Sickbay-Sectioned of Biohazard Area

Suddenly the lights flickered from clear to a dreaded red as the Klaxons began to sound.  Instinct and constant emergency drills caused Jamie and her team to take action.  She reached out for the controls and automatically sealed them in there own little section.  It was a small lab area where she would be able to monitor the Vaults and the Hazmat team.  Her wide eyes then moved up to where Dr. Dano and his team was; only to the Betazoid man without his helmet grinning wickedly at her.

She turned on the speaker that put her in touch with the protected Vault room where Dr. Dano was.  "What is going on, doctor, why is your helmet off?"  Jamie wanted to cry, this was the worst possible scenario.  "Where are your other team members?  Where's the team, Dr. Dano?!  What's happening??"

Stafford looked up from his report as the red alert grated into his ear and made him jump. The sound and light was designed to startle people into acting, no matter how many times they had experienced it.

He stood and nearly cried out at the pain in doing so after sitting for so long. His hip was on fire. He groped for his cane, found it, and steadied himself and his breathing before walking out to Ops.

"Report!" Stafford ordered, an edge to his voice. A quick glance at the nearest monitor told him that Sickbay's biological containment had failed, but he needed more details.

As Dr. Dano - Head of the Federation Contagious Virus Section
The Biohazard Containment shields were powerful things, so powerful they blocked the very air that Dano and his team needed to live, but they did not shield him from the thousands of minds that lived on the behemoth station.  He shook his head slightly as he blocked them out but it was difficult.  There were minds that were so loud and obnoxious that Dano just wanted to scream at them to shut up.  He knew he couldn't and as a trained Betazoid he should be able to block them out.
But he couldn't.
"Are you alright, doctor?"  One of his technicians asked causing Dano to stop momentarily and stare into the face shield of the speaker.  For a moment he had no idea who this person was or why he was wearing that ridiculous outfit.
It all came back to him.
Dano smiled and nodded as his own large hazmat helmet wobbled slightly over his head at the motion.  "I'm alright, my boy, just a bit overwhelmed with the size of the station.  Carry on, carry on."  The other man gave him an affirmation and went back to work.  Dano sighed and placed a hand on the vault to steady a sudden case of dizziness.  There was something strange.  He felt strange and very dizzy.
His eyes lifted and he looked out of the safe room and towards Dr. McConnell who was surrounded with Columbus personnel.  He was glad she was with them and trusted her to take over for him should something happen to him.
Was something happening to him?

Jamie nodded her thanks to the Security Chief and watched the tall man leave the medical bay.  She knew security on a starship was intense and can only imagine the rigors of a base would be much higher.  For one thing the station chief had to deal with civilians and not just Starfleet personnel.   Her attention was immediately grabbed, however, by a Deltan female.

"You must be Dr. Zex."  Jamie nodded at the other woman and smiled.  "At ease, doctor."  Her voice cracked a bit with a chuckle.  Dr. Zex's enthusiasm was charming as was the Deltan herself but that wasn't unusual when it came to their race.  "At the moment we're waiting for a science officer then I can let you guys know what I need help with..."  She noted the approach of an Andorian wearing the telltale signature blue of medical or science as he approached her.

Jamie again nodded and her smile got wider.  "Well, it seems we're complete now.  Thank you for your help.  I'm Dr. McConnell but you can call me Jamie if you'd like."  She waved at the containment room where Dano and his team were at work reviewing all the viruses to see if they were stable.

"As you can see, the first transfer of viruses has been transported successfully.  This vault is coming from the USS Curie, but we have deliveries from the LeBlanc and the Eisenhower but their vaults will not be as big as this one....."

Hust was merely walking around when he felt- or more rather sensed- a strange sensation, a huge swath of emotion, or at least how it seemed to him. He struggled to make sense of it for a moment, before realizing what it was. It was another Betazoid. There was another on the station! That was odd enough, but the being seemed not to be trained to control it. It was low level, yes, but it was well out of the ordinary. If it wasn't for the defensive mental posture he'd upheld, he wouldn't have noticed it. He looked around, not finding the being. He made a note to find them later.

He continued walking around, a rather placid and blank look on his face. That is, until the station ventilation shut down and the red alerts started blaring. But these weren't the regular red alerts.... something was.. wrong. Aside from the lack of any other signs of trouble, vents usually never shut down. He ran to a turbolift, civilians parting like the sea for the man as the starfleet uniformed Ensign rushed to a turbolift.

[Ops]

Hust emerged out of the turbolift seconds later, looking around. "What's going on?" He asked, not knowing anything at the moment. "Mechanical failure?"

Sevoc turned to Zex.

