Bio:
==|| General Appearance||==
 Nathan is on the shorter side of average height. He has a wiry  swimmer's build and a boyish face that people often mistake for  younger than his 17 years. His brown hair is fairly unruly on the
  best of days.

==|| Personality ||==
 Nathan is a socially inept, easily excitable genius. He's getting more comfortable in social situations, but still prefers to work solo or in a small team as opposed to the hustle and bustle of large crowds.

Strengths - Nathan's biggest asset in his chosen field is the ability to think outside the box. His analytical skills and ability to dissect complex technical problems have proven useful.

Weakness - The biggest areas in need of improvement would be Nathan's lack of social graces. Uncomfortable in large groups of people, Nathan prefers the solitube of a lab or a smaller number of people to work with.

==|| Ambitions||==
 To simply explore. Nathan is an explorer at heart, and has an insatiable curiousity. A natural leader, like his mother, Nathan has toyed with the idea of command, but his experiences on the Hawking have tempered that ambition. He was given authority at a very young age in his first stint as a Starfleet Officer and by his own admisison wasn't ready. He's more comfortable now in a command role and hopes one day to command a ship of his own, if for nothing else to honor his mother's memory.

 ==|| Hobbies||==
 Given his status as an "egghead", some people would be shocked to learn that Nathan is an avid outdoorsman, and has a passion for the old Earth sport of baseball. He's also developed a passion for holo programming and some of his coding was used in the new "Avatar" program being tested in some of Starfleet's newer ships.

==|| Languages Spoken ||==
 Federation Standard, Klingon, Some Ferengi, Bajoran

Nathan speaks with a midwestern American Accent. He also has a very slight lisp. When he gets excited, or is talking about a topic that is of particular interest to him he can lose listeners because he talks very fast and has the habit of forgetting that his listener isn't neccesarilly as enthused or knowledgable on the subject.

==|| Early Life ||==

 James and Anisha Benjamin were living a life that they'd worked very hard for and sacrificed a lot to have. Both of them—one through desire, the other through circumstance—were career officers in Starfleet with exemplary records and sterling reputations. Anisha was a bright young commanding officer with the galaxy at her fingertips. Commanding one of Starfleet's prized vessels, the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Trident, her career was nothing but one accolade after another

James was a doctor whose name was mentioned in the same breath as some of the Federation's leading physicians. In the civilian world, he would have risen to the administrative ranks at a premiere care facility of his choosing, but that wasn't what he wanted. He could have, and would have been, content to serve his first commission in Starfleet and then retire to work on the Frontier with one of the humanitarian groups supplying medical aid and resources to those worlds in the most desperate need. That was the life he'd envisioned for himself, and until the last year of his commission, he was looking forward to it.

That all changed during an 18-month stint as Assistant Chief Medical Officer aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown. The Yorktown, an aging Ambassador-class vessel, was then under the command of a Bolian named Ferm Lizro, who had at the same time signed on a rapidly rising star in the command ranks, a Commander named Anisha Ryan. She was to serve as the ship's XO until her decommission. However, on their first mission together, James and Anisha were trapped together in a shuttle for nearly a week.

They were inseparable after that and were married some months later. Soon after their marriage, Anisha was given the opportunity that she'd sought since taking the command track: command of her own vessel. The newly commissioned U.S.S. Trident was hers. And after six months, she was able to sign her husband on as Chief Medical Officer. He could have opted to resign his commission, but he wouldn't have been able to practice aboard the Trident, or he'd have been separated from his wife. Neither option was acceptable, and so he retained his commission.

About a year into their time together on the Trident, Anisha gave birth to the couple's first son, Nathan. He was a healthy, energetic child that the crew, as well as his parents, doted on constantly. For the Benjamins, they felt they were living an idyllic existence. Happy in their careers, and as a family, they spent nearly eight years together on the Trident. But they never saw the end coming. On December 15, 2382, the Trident encountered a Borg Cube. Most of the great ship's crew and civilians were killed or escaped in shuttles and escape pods, but a good number of them, including the Benjamins, were assimilated into the Borg collective. The elder Benjamins became drones while Nathan was placed in a maturation chamber to await the day that he, too, would become useful to the collective as a drone. However, the Benjamins weren't taken to the Borg cube, instead, the Borg assimilated the Trident herself. Conflicting reports at the time had the Galaxy-class vessel blowing up, simply disappearing, or warping from the system during the fray. The truth of her  demise would never become public.

The Benjamins' existence as part of the Borg Collective was relatively short-lived. Almost two years after they were whisked away from their lives in their assimilated starship, they were transferred to the another cube, which ran into some unknown issues resulting in it's crew being cut off form the collective  instantly restoring individuality to the thousands of drones aboard. It was soon after decided that the group ought to leave that world and settle on a remote planet outside the sphere of influence of the quadrant's major powers.

In 2387, after five years spent on their new world, the Free Borg discovered ways to rid themselves of the cumbersome Borg implants that had necessitated their self-imposed exile. Some of them, however, refused to undergo the treatment, causing a schism within the colony. James and Anisha Benjamin were on the side that wanted to erase the visual signs of their brief membership in the collective, but the opposition was loud and adamant. Eventually, the conflict grew from a debate to a violent struggle. The Benjamins during this time sent Nathan, who was now nearing ten years old, to live on Cestus III with friends of the Benjamin family, Shane and Elyse Mackenzie.  James and Anisha had broken the colony's no-contact law to reach them. It was decided that Nathan would keep the telltale signs of his assimilation— the series of implants running along his right ear to his hand—in order to maintain the illusion that he'd just been recovered from the collective. His younger brother, who had been born the year before their assimilation had no visible signs of his ordeal, the Borg having not yet fitted the child with implants when they became self aware.   Since the day they were smuggled off the Free Borg colony in 2387, Neither Nathan nor Samuel has seen their parents parents. For their own benefit, and to keep the colony hidden, they do not know how to get back. Its location remains a secret, known only to those who reside there and the few adults who decided to leave.

