S12 - M5: Raid on Paradise

[Ready Room]

Kirok sat in his office and read the shocking news from the Alpha Quadrant.  The UFP had been assassinated.  And Kirok was needed back in the Alpha Quadrant immediately.

He had asked Tekin and Wu to meet him.  He needed to share the news with them.  And introduce them to their new CO.

[XO Ready Room]

How the hell they were able to get out of that situation, he'll never know.  But once again, the Admiral (as cold as he could be sometimes) found a way to get them out of the situation the Talaxians had got them in.  Relaxing in his office, he was looking over the profile of the new Commanding Officer incoming.

The events of the Alpha Quadrant were high level need to know... and Kirok informing him of it was shocking... but it was necessary now, as their search into the Delta Quadrant could not proceed with the Fleet Admiral at the helm.  No... he was needed back.  Which left the Discovery without a CO.

Nevir closed his eyes with a sigh.  It felt almost like a disservice to his ship and crew, but both the Admiral and himself agreed that he was not ready.  He performed admirably under the circumstances over the Talaxian colony, but that situation only got bad because of his own choices.  Regardless of what the Admiral said, the Discovery would not have been caught off guard if the systems weren't stretched like they were against the Borg.  5 crewmen were lost in total.. 5 more than needed to be.

There was some good news at least.  The person who was coming in was someone he at least knew... and someone who already had an idea of what they were working with.  And it was a recent promotion for her own actions.  If anything, she was in command, but they were mostly equal.  Not to mention that she seemed shocked that he wasn't Captain by now.

Kirok had already told him that he was needed in the ready room with Wu.  Alex hadn't been told anything as of yet, and as the Second Officer, he would need to meet with the new Captain before the rest of the crew.  Glancing down at the time, he decided it was time to get up.

He passed through the Bridge, checking to see the status.  Their new Captain was going to meet them at their destination... what some were already calling the Risa of the Delta Quadrant.  With a quick check to see that they were almost there, about 20 minutes or so, he walked into the Ready Room.

"Admiral." he said, taking a seat and putting the PADD down on the table in front of him.  "We should be in orbit to rendezvous very soon."

Alex was in a mood, absently tapping his fingers against a PADD sitting on his leg while gazing blankly at the viewscreen infront of him. The last mission had ended as abruptly as it had started, with no resolution besides taking back some stolen technology. While he recognized that it was important for them to not leave advanced weapons in the hands of those who would have used them for ill, it still left a bitter taste in his mouth that the Talaxians were going unpunished. They had attacked a Federation starship. Lives had been lost, including two of his pilots. It wasn't the first time Alex had lost people, and he knew it wouldn't be his last, but the lack of closure still stung.

When Tekin came onto the bridge, Alex glanced at the chronometer before rising from his seat. "Lieutenant Luchico, you have the conn." Waiting for the diminutive woman to take the big seat, he followed the XO into the ready room. Unlike Tekin, he chose to stand, giving Kirok a nod. "Sir. Repairs are on schedule, we'll be ready to proceed with shutting systems down for detailed maintenance once we arrive at Ilandria."

Kirok offered a nod in reply.  "Thank you, Mr. Wu.  The repair teams will have their hands full.  Please extend my thanks to them for their diligent work" he said.

"And please make sure they are scheduled with some off time so they too might be able to enjoy what Ilandria has too offer.  With the Discovery remaining in the Delta Quadrant, it is hard to predict when the next RnR cycle might occur.  Or more correctly, where it might occur." the half Vulcan added.

Then he picked up the PADD Tekin had put in front of him.  The content displayed showed their upcoming arrival time.  And a breakdown of the time off requests by department that had already been approved.

"This is good work, Mr. Nevir.  Shutting down all none essential areas will help speed up the repair process.  I hope you have allowed some off time for you and Mr. Wu as well" he said.

[Engineering]

The rumor mill was alive and kicking. The scuttlebutt was they were heading to Ilandria and that was as far as sanity played out. Vincent tuned out the dozen or more theories as to what was happening, knowing full well that the need to know certainly didn't apply to the enlisted so the crewman trying to tell him some conspiracy theory about the Klingons was pure sehlat dung.

After the Talaxian business, he and the rest of the engineers were busy putting the ship together. Long shifts driven by caffeine and whatever the blue stuff was had been Vincent's life since the mission and being cranky was definitely coming with the course. Whatever real reason they were heading to Ilandria - if indeed that was where they were going since he never heard anything first hand, his curiosity, if indeed it lurked, would simply have to wait.

Repairs were coming along smoothly as each damage control team reported in but it was by no means going to be a few hours or even days. On a state of the art ship like the Discovery, archaic duct tape just wasn't going to cut it.

"Mitchell says we are getting a load of tribbles and beam the whole lot to Qo'noS." The conspiracy crewman whispered as he and Vincent stood at the station monitoring the warp core.

Vincent paused from what he was doing and looked at his colleague, a much younger Arcturian, his name having escaped him. "Mitchell is full of.." held his tongue as a lieutenant walked passed. "We are not going to Ilandria to pick up tribbles and dropped them off on the Klingon homeworld, though understandably the Klingons have a strong dislike for the little furballs." He chuckled imagining the Klingon High Council surrendering their Empire because of tribbles.

The Arcturian, was his name Tagvut? was quite insistent, raising a finger to counter when Vincent shook his head.

"No tribbles or Romulan death rays or Maganite crystal purifier. Just keep your eyes on the display, need to watch the plasma coolant ratios." He pointed at the screen on the console. "That is the only thing that concerns me. For the remainder of this shift, I suggest giving Mitchell a wide berth before he tries to sell you ocean front property on Vulcan."