"It is agreeable to see you again as well," he replied before turning to Dr. McConnell. "When the time is right, doctor, then I shall lower the formalities."

Sevoc turned to the observation window and looked out to see what was happening. He began to feel something creep into his mind. It was not unlike that of extreme fear mixed with total dread. He began to, uncharacteristically, frantically search for the exit. When he reached the door, he found it was locked.

"What is going on?" he cried out. "I have got to get out of here. They're coming to kill us all!"

His Vulcan side was completely gone. The Andorian half did not know how to cope with any of this.

Then, without warning, he started to see a Le-matya. It was quite implausible given his location. Then he saw a horde of stinging centipedes, which was nearly as implausible. At the sight of these creatures, he ran toward the corner of the room and balled up, unsure of what was going to happen next.

Tritter was in the middle of something once the lights went out and the klaxons sounded. His spidey senses immediately went into over drive. His immediate focus hopped to the Pathogens that were onboard, something must have been happened. He than tapped his comm badge and said "Engineering, has anything happened?" The man on the other end replied with "Sir, nothing has happened on our end, but we are investigating" The Large man rose to his feet, grabbed a nearby phaser rifle, in addition to the hand phaser strapped to his right leg. He slung the rifle over his back, he stepped out and his contigent was already near the doorway. He said "Leave five here to guard the Brig, you three come with me" Each man already had a rifle and was ready to go. If there was one thing he would rather be, it is over prepared than under prepared.

He exited the area and led them up to the location where the Pathogens were stored, he was ready for the worst and saw the worst. There was an airlock between them and he saw that there was two people, Sevoc and Dr. Dano in the containment area with no protection on and Pathogens having gotten loose in the area. Tritter that called for a complete lock down of the Medical bay, as well for Engineering to only circulate the air in the medical bay and filter it, not to send it to other places in the Base, as the Pathogens may be airborne. He than directed his men to post guard at each of the entrances/exits to make sure no one goes in or out. All he can do at this time is keep the area secure and make sure no one else gets sick.

Promenade
Howell was on the promenade. So far everything had been going to normal. He was only by-passing this particular part whilst conducting a routine walk around. In light of the current situation of all the pathogens on board, he needed to make sure that everything was ok, especially with civilians on board.

Just then, the red alert siren went off. Dan froze for a second. He had a feeling that it could only be to do with the pathogens and so instead of heading to ops or engineering, decided to head to Medical and see what was going on.

Running in to sickbay, he saw Zex and who he assumed was Doctor McConnell. He saw they had sealed themselves in and so said "Computer site to site transport to Doctor Zex's comm signal." A few seconds later he materialised next to Zex and in a general direction to anyone said "What is going on?"

"Ensign Harmon, you're on the horn already. Divert all incoming traffic and let Starfleet Command know we've got a possible outbreak. "And Ensign D'Angelo, go back up the Chief with whatever he needs. Harmon can handle the comms and the lockdown, but your department will be needed elsewhere." The commander said.

We will have quite the mess on our hands if that happens." He knew their services were going to be in high demand very shortly and he was prepared to ensure a smooth lockdown of the ship, even if that meant an overwhelming show of force was necessary to achieve such a thing.

All major parts of the station have been sealed off, all departures have been delayed and all incoming starships have been diverted. What do we know about these pathogens? I doubt that phasers will be of much use." She replied, wondering what they were supposed to be doing as unless they were able to destroy the pathogen, they would be of little use.

Containment is key with something like this." He than noticed a few more of the Security Team arrive, the man would direct them where to go and what the objective would be. He would than look back towards D'Angelo and state "I wager we should make sure the lock down is proceeding smoothly, hopefully better than last time" He knew last time, it nearly resulted in riots and he wanted to make sure that such would not happen again.

Medical Bay - BioHazard cleared lab room
Jamie stared at her boss across the space of glass and force fields and could see that he was not himself.  According to the vault all the pathogens were still secured in their viles so why the Betazoid man was acting this way would need further investigation.  She would need to give him an exam, but at the moment he was in a place where that was not about to happen and until she realized what was going on, there was no way she was getting anywhere near him.
"They're gone, my dear."  Dr. Dano responded and waved at her with his fingers, tapping them one at a time against the glass.  "I killed them, Jamie...but I don't know why."  He shrugged then smiled, "Now, if you'd be a good girl and give me full control of the vault.  Go on then, I'm giving you an order, child."  His face began to turn red in anger, "I'm ordering you, McConnell!! Give me full control of the damn vault or this will go on your record!  What will they say....what would you family say....what would you hu..."
Jamie cut him off as the man began stomping and banging against the glass.  Suddenly, the Andorian began to act paranoid and what she could guess was not his normal self.

