Ardyn Jaeger

Ardyn grinned, albeit disappointed that they weren't going to do any sabotage. "Definitely. If you'd like to use my Flyer, I've made some race-worthy modifications to her, and I can easily say she's way faster than any of the other shuttles we have in the hangars. You wanna use it?"

Alex didn't have the heart to tell her that the plan was to use the flyer, even if she hadn't been the one. "Well let's make sure none of those race-worthy modifications are going to fail with the first little jolt." He stood, holding out his hand. "Welcome to the team, Jaeger. Meet me in the shuttlebay after your shift." Alex smiled apologetically. "T'Ra neglected to give us days off. It'll be doubles for a while. Flying to the start line will seem like a vacation by comparison."

"Sounds like a plan." Ardyn said, sighing internally. There went her prospects for that nap she was planning to take after her shift. Well, she could deal.

[Shuttlebay, some time later.]

Ardyn wiped her face, unintentionally smearing a smudge of grease onto her forehead. "How's It look, Wu? Think we can optimize the engine even further?"

"Well we've already bypassed the secondary ODN lines and rerouted the phase inducers to the impulse drive...I don't think we can do anymore and still jump to warp. We'll have to do the rest once we get there. Speaking of..." Alex used his heels to scurry himself out from underneath the flyer as the bay doors opened. "Thanks Rodgers." He nodded at the maintainer who handed two duffel bags over. Tossing them into the open rear hatch, Alex stuck his head back underneath the winglet. "Let's close up, our departure window's shrinking."

Ardyn Jaeger

"Agreed." Ardyn said, closing up the engine hatch. Her stomach was quivering again, one of the various miserable symptoms that afflicted those with her... condition. She was going to have to get one of those hyposprays again to keep it settled until she was alone and then could relieve herself to her heart's content after they lifted off. Getting into the co-pilot's seat, she began inputting in the destination coordinates. "Ready on your signal, Alex."

[Delta Flyer]

Clambering in, Alex hit the hatch seal before stowing the duffel bags more neatly inside one of the storage lockers. It was only after taking the pilot's seat that he realized how quiet it was inside the cockpit; the first time they had been alone since. Ardyn seemed to be rolling just fine with it though, so taking his cue from her prompt, Alex keyed the comms. =/\="Discovery, this is Wu, we're departing now. See you in a week."=/\= Nodding at Jaeger as the anticipatory affirmative and good wishes came back through, he gave her a sidelong smile. "Let's go win a race."

Ardyn Jaeger

Ardyn smirked as the shuttle lifted off, everything running smoothly according to plan. "Oh yeah." She didn't say much as the nausea was returning again. The medicine was definitely wearing off now. Ardy figured the flyer was cruising pretty well, so she excused herself from the cockpit and quickly bolted to the bathroom. Blasted morning sickness.

"Did you want..." Halfway into a sentence asking if Ardyn would prefer to take the second watch so she'd be able to get some rest now, Alex blinked as she ran to the back. Huh, guess that was a yes? Mildly bemused, he turned back towards the console when a glint on the floor caught his eye. An empty hypospray vial. Figuring it must've fallen out of Ardyn's pocket when she had left in haste, he picked it up, intending on returning it to her when she came back to the front. Reading the label out of curiosity, he frowned  Inaprovaline? For space sickness?

Ardyn Jaeger

Having relieved herself, Ardyn fumbled through her pockets for another vial of medicine for the hypospray. That was close. Almost had her little secret revealed there, and to Alex, of all people. Injecting the medicine, Ardyn took a sigh of relief. She glanced at her abdomen. Fortunately, still no signs of the baby showing yet. Returning to the cockpit, she flopped back into the seat.

Glancing over at Ardyn as she sat back down, Alex raised an eyebrow. "You know, you could've gone to the bathroom before we left. I didn't push you that hard, did I? Oh, and here, catch." He flicked the vial to her, a slight smirk playing on his face. "I'm hoping you're not catching a case of space sickness just from leaving the shuttlebay. Our inertial dampeners are good, but not that good, and we only have a few changes of clothes."

Ardyn Jaeger

"Yeah," Ardyn lied, catching the vial. "Wouldn't want that happening." she mused, as she quickly slipped the vial back inside her pocket. "I've been feeling a little off-kilter, so I got the doc to prescribe me something. It's nothing serious. I'll be fine."

"Hmm." Alex turned back to his flight console, not entirely convinced. "Well, patient zero, if I catch whatever you've got by the time we get home, I won't be too pleased with you." Setting the autopilot on and the alarm parameters, he tilted his head towards the back. "Why don't you go get some rest, I'll take first watch. Hopefully you'll be feeling better when you wake up."

Ardyn Jaeger

Ardyn nodded as she headed to the back of the flyer. "Don't mind if I do." She was pretty exhausted, probably because of the little person who was taking up residence in her. "Don't worry, what I have isn't catchable. You're fine."

Well that's an odd thing to say. Alex mused, glancing out at the dilated warp field before pulling out a PADD, intending to review the course map. He had already gone over the race before, seemingly a hundred times, and knew the major course directions off by heart, but that was the way it was designed after all. Wouldn't be very exciting if any of the competitors got lost.

The tricky part was the sections of the race which they couldn't plan a flightpath in advance; the asteroid field, the nebula, the Á¢â,¬Ëœgauntlet'. He still wasn't sure about that last portion, or how much the Flyer would be able to handle before something important got fried. They had both agreed on speed over shields, but Alex was having second doubts. On that, and now Jaeger too.

Sighing quietly, he locked the controls before sliding his seat back, swinging his feet up to rest on the console. It was going to be a long night.

[A few hours later]

Ardyn was tossing and turning. As much as she wanted to get some sleep in, this nausea was still getting the better of her. Blearily, she got up from her nap and went into the bathroom again, throwing up what little she had stomached for dinner. The doc said that annoying symptom would be going away soon. Well, not as soon as she'd like. Groggily going back to bed,she laid down, trying to get the most out of her sleep. It wasn't happening. "I am so freaking done with this all." She mumbled, too tired to really care.
