Character Bio:

Doug was born Dugris Zaman on the El-Aurian homeworld, many years ago. He started out as an architect there, with a particular focus on personal homes.

However, at the age of about 200 years, Dugris decided he wanted to see the universe.
He went to the planet Earth, one of the earlier El-Aurians to do so, and tried to do some listening in Granada.

This strange, pale-skinned man, who seemed both impressively wise in theoretical concepts and remarkably inept in basic life skills, initially lived as a hermit, until the unexpected arrival of the Spanish Inquisition. It was only be the skin of his teeth that Dugris (then known as Juan) escaped burning at the stake. Even El-Aurian medicine of the time could not fix all the physical harm he suffered from the Inquisitors, and Doug retains both poor vision and limited mobility in his left arm to this day.

He spent the next few centuries studying in more developed worlds, developing an understanding of fields as varied as warp theory and quantum physics on one side, and urban planning on the other, before making his second jaunt to Earth in the early 1800s. He started out in the land of Scotland, where he also adopted the given name "Douglas" as an alias of choice. The shorthand thereof, Doug, became his preferred name even amongst his own people. Doug made several jaunts to Earth between then and the late 20th century, observing as humanity made many key discoveries. He could not and did not help them along, but he was there when humans made such major discoveries as the structure of the atom, and such mistakes as the rise of car-dependent suburbia.

In more recent times, Doug has lectured at universities throughout the Alpha Quadrant, while practicing his various trades on the side. He also served in Starfleet during the late 23rd century, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander (OOC: this is also the rank I reached with Judy before she went civilian. I understand that if Doug goes commissioned, it may be at a lower rank. If that is not okay, let me know), and again during the Dominion War. He had intended to stay in Starfleet for a longer second stint, but repeated uniform code violations (misplacing his pips) made Starfleet refuse that offer.

Now, 20 years after, Starfleet has asked Doug to come back, as a civilian science consultant. Apparently, it was short on manpower but long on anomalies, and Doug was happy to oblige.

Sample post:
[Science Lab 4, USS Shran]

Doug straightened his lab coat with his one good arm and looked at the series of test tubes in front of him. He looked onwards to the group of the ship's resident children that had been brought to the lab. With the ship's libraries in the sorry state they'd been reduced to, the best use of all their time was a "science show".

"Kiddos, you're going to want to watch this one, because we're going to make science!" Doug exclaimed. "That liquid is chlorine, and this is sodium and water..."
Doug picked up an object off the table and tried to push it into the test tube. For some reason, it didn't fit, and the kids were giggling.
"That's strange. It's supposed to fit easily."
He looked at it. Instead of the small flask of sodium and water he had prepared, he had a PADD's stylus in his hand.
"Oh, da... Doug it! Doug it! Let's try that again. Science is all about trying, and sometimes you make mistakes."

Additional information: I'm making this alt with the explicit purpose of going on the Shran. If that can be arranged, it's greatly appreciated.

How did you find Shadow Fleet? This is an alt.
