Kyan Mackenzie

:: Crew Quarters | USS Discovery ::

The dreaded day had thus arrived. Kyan had been thinking of nothing else for several days now. More accurately, he'd been thinking of nothing else... but how to escape. Yes. It was that time of the year.

Annual Physicals.

Kintiss and Cottle and their team of butchers down there in the sickbay would no doubt be expecting him any minute now for his yearly torture session. Poking and prodding and questions and hyposprays and all manner of other barbaric cruelty awaiting the little pilot down there in the lizard doctor's house of hypocrattic horrors.

Not this year. Not this time. Kyan had a plan. If those raggedy grups thought that he would just march down there and subject himself to their vile ministrations, they were sadly mistaken.

"Aren't you being a little.... over dramatic?" Ellsworth asked, watching in some fascination at his room mate packed weapons and other unidentifiable things inside a bag. "It's only a physical after all.'

Kyan stopped packing for a moment and peered over at him. "No." he replied simply, and zipped up his bag.

"Suit yourself mate. But they are going to find you. We're out in space. Where can you go?"

"I'll worry about that won't I? Kyan replied, slinging his bag. "They way I have it figured, I can evade them for a while, and so they'll just get bored of it and stop looking. Or maybe some great alien menace will come and they'll forget me and worry with that. Either way, I'll not be setting foot into that sickbay. See you round.'

"And what'll I tell them when they come calling?"

Kyan shrugged. "What can you tell them? I haven't told you anything."

Ellsworth sighed. "Alright mate. See you when you get back."

Kyan's only response was a nod before he turned on his heel and walked out the door. He'd been scouting the ship for several days. There were several nooks & crannies to hide in. He'd also managed to get hold of several com badges, which Kali had given him because he told her he lost it... over a month or so he'd aquired five com badges. He could plant them in different places to throw off the search. He could evade these grups. Wouldn't be the first time. Wouldn't be the last. Ole Kintiss and Cottle wouldn't be catching him and using their death devices on him. Not today. "Good luck boyos." he murmured as he rounded the corner to his first destination. "You'll need it!"

Klabax Cottle

[Corridors]

Klabax was out and about, tracking down those few who thought they could get out of their physicals. Some had good reasons, such as Reyes, but others had nothing to keep the Medical folks at bay. One poorly-thought-out plan a few hours earlier was to pretend to be sick... to keep out of the medbay. That plan went over just swimmingly, with Klabax hauling the person off to sickbay and subjected them to more tests than a regular physical. They had claimed to be sick, after all!

He was down on his list, and so went to the quarters of a Mr. Kyan Mackenzie. He pressed the door chime, stepped back and waited for a response. "Mr. Mackenzie, it's time for your physical. Please don't make this harder on us and you than it has to be."

"And it begins." Ellsworth sighed as he hauled himself up off the couch and covered the distance to the door. Kyan had been plotting this thing for nearly a month now. And while Ellsworth wasn't involved, nor was he privy to the particulars of his cabinmate's plans, he knew that they were intricate and creative. It would definitely be a while before the good doctors located the Miran and dragged him to sickbay.

The doors opened, revealing Doctor Cottle, Kyan's least preferred physician.

"Good morning Doctor. I'm afraid Ensign Mackenzie isn't here. And he's not told me where it is he's gone, nor when he plans to return." All true. Kyan only told James THAT he would be gone til this whole "physical" thing blew over. He hadn't mentioned how long he was willing to hold out.

"Joy." he said, already annoyed. "He's had this on his schedule for four months... he couldn't say he didn't know it was coming."

He pressed his commbadge. "Klabax to Mackenzie" he said, and then asked the computer. "Computer, locate Ensign Mackenzie."

He stood by and waited for a response. He'd now have to find and drag the child to sickbay- it wasn't like there was unlimited places to hide.

"Ensign Mackenzie is in Sickbay" the computer informed Cottle.

~ Meanwhile, NOT in Sickbay.....

His padd beeped almost a full second after his combadge bleeped.

Kyan grinned. "Already at it." he whispered to himself. "So we begin."

The little Miran dutifully tapped the delta affixed to his chest. "Mackenzie here."

=/\= Ensign, it's time for your physical. Let's just make this as painless as possible for the both of us, and not have to spend all afternoon finding each other.=/\= he said, as the turbolift slowed and he stepped out, beginning to walk toward the sickbay.

He would in fact, not be there waiting for Cottle. He would instead, be  enacting phase II of his plan... but the curmudgeony ole grup didn't need to know that bit.

Klabax acknowledged his message, and went the rest of the way to the Sickbay. He entered and looked around.

And so he looked around for Kyan.

And didn't see him.

=/\= Sickbay to Ensign Mackenzie=/\= he said, pulling formal ranks now. =/\= Report to sickbay, now. This isn't funny, Ensign.=/\= he said, already obviously peeved on top of his usual grumpy mood.

And so he sat down in a chair and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

~ An Hour Later ~

Dr. Cottle was no doubt by now aware that Kyan was not, nor had any intention of being in Sickbay. So he would be looking for him. And the goon squad would be as well. The com badge trick was played out too. He'd set the badges to inform him when they gave his "location". All five had pinged. They would be looking for his bio-signature now. And unfortunately for him, there really wasn't a way around that. He was the only Miran on the ship. And while his bio-signature was nearly identical to a Human, there were slight variances. Specifically, there was the LPV virus that gave him away. But of course he had a plan for that. The plan made himvulnerable, but it also made him undetectable.

"Computer" Kyan asked in almost a whisper, "Has this transporter been used or had routine maintenance since being brought aboard the Discovery?"

The computer didn't take long. "No. Last maintenance check was at Starbase 125 on stardate....."

