PO2 Rayek
[Naraka Five - General Store  - 1st floor]

Rayek grimaced slightly as the items were listed off.  It wasn't much to work with, but he'd managed more with less before.

"Alright, it'll have to do.  Our tactic will be simple, following one of your human sayings. 'The best defense is a good offense.'  We aren't going to wait for them to hunt us down.  We are the hunters. Understood? Doctor, I'll get you to open this and all other doors while I cover you.  I'll enter first, sweeping the room, you enter next being ready to fire.  Silas, you will guard the back and close the doors behind us. Got it?"

Rayek moved into position, kneeling down on one knee to present less of a target.  His rifle was aimed center of the door, ready for when it opened.  When the others were in position, he nodded to the doctor.

Naraka Five - General Store  - 1st floor

Lizzie nodded in agreement and remembering some tactical classes she had taken at the Academy, she positioned herself behind the door. This way, when she opened it, she would not only be out of sight from anyone in the room but allow Rayek a free field of fire.

"On the count of three. One. Two. Three!" She counted down aloud.

When she reached three, she opened the door, waiting for Rayek to give the all clear.

The door opened with Dr. Vaughan keeping behind it. Rayek's rifle flashlight lit up the bottom few steps of a staircase that turned and moved up along the wall to the left.   With that initial section empty of threat Rayek rose briskly and stepped forward, moving into the doorway, bracing himself against the doorframe as he aimed his rifle up along the full-length of the stairwell.  It too was clear.

He started up the steps when a sound, like a slight scuff on the floorboards above alerted him to an impending attack. He crouched on the stairs as a figure moved just at the edge of his flashlight - the whine of a phaser sounded and the beam lanced just over his head.  If he'd been standing, he'd have been struck. Rayek fired back.. sweeping the rifle towards the figure.  The figure ducked back and Rayek took the opportunity to race up the stairs.  He continued firing his rifle at random aiming along the left edge of the steps...in an attempt to cover his run.

Bonnie nodded at him after he pondered the amount of hostiles outside the building. She turned towards the banging noise and back at Rhymus after. She was scared, she'd never been in a battle situation like this before.

Bonnie took the type-2 and stared at it closely. Everything seemed to go into slow motion as she stared at it. She'd had no training with a phaser and never thought in a million years that she'd have to kill someone, not even injure someone. Bonnie looked up and Rhymus was gone, a sudden moment of panic crossed her and she ran over to the bar counter and dropped behind it. Her heart was beating extremely fast and she didn't know what to do. "Rhymus!" She attempted to shout over all the noise, the call for help was muffled by the rest of the noise in the area.

Bonnie stayed behind the counter and closed her eyes. There was too much for her to cope with and she needed to calm down. This was way out of her comfort zone.

[Saloon - Gambling Area]

The room was dark, the only light used to have come from a few small bulbs towards the ceiling, but those had long since been removed. Inside, several large tables and heavy chairs took up a majority of the floor space, allowing Rhymus to sneak inside unnoticed by whoever else was in there.

The man slunk against the wall at a low crouch, moving around the room to get on the flank of whoever was there. There were two of them, as far as he could tell, by the hushed voices debating their plan of attack. They were his only source of navigation while he moved, and he cursed silently when they went silent, having heard something he couldn't.

The began moving again, slower, more carefully, it took all of Rhymus's concentration to note where they were in relation to him, waiting, listening, waiting...

Now.

Rhymus burst up, rifle spitting a burst of light into the chest of one alien attacker, perfectly lit by the light of the bar in the doorway, perfectly exposed. His friend, still shrouded in darkness, reacted faster than Rhymus had thought and fired back in a heavy salvo that forced the man into cover. He pushed over a heavy table, making a better piece of cover to hide behind as he waited for an opening. Both fighters were shrouded in darkness, in heavy cover, and well-armed and trained. The last thing Rhymus wanted was an extended firefight, especially not when he was a civilian to worry about. So, against his better judgment, he took a grenade from his belt. The conical device whined as he armed it, setting the time for just a few seconds before chucking it over his cover blindly. It hit the far wall, beeping, beeping, beeping...

Bang.

The photon explosion was similar to a torpedo, the mix of matter/antimatter together allowed for a charged burst of ion radiation meaning the immediate and rather loud elimination of the intended target. In the enclosed space, it's detonation was doubled if not tripled by the introduction of millions of shards of wood. The grenade had destroyed a sizeable section of wall, several tables, and more than a few chairs, along with the alien attacker who had become a smear across the floor.

While Rhymus had drawn the long straw in surviving the grenade's blast, it wasn't much longer. The blast was deafening, filling his ears with harsh ringing and disorienting the man in the enclosed space of the shockwave. The shards of wood weren't much improvement, as his cover was shredded in the blast. More than a few piece managed to penetrate the table, almost impaling the Security crewman.

The Saloon's gambling hall had become eerily silent, now bathed in daylight from the hole in the wall.