Nathan was nearing his 11th birthday when he arrived on Cestus III. With his mother and father still living among the Free Borg, the only relatives Nathan had left to care of him were their parents' friends, Shane and Elyse Mackenzie. But the boy who stepped off the transport was a far cry from the boy they expected. Life among the Borg, and later the Free Borg, had left Nathan a somber, machine-like boy who's cold grey eyes bore the tale of his ordeal. His hair had all grown back, but as was common among those few Free Borg children, Nathan kept it cut close to the scalp. His body bore scars of the Borg devices that had been grown there by the nanites, which still coursed through his bloodstream. They would remain as much a part of him as any of his natural organs for the rest of his life. In time, most of the signs of his assimilation would disappear, with only a few scars on his chest and arms remaining. In addition to sleep, Nathan would use a portable regeneration device designed by his mother to resupply his energy needs.

The Mackenzies were also were instructed on maintenance of the boy's implants and procedures to follow in the event that he was injured. It was a lot to take in, but Shane and Elyse soldiered through it; when their friends' children arrived, they were ready. On the positive side, the Borg implants corrected Nathan's vision deficiency. Due to a vision impairment, coupled with an allergy to Retnox products, he had previous been forced to wear glasses. The implants had also enhanced his already above-average mental capacity. When tested for classes in the Pike City school system, it was discovered that he was able to process information infinitely faster than any normal child his age. This led to his graduation from high school at the age of 12, and subsequent enrollment in the correspondence program offered by Pike City University on Cestus, as well as an advanced computer studies program offered via subspace correspondence with Bynaurus. By his 14th birthday, he had an advanced degree in computer science and nanotechnology, the equivalent to a Master's Degree. He was then accepted to Starfleet Academy, where he studied Starship Engineering and Operations for three years.

Nathan Benjamin sat at the science console trying to feign work. Truth be told, he was bored out of his mind. His sensor experiment was over a long time ago, and he himself had nothing to do but watch the readouts from the improved sensors. wow. A comet. or an occasional nebula or something. But nothing noteworthy. Nothing to get excited about. As he sat at the station, his mind wandered back to the mission previous to this. the one where he and Dr. Akaari had been thrust back in time to recover a fragment, and had acctually been Civil War soldiers. Now that was exciting. Nathan had recalled that scenario alot over the past few weeks since the mission was concluded. And why not? His time had been spent doing pretty much routine maintainence on the sensors since he had come back to active duty, and since being made the chirf Science officer for the ship, he had rarely had any opportunities to interact with anyone, especially his best friends before the event, Joost and Carl. Carl was now the Chief Engineer of course, and a lieutenant at that, and he had a Girlfriend. But Nathan had made a few friends with some of the crewman down in engineering and science, and they had gotten together a few times for football games on the holodeck. but overall, Nathan was just bored. He needed something to
keep himself occupied, and frankly, watching moniters and babysitting the sensors just wasn't doing it. He got up to stretch his legs a bit, and walk around. There weren't that many people on the bridge because the Captain and XO had gone to 10 forward, and everyone else was either off or tending to other matters before their mission of being Martok's escort to the conference got underway. As Nathan walked around the ship's spacious bridge, he remembered back when he was little, walking on the bridge with his mother, who was at that time a captain of another Galaxy Class Starship, the Trident. As he walked around the bridge, lost in thought, he wandered around to the turbolift doors. They opened, startling him, and a crewman stepped out.

"Oh.. hey Chief, didn't see you there." The crewman said.

"S'allright, Nathan said, dismissing the crewman, but losing his train of thought. He checked his chronometer and saw that his shift was over now, and he walked through the still open turbolift doors.

" Deck 13" Nathan said as the doors whisked closed.

As the lift carried him to his destination, he continued his little trip down memory lane. He remembered what the ship was like when he was younger. It was big, mysterious, and every time he got to go out and explore it was like a huge adventure. Afterall, having your mother as the Ship's captain meant not getting into a whole lot of trouble for getting caught wandering the ship, which happened quite a bit. some days he would spend in engineering, learing how the Warp engines worked and playing tricks on the crewmen by jumping out of a jeffries tube and startling them, or in Sickbay, talking to to his father's friend, who was the CMO on the Trident about his homeworld of Risa. Yes, living on a ship was great when he was young, and there were alot of great memories. But then of course, the worst memories of his young life also happened on the Trident. the battle of Wolf 359. That was the day that he and most of the other children on the ship were assimmilated as the Borg took the shipo, and used it for their colony in the Regula Badlands. The smells, and sounds and the visions still came to him in dreams from time to time. Being a little older helped him deal with it, but like all traumatic events, it never really goes away. The turbolift doors once again roused him from thought, and he stepped out onto the deck. He walked to his quarters and the doors slid open. Nathan took off his jacket and threw it on the couch that he had recently purchased and fell into a beanbag chair.

"Computer" he said, "play some music... 21st century.. American.. uhh... Presidents of the United States of America."

"Specify Album" the computer shot back.

Nathan sighed "Love Everyone" He said.

the computer started playing the music, and Nathan sat back to listen.

Nathan,

That was a long application.

If I read it correctly, you are a liberated Borg with implants.

We have just recently starting allowing characters to play them, so we can approve the application.  But because this is a new species, please run any big ideas to change the character by your CO/XO.

We can put you on the Tempest in their Engineering Department.

Please let me know if that will work for you.

Sincerely,

Kirok