"Fine. Good." Kyan interupted. "Computer, bring this unit online."

The transporter whirred to life, illuminating the small vessel's cockpit. "Ok. Now to program the thing..."

Kyan had read about this being done before by some engineer... the Scottish grup on Kirk's ship... to save him from being killed off. In his case, he was hoping that the same trick might save him from being used as a pincushion. He keyed in the commands and hopped onto the pad.

"Ok computer. After this thing energizes, set it for a diagnostic cycle. Run it in power saving mode for ten hours, and then complete the transport sequence."

"Acknowledged. Prepared for transport." the computer replied in it's robot lady voice.

Kyan sighed and offered up a short prayer to Lugh that he had programmed it right. Otherwise his atoms might be scattered all over the area... or worse, he'd be caught. "Ok. Energize."

The cabin illuminated briefly as the little Miran was disassembled and stored in the patter buffer, and then returned to darkness.

After Fifteen minutes the doctor had called him again. After thirty, he'd sent out security to scour the ship.

After forty five minutes, he'd gone himself to the Miran's next duty station, in case he'd shown.

An hour later, there was still no sign of the ensign. He sighed and tapped the wall console near him. "Computer, access internal sensor array, medical override."

The computer's voice whirred to life. Access Granted it said.

"Begin bio-scan for Ensign Kyan Mackenzie, using template from last physical. Inform if a 75% match or better is located."

He hoped the Ensign hadn't changed that much, but just in case he saw this coming he added a final command. "Lock access to this scan to my voiceprint and authorization code only. Begin." He said, as the computer console went dark and the program began running.

He began going on a search of everywhere the ensign would likely be, being unsuccessful for several hours. He didn't need to sleep, so he didn't. Being a Denobulan was amazing. Sleep was truly for the weak here.

~10 hours after transport~

Kyan's eyes opened as his body re-materialized in the cockpit of another shuttle. As the process finished, he checked himself to make sure the transporter had put everything back where it belonged. When he was confident that it had, he checked peered out the window. The bay was dark and deserted. As he had hoped it would be. He had to work fast to ensure that he wouldn't be detected whilst he was rigging this transporter.

"I should have pre-programmed them beforehand." he said aloud. "Oh well, no time to dwell on it."

The boy set about his business and a minute later he was prepared again. "Ok computer, same as the last time if you please. Set time for 8 hours from now."

"Parameters set. Transporter ready." the computer replied.

Kyan hopped up onto the pad. "Energize" he whispered in the darkness, and closed his eyes."

A radiant blue light filled the cockpit for a moment, and the shuttlebay. And then it went dark again.

After ten hours, Klabax was getting more than impatient. He'd searched every inch of the search... and then the Computer alerted him to the location of Mr. Mackenzie. He armed himself with his hyposprays and marched to the transporter room, not finding the man. Upon consulting the computer, he learned that he was now in a shuttle.

He marched down to the shuttlebay, and looked at the panel. He pressed a few buttons, trying to find out where the person would be beamed to provided the cycle completed correctly. "Clever, Mr. Mackenzie." he admitted to himself, tapping away at the panel.

As the Denobulan doctor mucked about with the transporter, another darkened room on the Discovery was illuminated with vivid blue shimmering light.

When Kyan opened his eyes, he saw nothing. "Computer, turn the lights on." he whispered.

The computer dutifully replied, bathing the entire room in light. Looking around, Kyan noticed that he was in the EVA storage area, which meant that someone had boarded the shuttle and probably located him.

"Cottle." he whispered, shaking his head. "Persistent grup that one."

So now that his transporter scheme was found out, it was time for him to move to the next phase. The ancient youth padded over to the storage locker where his suit was stored and began donning it. "And let's just see him catch me outside. How bout that!"

It appeared that he was, again, one step behind the little man. As he tried to access the coordinates, they were morphed and he was locked out. He fetched the console a backhanded slap with his palm before finding Mackenzie's biosigns at an airlock. He frowned and tried to get a lock, but someone's meddling had kept him from energizing the transporters.

He pressed his commbadge, triggering the computer. =/\= Computer, Ensign Kyan Mackenzie has been relieved of duty due to an outdated physical. Security is to detain upon sight.=/\= he said, and erected a force field at the door of the airlock that connected to the hallway. There was no way out of that room into the ship now.

He gathered his tools and stormed up to the room, and banged one fist on the door. People recognized he was in a worse mood than usual and got out of his way, generally. He called in. "Mister Mackenzie, one way or another you will be coming to sickbay." he said, a dry tone to his voice.

"I'd prefer not to have to drag your stunned body down to the bay."

Kyan pulled his boot on as the forcefield blinked into existence, preventing him from re-entering the ship. "Well thank the powers that I don't intend to go back in there eh?" he chuckled to himself, standing up and grabbing his helmet. He tapped the wall panel's communication button.

"One step too slow ole Grup. I'm taking a walk. Catch me if you can." he chirped into the panel.

Kyan hadn't wanted to communicate, but couldn't help himself this time. He felt quite pleased with how the plan had gone thus far, and now came the last bit. Kyan took a padd from his backpack and flicked it on. "And let's just see if those transporter codes were fairly purchased." he whispered, offering up a quick prayer to the mother for luck. He tapped a few commands, which were thankfully accepted. The transporters and external sensors would now be in a level one diagnostic cycle for a few hours. Luckily they were docked, so this wouldn't put the ship into any danger.

"Adios Doctor." Kyan offered happily as he clamped his helmet into place. When it was secure and he was on his suit's oxygen, he depressurized the adjoining airlock and opened the hatch. Passing through the shimmering blue forcefield, he stopped for a moment to appreciate the view before walking out onto the Discovery's hull.