[Naraka Five - General Store - stairs to 2nd floor]

Naraka Five - General Store  - 1st floor

As Rayek began to move, Lizzie was about to move through the door behind him when a phaser beam nearly hit her. She took cover on the other side of the door, not wanting to shoot as she was not sure if she would hit the target.

With the 2nd floor approaching quickly because of his dash up the steps, Rayek took in his surroundings almost instantly.  The stairwell was brick wall to the ceiling on this right and wood paneling on his left going up about 3 ft past the 2nd floor, acting as a half-wall.  Directly in front of him the stairs opened to a landing maybe 4 ft by 4 ft with brick walls on the front and right side.  If he continued up the stairs full-bore, Rayek recognized he would end up in easy line of sight of the enemy and at a huge disadvantage.

So instead, Rayek fired off one last round of phaser fire along the left, then slung his rifle over his shoulder by it's strap.  By bracing his left foot on the left wood-paneled wall, he pushed off up towards the right and did the same bracing his right foot on the right wall and pushed off up towards the left.  In essence Rayek half-ran up the brick wall like a ninja and leaped for the paneled half-wall, grabbing the edge of it and quickly pulled himself over, rolling away from his exit point while trying to get bearings on where his attacker was.

[General Store -2nd Floor]
Again with a single glance he immediately took in his surroundings.   The 2nd floor appeared to be more of an office space with some storage nearest the stairs.  It was in among these boxes that Rayek found himself.  Light from two large broken windows filled the room and Rayek had to squint against it's backdrop to see his attacker, even as he swung his rifle around back into hand. The figure was humanoid in stance wearing clothes and weaponry that brought to Rayek's mind a bounty hunter.  When it turned to face towards him it seemed as if its skull was interlaced with faint light within.  It was not a species Rayek was at all familiar with, not that it mattered at the moment.   Rayek fired his phaser into into the creatures chest with a direct hit.  The alien staggered a moment before collapsing.

Rayek did a quick sweep of the room. "Clear!" he called, keeping away from the windows and looking up to the ceiling for some means to access the roof.

Bonnie had finally calmed herself and took hold of the phaser which Rhymus had left her. She raised slightly, peaking over the counter and then dropping back down immediately. This was too much for Bonnie to handle out of her field of expertise. She could perform open chest surgery on someone and be completely calm but nothing like this. There was too much going on at once.

Bonnie jumped as the explosion went off and dropped down even lower to the floor. Her heart rate raised dramatically once again, beating rapidly as she sat in fear of her life.  She took a deep breath, then another one. 'In. Out. In. Out.' she thought to herself as she tried to calm herself for a second time in the past 10 minutes.

Bonnie sighed heavily and shook her head in disbelief. She couldn't get her heartbeat any lower then it was. The situation was too much for her to handle. She raised above the counter and raised the phaser, firing three times. All of the shots completely missed, hitting walls or foliage. She lowered back down and shook her head. "I'm gonna die here." She said to herself, just hoping someone would jump in and save her.

At the sound of Rayek's voice, she sighed in relief. Then, motioning to Silas to follow, she made her way up the stairs with her phaser at the ready.

Soon she was at the top of the stairs. Deciding to keep away from the windows as Rayek had suggested, she began to look for a way onto the roof. There was an open door to her left that led into an empty room. In one corner of that room was a roof hatch, Grimacing, she turned to Where Rayek was searching.

"There is a hatch in the ceiling of this room here!" She said on a low voice.

Kyle kept one eye open for their surroundings and the other on Liv. They scoured the second floor. No bodies but lots of signs of battles. Kyle heard an explosion and made his way to a window to see if he could spot any of the other members of the team just before he heard the floor above him creek. He quickly turned to Liv and placed a finger over his lips.

"Shhhhh." he whispered and pointed upward.

He walked back to her side and handed her the phaser back and guided her over toward a corner with some boxes stacked in it. "You keep this and stay here. I'm gonna go up and check it out."

He could see her getting ready to protest. "I'll be fine." he assured her. He had trained in several different hand to hand courses and martial arts. "It will be easier if I didn't have to keep an eye on you also. Just give me a few minutes."

He kissed her on the check and headed for the stairwell, quietly making his way up.

[Saloon - Gambling Hall]

Rhymus spent the next few minutes gathering his wits. He didn't bother moving, much less speaking until he counted 20 fingers on his hands instead of 40 and the ringing in his ears had died down to a dull whine. Once there, he started to move. Using a nearby table to help himself to his feet, he took a breather before moving back into the other room.

[Saloon - Main Room]

Rhymus scanned the room from the doorway. His vision had cleared to the point he could see clearly, but the ringing persisted fairly annoyingly. Looking around the room, however, made Rhymus freeze. There was something wrong...

Bonnie was nowhere to be seen.

She had been near the doorway when he first left. Had they swooped in and taken her while he fought the first attackers? Why didn't she call out? Where was she? The man didn't want to even think about what these men would do if they got ahold of her. She was barely cut out for work aboard the ship, much less in the field. He had to find her.

Finding Bonnie took priority. He hadn't been gone long, so maybe, just maybe, they were still inside. Against his better judgment, he decided to call out.