The Arcturian looked at him confused before returning to his duties.

[Security Office - Brig]

it was good to be back on ship and despite rumours that Black had found amusing back to some kind of normallity. he sat at his desk reviewing the logs and crew reports.

"Hey Jensen next time your in sickbay, i'm moving your gear there" he joked with the young accident prone crewman who had just filed another report of minor injury", The woman looked back at him and smiled.

"Sir, may i remind you that all incidents need to be reported" which was her stock answer and expected as Lena Jensen was a strict follower of the rule book.

Black lowered his gaze once more and grinned as he returned to the reports. Just as he started to read the next one Lena spoke again "excuse me sir, but I've heard rumours that we are going on a top secret mission".

Steven looked up at her and shook his head, it was easy to forget just how young she was "I'll give you some free advice Lena, firstly never believe rumours you hear but always note them as some truth may be in them, secondly If we were going on a secret mission everyone of us would have orders by now telling us of the cover mission we were going in, they would look mlike genuine orders but once underway things would change and finally the brass will let us know soon enough what is happening, so I highly doubt we are smuggling Tribbles to Quonos or heading to New Romulus for the celebrations".

He sat back and put his feet up on the desk "Although that las would be good I could use some proper Romulan Ale".

The next log made him raise an eyebrow there seemed to be increased comms between Admiral Kirok and SF also at the same time the Admiral had made several calls to one person. This was the type of rumour Black found most reliable even if he had all the pieces for the puzzle but no way of knowing how they fitted together.

[USS Discovery, Awen's quarters]

Awen had been quite glad to get back on the Discovery following their little...adventure with the Talaxians. Actually, she still felt that there was more they could or should have done on the planet, but that decision was of course left to the command staff. The whole situation simply felt wrong there and it bothered her still. Just because there was nothing she herself could do didn't mean the Bajoran could forget about it.

Now it was her understanding that the Discovery was headed to the planet Ilandria for either shoreleave, personnel transfers, or both...depending on who you spoke to. Wherever they were headed, they were still en route which at least gave Engineering and Operations a chance to repair some of the damage to the ship and her auxiliary craft. It would be nice to have the ship in fully functioning order before they ended up assigned to another mission involving another firefight.

Sitting at her desk, Awen said,"Computer, display information about the planet Ilandria." Her console beeped as information scrolled onto the screen. Reading through it, she tried to get a feel for the planet - she'd never been there before. It seemed to be a fairly diverse planet with various activities, similar to Risa perhaps. Beautiful gardens, unique wildlife, mountains, rivers, lakes, forests, some archaeological sites, and other more athletic activities as well. The native inhabitants were said to be friendly and hospitable, generally speaking.

Awen wasn't quite sure what exactly she would do there, if she did go down to the surface. It wouldn't take her long to pack if she did though. For now, she had some other work she wanted to get to.

[Science Lab]

The Science Lab door swished open before her and Awen walked in quickly, glancing around. She'd chosen one of the lesser used Science Labs to hopefully work in peace. Finding an empty console, Awen took out the Science tricorder she'd used on the planet and set it to download its contents into the Discovery's computers.

Even if Star Fleet wasn't going to do anything about the Talaxians, it didn't stop her from analyzing the data she'd collected. Perhaps if she actually found something of use, it would change their minds. Or maybe Awen wouldn't find anything after all. Still, she had to check.

EQ was at the OPS station.  It was a quiet shift so far.  At least in comparison to recent events.

Some of the repairs had already stared.  He was just doing his past part before heading down to the planet.  He could not wait to start his RnR.

Ilandria. That was the rumor. She'd heard about it. A paradise where she could shop, lay in the sun... and buy that planet she'd always wanted. A planet to go to when she got tired of flying around the universe. A place her family could visit and maybe stay. She might even build a little city and invite others who shared her interest in medicine and golfing. She made a mental note to find out how to golf.

Leaning back in the ACMO's chair (hoping he didn't show up and kick her out of his office), LK gave a push and almost flew back into the bulkhead. Her mind had wandered and she'd forgotten that she had her feet comfortably up on the desk while she read medical reports. Moving her legs up and over, her feet hit the floor hard, her head snapping forward. Blinking, she brought herself back to the present and once again began reading.

Biobed three was ready to be discharged, bed four would need to stay under sedation another 48 hours and five was leaving in just a few minutes. One and two were empty, having been discharged that morning.

Dr. Reede sunk forward, putting her elbows on the desk, cupping her chin in her hands. Got to stay awake another hour at least. Then I sleep the sleep of the just.

[Ilandria - Planet Surface]

Steve trotted happily behind T'Ra and Evan as the pair strolled along, slowly meandering back into town. T'Ra looked over her shoulder to make sure the raptor was still following, finding that the little guy had stopped. He cocked his head, watching an insect buzz around. T'Ra stooped down to pick him up, affectionately scratching him under the chin. Steve's foot began to thump.

"You already have a cat," Evan said, "what do you need a raptor for?""

"He's cute. Plus Ardyn thought he'd be good for the baby."

They walked a few steps in silence as Evan tried to formulate a reply. But instead he asked, "Do you think they're within range yet?"

T'Ra shrugged, tapping her comm badge.

[Ready Room]

"Very good" Kirok replied.  He handed the padd back to Tekin.  Then turned to Wu.

"The UFP President has been assassinated.  So, I'm being called back to the Alpha Quadrant.  I will be with the Shran for a short while, then possibly the Colomubus" Kirok said.

"T'Ra Jones will be taking over here as the Commanding Officer.
This will allow the Discovery to continue it's mission of exploration in the Delta Quadrant.  She should be arriving at any time now" he added.
