Kali Reyes

[Sickbay]

The Discovery had been in Denobulan space for awhile now, so it had attracted all sorts of medical researchers looking for a cheap lift from one system to another. No one really mind - the missions in-between were a little less festive nowadays. Milk runs could only be so entertaining to a Starfleet vessel with a name meant for more exotic situations.

Right now they were sailing at warp with a cache of researchers interested in the circadian rhythm. And who better to track and understand irregular sleep patterns than unpredictable, erratic humans? From what Kali had heard, Doctor Zeyn poured for two days straight in the personnel files of every human on the ship and then politely wanted access to the sleep frequencies for a small pool of candidates her and her colleagues deemed worth examining.

Insomniacs and irregular sleep patterns was their experimentation. Kali was obviously at the top of that list. Why? She told them that it had little to do with psychology and a lot to do with wonderful, but cursed biology. Reproductive biology. The lack of such activities of reproductive biology. They accepted her answer, but they still stressed her to go for the sake of science. And that was dirty pool to wield science against her.

It didn't matter to her, but the venue did. Kali didn't think she would be a very good test subject. Sickbay always put her on high alert. There was no way she could let her guard down and sleep with a cache of hyposprays nearby. She didn't want to suddenly wake up on a biobed and stare up at a doctor with a surgical mask on and a sonic drill buzzing in one hand.

When she arrived in her tank top, sleep pants, and a giant sehlat stuffy, she was the first one there. The nurses were gone from this particular area, but the good grumpy Doctor Cottle was there. He was probably observing tonight's experiment. At first she looked around for the researchers because she conveniently forgot the addendum in their email that they won't be around - that observing would disrupt the 'natural' sleep cycle and taint the experiment, but Cottle was a familiar face. The environment would be less strenuous and awkward.

But this was Cottle, so of course this was awkward. She didn't know what to say to him except: "Eyes up here, doc." Because he was probably going the question the sehlat toy. Everyone did.

Klabax Cottle

[Sickbay- 2100 Hours]

Though not a people person by any stretch of the imagination, Klabax had managed to make the area at least somewhat less uncomfortable. The couch that Kali had badgered him about getting was here, as well as some of his more fluffy and friendly animals. The surgical table had been removed and moved away, and the big medical display that was taller than he had a selection of earth movies on hand. Not just earth ones but also other ones, provided they asked nicely.

As Klabax didn't have to sleep, he was prefect to observe the study. He had also taken the precaution of removing all but one set of hyposprays, which he would have by his person at all times.

How the doctors had convinced the Captain to host this in sickbay was anybody's idea, but Klabax had his orders and would follow through on it. Thankfully nobody had their physical tonight. Klabax was sitting in a corner and observing, his different animals both in cages and walking around. Most friendly was what looked similar to an old earthen dog, a smaller creature as well as some of the sterilized tribbles that Kali had helped him sort through. Hopefully the presence, the researchers thought, of small animals would help relieve stress.

As Klabax waited in the back, he saw Kali enter with a sehlat toy. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing. "Good evening chief." He said simply, not asking the question but having it implied it was there.

For lack of a better term, the Dog was also aware. The small creature ran up to Kali and tried to put its front paws on her leg, still only coming up to about mid calf as it whined pitifully.

Kinley Garrison

[Medbay]

Kinley was all for scientific research, but this was one of the more unique experiments she had participated in, by a long shot. She wasn't exactly quite certain what the Denobulans were hoping to achieve by all this, as they didn't exactly need much in the way of sleep, but hey, it was for science... right?

Making her way down in  shorts and an oversized Starfleet Academy T-shirt of her brother's, Kinley padded into the medbay and shortly found herself being slightly drooled on by a cute, fuzzy, doggy-like creature. Grinning to Kali as she scratched the cute little dog's ears, she noticed the changes in decoration from the usual medical supplies.  "It's gonna be quite the party, isn't it?"

We're in Starfleet here. Weird is part of the job description.
