Character Bio: Rachel felt dragged around all of the universe as her father tried to work/charm his way up the ladder of success in various cultures. As a result, she has traveled a lot. Rachel has seen many species. She doesn't have a lot of experience expressing herself as both her parents have dominating personalities. As a result, she qualified to join Starfleet, but her greatest challenge so far is learning to assert herself and believe in her own abilities.
Her education was spliced together from various schools on different planets as her family traveled about. Often she was stuck reading the required bits on her own if they were traveling, but when she was in a fixed place for long enough she immersed herself in a study of music and local plants. While she never considered becoming a botanist, she loves surrounding herself with growing things. At one point she was certain she had more plants than articles of clothing, but she gave away many of her potted plants when she first applied for Starfleet in hopes of an eventual posting that would take her away from home.
Rachel's grades were generally respectable. Her math scores were even quite good, but she has always struggled with history and reading star charts, despite her many years of travel.
Music was Rachel's shortcut to connect to a new culture and hopefully learn a little about its unique perspectives. It is a hobby she still enjoys although she swears she is not musical at all. In the privacy of her room, she loves to dance. Secretly she wants to cut loose on a dance floor, but she hasn't reached that level of confidence yet.

Sample post: Rachel managed to wait until she'd exited the testing room before she sank to the floor. She reached up to wipe off the sweat before it ran down into her eyes. Months of practicing for this one moment hadn't felt like enough, but she had done the best she could. She had demonstrated her ability to use what she'd learned to treat the injured and dying. Rachel knew that the real thing would be a billion times worse. No matter how much her parents had moved from place to place, they had never managed to get ahead of every natural disaster. She liked to think that this was part of the reason she wanted to join Starfleet, but it was only a small portion of the greater story.
Truth be told, Rachel wanted to run away from home. As an adult, this wasn't a very worthy goal. That's why she'd wrapped herself in medical studies and a need to help others. It sounded good. Hopefully, she'd managed to make the admissions committee believe her motives. She really did want to help others. Was it such a crime if she wanted to be the primary beneficiary of her efforts?
