Personal History: Max grew up around the galaxy, being the daughter of an ambassador. She was born on Alpha III, but moved to Trill when she was 2. They moved every 3 to 5 years, and when she turned 6, they moved to Vulcan. It was there when she had her accident. An ambassador friend of her father's owned an enclosed compound that mimicked Earth's atmosphere. He kept various forms of wildlife there as a preserve, including horses. Max had taken a few lessons and looked forward to it. However, one day, a leopard had broken free of its enclosure and frightened the horse, which reared back and deposited Max on the ground. She broke her neck and suffered a hematoma in her brain. She woke up a week later and was told she would have to undergo months of rehabilitation. The Vulcan doctors and nurses did not demonstrate much empathy, and her parents, both over-achievers, worked long hours. Max knew she could do a better job as a doctor than the Vulcans attending her, and decided to become one, not only to help others' suffering, but to demonstrate to the galaxy the achievements of humanity. She would always get teased for her humanity when living on other planets by the kids in school. She figured she had a score to settle...of sorts.

To pass the time during her convalescence, she took up painting. Her sister, Ro, visited as often as she could, and also took up painting. Ro also studied her lessons in Max's room and Max would help her with her science. They gossiped about the doctors and nurses, played games, and had long discussions on what they wanted out of life. Max and Ro bonded over that experience, and for that Max was grateful.

Max eventually recovered, and even a few told her to ride again, but she could never bring herself to climb onto another horse.

At 11, she moved to Tellar, but her mother hated it there, so her father requested a transfer and they went to Earth and lived in Chevy Chase, MD. That summer, her parents took Max and Ro to a family reunion in New York. It was good to see her cousins again, and even better when they brought along two of them on a tour of the U.S. They drove from New York to California, stopping at tourist attractions along the way. In San Francisco, her father gave them all a tour of Starfleet Academy and Max thought it was the most beautiful school she'd ever seen, and decided she would follow in her father's footsteps and attend. She would not be a diplomat, but a doctor, eventually becoming Surgeon General of the Federation. That would make her parents proud. They were always pushing her to do and be her best.

Her parents put her in Georgetown Prep in Maryland, and it was there she met her best friend, Elizabeth, and they soon became fast friends. Her mother was a diplomat, so they understood each other's backgrounds and exchanged stories of their experiences on various planets. They hung out together, talked about boys, and double dated when they were finally allowed to date. Ro became jealous of her friendship with Elizabeth, but Ro eventually acquired her own circle of friends.

Max's mother became pregnant and due to her age, was considered high risk. However, the family and Max (eventually) looked forward to welcoming a new member of the family. Max's mother lost the baby in her third month, and they found out it would have been a boy. Max was devastated and often wondered what it would be like to have a brother.

Georgetown Prep skipped Max from the 9th to 10th grade, so she graduated at 16. She was eager to travel. Growing up around the galaxy made her itch when she stayed in one place for more than a few years. She then applied to Starfleet and majored in biology/pre-med. Once in med school, she decided a specialty in xenobiology would be a golden ticket to travel the galaxy, as well as a path to the office of the Federation's Surgeon General.

Sample post:

Tanis Lev sat at the ship's Ops station quietly, and in relative patience, gazing pensively into her cup of raktejino while awaiting the arrival of their final crewmember. And, as if on cue, a familiar hiss signaled said crewman's entrance. Tanis took note of the fresh faced young officer, nodded resolutely, and stood up.

"Now that we're all here, can I have your attention, please?" she began, pausing until all eyes, and each of the four heads present were turned toward her.

"I will make this as succinct as possible. First, a few days ago Captain Chernone 101 of Vanator Station informed JS Command that our communications array, and its corresponding computer support mechanism had had sabotaged. We cannot, at this point, send or receive long range communications. In an effort to circumvent that situation, Chernone established an extended shuttle relay system, stretching out between the Kendrassa System and the Wormhole. That relay, for reasons unknown, has since gone dark. Our mission. . .one aspect, at least, is to investigate and find out why we have lost contact with the shuttles.

"Also. . .we have information which strongly suggests that there is a plot in place to assassinate both Kendrassi Executor Zikyra Esset and Federation President Bacco. According to the last message we received, her ship. . .Federation One was docked at DS9. It's entirely possible that she is already enroute to Kendrassa Prime.

"Our mission is three-fold. One Á¢â,¬"œ to investigate why the shuttle relay system has gone dark. Two Á¢â,¬"œ to install our own relay system. . .we are carrying seven specially modified MS29 marker buoys-commsats which will be dropped at intervals between here and the Wormhole. And third Á¢â,¬"œ if we encounter Federation One, we are to join them, brief the President, and follow whatever decision she makes concerning her trip to Jericho Station. . . .Questions?"

Her query was met with silence.

"Very well. Cadet Mudd. . .would you inform JS Ops that we are breaking orbit?"

"You got it, Girl. . ." Courtney answered, quickly clearing her throat as she amended herself. "That is Á¢â,¬"œ Aye, sir."

Maxine,

A great application.

I have an opening in the Medical Department on the Columbus.  There you can start as a Ship Counselor (a good path for a diplomat).

And if you like, I can have someone start your Officer Training Course which will help you acclimate to our site.

Please let me know if that will work for you.

Sincerely,

Kirok
