"They're taking her to the shuttlebay," Mahak told the other man. "It is the only logical place to make an escape. Logic dictates that we cannot defeat so many pirates by ourselves. We must prevent the shuttle launch."

The Vulcan led the way through the passageways. The Shran had come to life now that the Orions had what they wanted. Medical teams were policing bodies, and security teams were patrolling to ensure that the enemy had truly left.

"While it is never safe to assume, the Orions are experienced in this type of operation." Mahak told Kinun. "If we do something overtly to stop their launch, such as a tractor beam, they will hurt Kali. We also cannot openly assault so many pirates. I believe we should find a way to sabotage the shuttle or the airlock."

[Corridor]

A reasonable assumption. I could always yell at them how many laws and treaties they are breaking but it would do little good." he said. "If we were able to take Shuttle Control we could close the blast doors- I doubt any shuttle could have the firepower to punch through that." he said, thinking.

As medical and security rushed around, it was clear the resources had been drained. The Shran had been caught with her metaphorical shields down- an attack had not been expected. Teams were around, yes, but not organized and not in surplus.

"We need to find a way to rescue the Chief Petty Officer at the same time." Hust said. "If they are stopped they will use her as leverage. Though I do know that the Federation does not deal with terrorists." he said, implying that if they couldn't stop them that there was little they could do. "What are the status of the internal transporters?"

"They were undergoing a high level diagnostic before the attack," Mahak replied. He put his rifle around his back and tapped away at one of the consoles fixed into a bulkhead. "Shrewdly, the Chief Operations Officer has locked them into diagnostic mode to make it appear they are still offline. They could be used, but only once."

The Vulcan shut off the display and turned to the ensign.

"Sir, if we use the internal transporters the Orion would be notified." He said soberly. "This would mean they would deactivate the transporters on the entirety of the Shran. Shall we beam ourselves to Kali or Kali away?"

Kali Reyes

[Shuttle Bay]

The leader unceremoniously tossed her into one shuttles.

"Are you really this pissed off about the retirement home?!" she complained from the floor. Two of the Orion goons quickly made for the flight controls when Skran turned around and stalked for her.

"Nope. Leverage." He pointed the phaser at her head, and delighted when she flinched in fear. "Your daddy's gonna have to pay up for ya. Caleb Reyes, right? The colonial tycoon?"

If she wasn't ready to piss herself, she would have rolled her eyes. "He's dead."

He tapped the barrel against her temple. "That's not what I heard."

"Then maybe you should fire your informant!" she yelped. "Can you not point that thing at me, please?!"

"If that's the case..." Kali yelped in pain when he grabbed her by the hair and pulled up. "You've just lost your reason to stay alive, sweetie."

The burly Orion seemed giddy from behind. "At least let me play with her a bit before you kill her, boss!"

"What does it matter if yer warm or cold?" the leader grinned nastily. "Stek here will want to have ya anyway." It made Kali visibly gag.

Hust thought. He had an idea- At the moment, however, it was a fairly terrible idea, and almost certainly wouldn't work. "Well..." he said, thinking as he scrounged and found a photon grenade in the pocket of a dead security guard. "Can we do a swap? Send something there and bring something here?" he asked, fiddling with the explosive.

"Also might I add, that was a hellova time to run diagnostics." he grumbled.

"I agree we'd only get one shot- but if we can give them a black eye that might give us some time to maneuver... or even chase them off. If we could get weapons control secure the Shran could likely fight off an equivalent Orion warship."

He walked over to a panel and pulled up status reports- but right now they were a jumbled mess of data. Something was wreaking havoc with the computer systems here.

"You have a logical mind," The Vulcan replied. It was high praise, coming from him. "We should beam Kali out and something into her place simultaneously. This would get the most use out of our one time transport."

Hust took the grenade and affixed a commbadge to it. He put the grenade on a rather high yeild- one that would certainly kill or maim any unfortunate victims but shouldn't damage the shran or shuttles too badly.

"Beam Kali here, and let's give them a gift." he said, priming the grenade and getting ready to release it for transport.

"On your mark, crewman."

