Character Bio:
Vem was the fiercest of Klingon warriors. He drew blood in ten conflicts with the Cardassians before his 20th year and would have drawn more if his services were it not stopped short by tragic circumstance. A transport he was on suffered an engine failure and crash landed upon a backwater planet known only as "Jek".

The people of Jek, the Jekiddians, were a spiritual hunter-gather society. A tribe of Jekiddians found Krox and brought him back to their sacred city for healing. It is said that Vem saw Sto'Vo'Kor and was changed forever. What he was was not a warrior's paradise but the worst hell he could have imagined. Vem joined the tribe of Jekiddians and learned the ways of their healers. Their simple ways were uncharastically effective and their balms and salves mended wounds that no modern medicine could have. It turns out Jek's vegetation was a cornucopia of pharmaceuticals and they, being an ancient race, had mastered its use.

Ten years after his arrival, a federation ship visited Jek on a survey mission and Vem was taken with them. He had changed. No longer was he a bloodthirsty Klingon warrior but a spiritual pacifist who sought only to heal and prevent those who would go to Sto'Vo'Kor. After sharing the information he had with Starfleet on the Klingon Empire (who he sees as the mortal advocates of Sto'Vo'Kor) he was offered a position within Starfleet.

Vem is not your traditional "Doctor" and does not have the title as he never graduated a Doctoral program. However, he is a healer. While knowledgeable about all the procedures and machines a medical officer needs to be familiar with, Vem's sick bay is stocked with pungent smelling leaves, fetishes, odd insects, exotic potions, and other such things.

Starfleet Career:
Vem served aboard the Discovery and a number of other ships for several years as an Ensign. However, the call of the wild was too strong for Vem to ignore and he eventually left for parts unknown- resigning his commission. Uncontacted for 2 years he surfaced again on Risa as the leader of a commune. This commune embraced all people and species and was widely regarded as a peaceful organization. After he finished his time there Vem elected to return and apply to Starfleet as a universal chaplain, able to minister to many faiths. He has accumulated a wide amount of knowledge- both spiritual and practical.

Your Details
Previous Role-Playing Experience: Constance/Rocky
Department Preference: Chaplain
Secondary Department Preference: Medical
Commissioned, Enlisted or Civilian: Commissioned

Note on Department Request:
Vem seeks to be a "Chaplain". A non-denominational one who could offer guidance and whatnot for a dozen religions and philosophies. If this will not be accepted as a commissioned posting- I would accept it as a civilian one, though prefer a commissioned one.

There are a few sources that show they are in Starfleet:

Since it was asked privately for me to expand upon the value/role of a chaplain on a star ship, I want to share them publicly here:

I see the role having two facets/values to the ship:
1) As a chaplain he would provide is a specialist set of knowledge not unlike a botanist or historian would. He would provide insight on religions, spirituality, and the believe systems of the various races and cultures encountered (so it would also be like xeno-religious studies).

2) They would provide a moral and spiritual services for the crew. This would be similar to a counselor except rather than providing psychological counseling, he would provide moral and spiritual consultations. For example, if a Bajoran had issues because they believed they violated part of their belief systems, Vem (who is well versed in their scriptures) could offer them advice and guidance. In this capacity- imagine him as a moral/ethical counselor.

Archangel Koris

Welcome (back) to Shadow Fleet!

After reading your application and a brief discussion, I'm delighted to be able to offer you the position of Chaplain on Starbase Columbus.  Due to the nature of this position, Vem will hold no rank other than that of chaplain, but he will be considered as commissioned.  If this is acceptable, please report in to your new commanding officers: Admiral Newberry and Commander McConnell.

Enjoy!