"Bonnie? Bonnie! Where are you?!"

After a moment of debating the pro's and con's of the idea, Rayek looked to Dr. Vaughan.  "Doctor, if I lifted you to the hatch, would you feel comfortable enough to test if it is locked.. just whether it is locked.  I don't want you to open it, if it is unlocked. I can open it on my own in a jump. But I need to know before hand that it will open."

Liv didn't like the idea of Kyle going to check out whatever the creaking noise was but as usual she couldn't argue with him not when he knew how to reassure her. Of course he could handle himself and he was right if he went without her, he didn't have to worry about her getting caught up in something or worse injured. So she sat amongst the boxes hiding like he had told her with her hand firmly gripping the phaser, trying not to worry but at the same time was concerned about not only her husband going to search the floor above but by the explosion they had both heard.

Praying that Kyle and the rest of the away team would be okay as she continued to sit there and waited for him to return although at the first sign of any trouble she would be out and helping.

Lizzie listened to Rayek's suggestion and nodded in agreement. Not only was she probably the lighter of the two, but Rayek would also be quite a bit stronger than her. It made sense for him to lift her up to test the hatch.

"That sounds like a plan." She replied. "How do you want to do it? Sitting on your shoulders or do you just want to give me a boost?" She asked.

Rayek was a guy.  A guy with a hard-on for Terran women.  His answer wasn't hard to guess, despite the life and death situation they found themselves in. He'd take what little pleasures life offered.  Though he did at least try to make it seem reasonable.

"My shoulders." he answered as he crouched down on one knee, lowering his head to make it easier for her to climb on. "It'll be more stable and I'll have my hands free to use my weapon if needed."

Glancing over his shoulder, towards the quiet flight officer, Rayek couldn't help but give Silas a look that clearly read 'Score one - Rayek.'  It was a guy thing.  "Keep alert and watch the stairs." He advised the officer with a slight smirk.

PO2 Rayek
[Naraka Five - General Store - 2nd Floor]

Lizzie shook her head slightly. 'Men', she thought to herself. 'No matter the species, they still have the same things on their minds'.

With a small smile on hr lips. Lizzie put down her medical kit and holstered her phase. She then climbed onto Rayek's shoulders and held her arms at right angles at her sides for balance.

"Ready when you are!" She said.

Saloon - Main Room

Bonnie jumped when Rhymus called for her. She shuffled over to the side of the counter and peeked around quickly. "I'm here." She said at the same time; the fighting seemed to have quietened where they were for the moment and Bonnie let out a quiet sigh. She felt safer now, calmer as a result.

Once Rhymus had moved over to her she lowered herself more, sitting down and placing her head back against the counter. "Rhymus, I don't know how many there were. This isn't my job. Science and medicine is." She said to the man, picking up the type 2 and placing it on his lap. "This would be better served with you. It'll make less of an impact with me than with you." She paused for a moment, taking another deep breath. "If you get hurt, I can patch you up. If there's anything scientific, I can make sense of what it is. But not use a phaser, maybe I should get some practice when we get back."

After Bonnie had calmed herself and Rhymus had taken a few minutes to rest, Bonnie looked over to him and nodded. "Where to?" Bonnie asked.

[Saloon]

Rhymus sat next to Bonnie, taking the phaser as she put it down.

"Bonnie, I know the situation isn't ideal. But I need you with me on this. Now more than ever."

He took her hand. Placing the phaser in it and wrapping his hand around hers.

"Please just hold onto it. If only so I feel better. I'd much rather you have it and never use it than not have it at all. Please?"

He took a few minutes to rest, spending the time detaching the holster for his phaser from his belt and attaching it to Bonnie's, allowing her to at least keep it on her and her hands free.

When Bonnie asked where to next, he spent another minute thinking.

"The grenade blast put a sizeable hole in the wall where it detonated. We'll go out that way and see if we can't find a way to another building. If we find more of these attackers, I expect you to find a place to hide. Hardcover, and well hidden. When it is safe, I will tell you explicitly. If you hear another else, or if I am captured, do not leave your spot. Stay there until they leave, then go find another group. Understand?"

He looked at her, awaiting her response.

Suddenly an explosion sounded and the building shook slightly.  Rayek, who had been mildly distracted by the doctors closeness, turned quickly towards where the sound originated - 100% alert now.  His free hand moved to her brace her leg against his chest as he turned, so as not to topple her with his sudden movement.  He cocked his head trying to hear the last echoes better.

He could tell that it had not come from far away, though definitely ground level.  His best guess would be the building to the left of them.  Though muffled through brick and mortar,  Rayek from the explosions sound would hazard that it was a photon grenade.  CPO Cleroux had carried a few on his weapons vest he noted earlier.  It was a good sign that at least some of the others were still alive.

While unexpected, the explosion also provided the perfect distraction.  He rose to his feet and moved directly under the hatch. "Hurry, and check. The explosion makes an ideal distraction.".   While he waited for Dr. Vaughan to check the hatch and reply back, Rayek kept alert, suspecting the enemy might take advantage of the distraction as well.
