Character Bio:

Personality:
Sharp as a tack is the perfect phrase to describe Charlie. She has a quick mind and a sharp tongue and she never hesitates to use either. She is usually direct, and while she's capable of manipulation and flattery to get what she wants, she does pride herself on her desire to bring "truth" to the masses. Or at least, her idea of it.

Charlie is impatient. It's part of her drive; once she sets her mind to a goal or target she has very little tolerance for anything or anyone who would distract her or keep her from what she wants. She desires to create a legacy. Not one of material or financial significance, but something that endures for its intelligence and potential to change civilisation. Lofty goals, indeed, that she is far, far from even the remote possibility of achieving.

She appears to view herself as being a champion of the people, though she really feels that she cannot get beyond the shadow of her foster father - talented auteur and commentator on Federation current events, and author of the Wake up to Dystopia series, Patrick Delaney. Charlie herself has had no success in gaining notoriety in literary circles, and continues to make her living and way in the universe by supplying news publications with fluff pieces, reviews and salacious "tell-alls". It wasn't until her tenure at The Columbus Post that she started gaining some attention for her articles. Intent on bringing to light the dangers of station living, Charlie targeted the command team of the Starbase Columbus, often writing less than flattering pieces about families being separated and forced to flee during one of their many evacuations. She often urged her readers and viewership to find alternative accommodation.

She likes to write what she knows. Charlie will rarely wade in on a matter she does not have prior knowledge of. She researches and she learns and she does not go into battle unprepared. She can be a bit of a sucker for a cause, especially if she thinks the "little people" are being trod on. She can be like a stubborn dog with a delicious bone when it comes to any perceived imbalance or misuse of power.

She is not quick to anger, but she is slow to forgive. She is also very slow to trust, and does not make friends easily. Everyone eventually leaves, or passes each other up for something or someone better, so what's the point?

Hobbies & Interests:
Reading and writing for pleasure, when she has time and/or inclination. Her sword collection. Yoga to quiet the mind, acoustic song covers to open it. New experiences and people and places that look compelling on camera.

Personal History:
A three year old toddler was found alone and terrified on Solosos III shortly after two quantum torpedoes with a 400 kilogram payload of trilithium resin were launched into the atmosphere, rendering the planet uninhabitable for its human colonists. There had been no record of the child when Starfleet relief had finally arrived, and no sign of her parents. She was taken into the temporary custody of Dr. Liam Fox, a member of Rescue Team Charlie.

Dr. Fox, by way of Deep Space 9, saw the child brought to Earth, specifically his home of London, UK. There he tried to locate the young foundling's kin, or any biological connection, tenuous or otherwise. Her origins and birth remained a mystery, unfortunately. With no experience in raising children, and a job that took him out of system at a moment's notice, Liam Fox did not believe he would be an appropriate guardian for a little girl. With that decision made, young Charlotte "Charlie" Fox was slated to spend her formative years in several foster homes.

She herself would tell you that none of them treated her poorly, in fact, she'd had an alright childhood considering her origins. But she was a surly child and a precocious, willful teenager, and a few kind foster parents, while meaning well, weren't at all sure what to do with her. That was until she met the Delaneys.

Well-known author Patrick Delaney met Charlie when she was fifteen. She came to stay with them with PADDs full of books and a bad attitude, and instantly he took her under his wing. He introduced her to writers and genres she'd never experienced before, and opened up her world to the creative freedoms inherent in the written word. To this day, theirs is the only true enduring relationship she can speak to in her life. His wife Caroline was kind and feminine, and his son Anthony was a normal teenage influence, but Charlie wasn't the easiest person to love, and nor did she give it readily in return. But despite the issues with trust and security, Charlie stayed longer with the Delaneys than she had any other family. It was at their encouragement that she pursued a degree in English Language and Literature at Oxford University.

She could have found her purpose in further study and research, but that wasn't enough for Charlie. She felt as though there was more, that things on Earth were too easy, and what was happening out there on the boundaries of civilisation, where adventurers met the unknown was where the real story was; the real learning experience.

Charlie left Earth on a transport with no set destination in mind, and a determination not to look back. She planet-hopped for a time, freelancing and even once taking a temporary English teacher position on Casperia Prime. From there she traveled to Starbase Columbus and eventually became the political correspondent for the Post. She is currently in the process of interviewing some crew and residents that have been deemed "essential" as part of a new series she has tentatively titled: Beneath the Veneer.

[Charlie Fox - Jefferies Tube E-42, Outside Engineering - Starbase Columbus]

"Now I know what a TV dinner feels like," Charlie Fox muttered the quote as she crawled through a Jefferies tube, her leather jacket making weird squeaking sounds against the constricting metallic corridor. Olsen, her hovering holorecoder, did not respond. He merely thrummed pleasantly as he followed her very slow progress.

A bit paranoid, a hazard of the job, she supposed, Charlie whipped her head around to make sure Olsen was recording before she continued speaking. Her source in Sec/Tac had told her that the intruders were headed toward Engineering, and so instead of evacuating herself to one of the "safe zones", she'd managed to pull on a pair of shoes and grab her gadgets in time to beat the invaders to Deck 366.

"I'm here in the bowels of the Starbase," she began with an urgent whisper, staring directly into the eye of the holocam before she turned and continued her crawl through the tube. Just ahead was a sealed access door. "As I speak, the Breen are illegally infiltrating this installation. At this time we do not know why they want to kill us all, but we do know that they've no interest in taking prisoners. Kiss your loved ones goodbye, loyal followers, you might not get another chance to do it."

Knowing that the cam was only catching the back of her head, she rolled her eyes at her own words. She was so full of it that sometimes she even irritated herself. Although mostly she cracked herself up.

She wriggled the last of the way and then finally when she reached the door, she had enough space to stand upright. "No prize such as this can be won without securing its beating heart - that which powers the body and makes all of this wonder possible." Charlie reached out and entered a stolen security code into the panel beside the door, and then stood back slightly while the thing omitted a soft hiss, and unlocked. She pulled open the door just enough to peek out into the corridor beyond. "And so, here I am just outside Engineering, determined to bring you the latest action and news. The Columbus Post will get you the information you need to keep your families and interests safe."

A flurry of motion caught her eye and Charlie pulled back immediately, trying to get the hatch door closed and hide herself properly. Too late.

A thickly armoured, booted foot kicked open the door and grabbed a fistful of Charlie's red locks. She was pulled unceremoniously from the tube, and flung to the ground. She was screaming all sorts of hell, of course, but in her hand was also a small, shiny, round device. Her thumb pressed down on the device's only button.

The Breen soldier's boot came straight down on her head, and she collapsed to the ground, the gas grenade rolling from her grasp and toward the small company of invaders. Behind her, Olsen was still recording. Her editor was going to love it.

She could smell that Pulitzer already. Or maybe that was the gas.