Kali Reyes

[Shuttle]

There was a blithe nod from the leader and Kali found herself pulled up by the burly Orion with his nasty grin and pock marks around his eyes. "Wait, wait, wait!" she whined. "Do you know how easy I am? Force is totally unnecessary, gentlemen!" Two confused sets of eyes encouraged her to continue. "Let's be frank here - you got Kali Reyes. Kali Reyes. You should be running from me, not the other way around."

"Who the hell is Frank?" The Orion holding her up asked curiously.

She felt herself suddenly dematerialized and the last thing she saw was the leader catching wind of what was happening and lunging angrily for her with a shout.

[Corridor]

And that was how she ended up sitting in a completely different part of the ship and tripping on her feet with a heavy smack of her bum. It took her a good second to get her synapses firing right and figure out what just happened. "Waz-happened?"

Mahak knelt by Reyes, and very gently for a man of his strength, helped her to her feet. Quite unashamedly, the Vulcan held her close to him, his chin on the top of her head as his arms encircled her waist. They were touching all along the lengths of their body, from head to thighs.

The Vulcan realizes that Kinun was still with them. Awkwardly, he stopped clutching Reyes and turned to the ensign.

"Sir, I believe it worked." Mahak said unnecessarily.

Hust let go of the grenade as it was beamed away, and Kali appeared in it's place. The dull BOOM from somewhere fore of them indicated the plan had worked- a few less Orions were on the ship now.

He turned to see the Vulcan in a most un-vulcan pose, grasping Chief Reyes. Interesting. he thought, but paid no mind to it. As long as they could keep doing their jobs, he'd be fine.

The affection did, however, explain the blind frenzy that Mahak had been in before, about to charge the Orion pirates with naught but a broken rifle. He handed off the rifle he had gathered to Reyes, and took a smaller pistol for himself. The sounds of phaser fire were intensifying, as the Orions began taking their revenge. Hust moved quickly to a jefferies tube access corridor. He opened it, and motioned for the others.

"In here, Quick." he said, not giving any indication that he had seen the break in emotions, but he bet they probably knew he did.

Kali Reyes

[Corridor]

At the mercy of Orion pirates, one's brain was switched something strange. A culmination of desperation for survival and all that neat little tidbits that helped mankind survive the dark ages. Kali was still a bit switched on defensive mode when Mahak plucked her up and she squirmed a bit mindlessly before his familiar earthy scent managed to click in her head again. Instead of the shuttle walls closing in on her, the open corridor and a Starfleet uniform greeted her in welcome.

Kali finally relaxed in utter relief before Mahak stiffly pulled away and she was tossed a rifle of her own. "Did you just teleport me through the ship?" she asked, her voice catching to save face, as she was forced to hop into the nearest Jefferies tube.

"A sight to sight transport, yes. Of sorts." Mahak told her. "A grenade was beamed in your place."

A volley of fire from the Orions cut off any other words. Mahak knelt and returned tactical quick taps of phaser fire. He didn't hit anyone, but it gave them a reprieve. He joined Reyes in the jeffires tube.

"We still need to turn off the warp device on the enemy vessel," He told her and Kinun.

Hust Kinun

[Corridor]

"Well," Hust said, as he made sure they were both in before sealing and locking the entrance to the tube, and raising a force field as containment. "We're obviously not using the transporters... Does the ship still have impulse drive?" he asked. He crawled along on his hands and knees till he got to the next major junction, and began working his way toward the shuttlebay's deck.

He turned to Chief Reyes. "Yes, we did. And left a lovely grenade in your place. They shouldn't be troubling us any further, provided we can lose them in here." he said, which wasn't hard as Hust was getting lost, correction, was lost, himself.

"Now that Kali is safe we must focus on freeing the Shran." Mahak said in his clear, logical way. "As long as the dreadnought's warp interdiction weapon is online we cannot escape. Kali, do you have any idea how we could disable it?"

Kali Reyes

[Corridor]

"The Shran can't fold itself in long enough to find out?" Kali briefly wondered what the hell was going on. Maybe the bridge itself was on lockdown. But she did know about a few tricky gadgets on the market that can disable a brand-spanking new ship like this one.

"Think we can grab someone who knows?"
