  She nodded in agreement to Tess' statement about the sickbay.  She smiled at the compliment.  "Thank you" she said.

Then she turned to the Numati.  "Welcome Ambassador Bennvinot.  Miss Farinne.  I hope you are enjoying the event.  Have you found a new favorite food yet?" she asked.

Benvinnot followed Tess' glance towards the buffet table where the others she named were gathered.  Food sounded good to him.  He was about to suggest they head that way as well when the music changed and the Tholian Ambassador was announced.   His aide Farinne had briefed him earlier on the species.  A crystaline-like octo-limbed species that had environmental needs that necessitated a specialized suit in order to move about the station.

He discreetly observed the new Ambassador with curiosity up until the Tholian was led their way, to be introduced first to Tess, and then them by the Lieutenant Commander.

The Numati representatives greeted the Tholian ambassador with a slight bow and by touching the gemstones at their forehead in a gesture symbolic of sharing thoughts.  Due to past incidents, the Numati finished their gesture by dropping their gloved hands in front them palm up in symbol of offering.

"Greetings, Ambassador Eydis, Ensign Zex.  I am pleased to meet you both."

At the Deltan's query about food, Benvinnot glanced over towards the seafood buffet table and looked a bit hesitant. "We only just arrived but I was looking forward to sampling the calamari."

Beside him Farinne rolled her eyes before smiling at the two that Tess introduced them too.  "Hello Ambassador.  We look forward to getting to know you and your people more."

Producing the high pitched squealing and clicking sounds before her translate takes over. "Greetings  Commander Tess t'Lhoell I trust zex appraisal of your skill and competence. However tholian physiology is not commonly known. We do prefer to keep our secrets. It is a matter of pragmatism after all.  There exist more humanoid races then those similar to us. We have to practice discernment in all things. But I thank you for the offer and if you wish you may contact my chief medical officer re'siyar  Eydis would nod to Tess respectfully. One of her guards/crew alert hir to the as well did Tess and zex.

" Greetings ambassador bennvinot and lady farinne. Was that you I sense " It was likely the pair could feel the lattice between the five tholians in the room.

"Good choice.  Some people like to squeeze lemon over it before eating it.  Other like to dip it in a red sauce known at ketchup" she said.

Zex watched the man when he gave his greeting.  Out of respect, she repeated the behavior.  She touched her forehead with both hands then lowered her hands palms up.

"Good choice.  Some people like to squeeze lemon over it before eating it.  Other like to dip it in a red sauce known at ketchup" she said.

Benvinnot seem intrigued with the various offered ways of eating calamari. "Perhaps if it is not considered taboo, I will try it both ways."  Farinne gave a soft sigh and shook her head imperceptibly but would let her boss learn his lessons about foreign food his own way.

When the Tholian ambassador spoke questioning if it was them shi sensed... Farinne looked to Benvinnot, who in turn looked to her.   Neither had truly noticed it before now, but at the mention each became aware of a slight telepathic presence.

Fully aware of the restrictions placed on their telepathic abilities with the Treaty agreements his people had been obligated to sign after the incident on the Discovery, Benvinnot was quick to point out to the attending Starfleet officer that they were not actively making contact.

"My apologies Ambassador, I was not aware of the contact until just now." He seemed to focus and whatever contact the Tholian had sensed earlier either disappeared or muted to being negligible, as the Numati pair attempted to reign in their natural abilities.

"Regretfully, Ambassador Eydis, we are not open to such sharing here and now due to agreements with the Federation and Katra Command. However, perhaps if it is amenable to you and if your medical staff is assured of no unfortunate side-effects that most of the Federation humanoids are prone to... then arranging a private meet could possible between our two peoples."

From across the room, Rayek took note of this with interest. Normally, the Numati telepathic powers required contact or a larger group to work in unison but evidently a more powerful telepath opening themselves up could potentially initiate contact with the Numati if the Numati themselves weren't shielding.  This was concerning.  Rayek made sure to shore up his own mental barriers.  The notion of a Tholian traipsing through his mind was not a pleasant thought.

Very discreetly, Rayek tapped his comm badge to forewarn the other security members and the medical officer on duty in Sickbay of a possible breach of Numati telepathic abilities.  He did this because it had been discovered in the First Contact with the species that their dream-state telepathy did not mix well with most Alpha-Beta quadrant species causing delusions that had become rather problematic.  The Romulan had no clue what contact with the Numati mind might do to a Tholian but he figured it was best to take precautions.

"tr'Lhoell to all Diplomatic security teams and Sickbay.  Possible telepathic contact between Numati representatives and Eydis of Tholia. No immediate discernible affliction.  Will continue to observe and report."

Zex was embarrassed when Benvinnot mentioned the rule against telepathy on the station.  She had not been informed of the rule.  Thus she had never informed Eydis of the rule.

"I'm afraid this may be my fault.  I am new to the station myself and had not been informed of this.  So, I did not know to mention it to Eydis.  Apologies" she confessed.

Eydis tilted hir head a little to the side, shi seemed more perturbed by the strange reaction then sensing the numati. In fact there was no noticeable effect either way. No it was just like hearing a foreign language, the numati pairs telepathic abilities were just evident to the tholians lattice. But it meant nothing to them and it was possible because the unique nature of the tholians and the fact that the tholians did not in fact sleep or dream per day.

Eydis would look to zex and then back bennvinot. I did not wish to give any reason for concern. The lattice is not something that can be controlled or stopped amongst tholians. It just exists and your telepathic presence is alien to us. Indescribable to us by but we are aware of it. I do appreciate your concern and am willing to talk more if you desire. My desire is to add more to the song of my planet and my people. Perhaps the day may come that our song shall be heard by others. And our planet shall be seen by the eyes of others
Eydis would nod to the pair and then Zex and Tess. But then hir glowing eyes found the mate of Tess the one known as Rayek. His behavior was odd to Eydis and his gaze seemed to linger on Tess.
Commander Tess, I belive the flat chested sexually dimorphic individual over there. Is concerned and possible finds you a desirable mate. The individual shows particular concern and distress for you from the small little twitches on its face  Eydis would blurt out bluntly as if unable to contain hir observation of Rayek who shi had nodded to.