She frowned and bent down close to him.  Her eyes quickly surmised that, like her, he wasn't completely Andorian and the shape of the ears made him perhaps half Vulcan?  Jamie didn't really have time to guess what was going on.  Before she could do anything about the science officer's symptoms the sound of a  transporter filled the room and a human man appeared.  This was insane and Jamie did not know how he overid the containment quarantines that would usually prevent transportation in or out of the contaminated areas.

"Quarantine protocols have been engaged.   I think you just entered a contaminated zone.  We're not going to be able to leave until the threat has been cleared" Zex said to Howell.
Then the Deltan looked from Howell to Dr. McConnell.  "Should we sedate Sevoc?  What's the standard Dr. McConnell?" she asked.

A bead of sweat trickled down Jamie's forehead, down her cheek where she wiped it off with her shoulder.  A fury swept over her as she glared at the man, then held back the urge to scream as she responded to Dr. Zex.  "Sedate him and run an analysis on his brain function.  I'm sure you have scans of him, use those to compare to his current state so we can see what we're dealing here.  Right now he's our only subject because we can't get Dr. Dano out of there.

"Well as long as Quarantine protocol has been engaged, at least the base might be safe for the time being. Right, you're going to need an engineer down here, and apart from being an XO, it's still my job!" Dan replied, he said his sentence the way he did in an attempt to lighten the mood. to lighten the mood. Tapping his combadge he then said =/\= Howell to Commander Stafford, we have a situation in the Medical Bay, containment breach. I am currently stuck with Dr. Zex and Dr. McConnell. I'm trying to think of a fix!. Howell out =/\=

Then turning his attention back to the 2 doctors, he said "Right, we need to work out exactly what we are going to do and how the hell we are going to fix this. You may be doctors, but, suggestions?"

"As for you."  Jamie stood to her full height and pointed a finger at the so called XO.  "I don't care if you are the president of the Federation, for you to just transport yourself in a contained area without regards to your life is completely.....idiotic!"  Her Vulcan side kept her from trembling with anger at this obvious breach of containment.  "As Dr. Zex said, you cannot leave here, and you would have been more help on the outside than stuck here with us!  There is nothing wrong with the containment Vault or the force fields!  We do not need an engineer at the moment so until we do, stay out of our way......sir."  The last part came out almost as a growl as she turned to her two technicians.

The two men were going over the vials and confirmed that there was no breach.  In fact all of the viruses seemed to be dormant and in stasis.

The scathing malediction that leaped into his mind would not have been proper for even the meanest dive bar on the Columbus. Stafford breathed slowly and focused. One of his gifts was to remain calm in any situation, no matter how major or minor. He reached for his calm then and found it.
"=/\=Acknowledged, Dan. I can't say I am happy that the three of you are in danger, but while you're there you might as well try to help. Dr. McConnell, Dr. Zex. Have both of your staffs set up two separate quarantine zones in the infirmary. We might be able to beam you away from ground zero and to relative safety. Keep me appraised. Stafford out.=/\="

=^= There will be no beaming of any individual in the containment zones, Commander! =^=

Jamie responded quickly before anyone else was beamed in or out.
=^= Sir, there is no containment breach and we're still investigating what has happened to Dr. Dano but he's not the only one that has been affected.  Science officer Sevoc seems to be showing some symptoms.  In the meantime, please take away any of Dr. Dano's access...I don't have authority to do so, all I can do is hold him off for now.  His access is higher than mine....if he puts in any of his codes he can release all the viruses in the vault.  Do you understand, sir?  Please take away all of Dr. Dano's access codes. =^=
Before she could stop speaking there was a familiar sounding klaxon, a smaller one that came directly from the Vault.  "Dr. McConnell!"  One of her technicians cried out, "It's Dr. Dano, he's managed to release several viruses."
Jamie sucked in some breath as she began to tremble slightly, she wasn't feeling very well either but wasn't about to say anything.  "Which ones?  Quickly!"
The Technician swallowed hard as his eyes read the scrolled information.  Jamie quickly joined him and read for herself.  She swallowed hard and tapped her intercom.
=^= Commander, I hope you've stopped Dr. Dano's from further access but I have bad news.   He's managed to release a few viruses.  I'm sending them to you, with your medical background you know what they are.  These are mutated strains and we're already working on the cures, but there are some that may not get them on time.  In the meantime, sir, this whole station is now quarantine.  They may or may not have spread but we can't take chances =^=
With that Jamie nodded at the technicians who quickly began to formulate the vaccines using the Columbus' own stores.  "Dr. Zex, I'll need you to coordinate with the Columbus medical staff to start working on these.  The faster the better and we need to figure out a way to spread this out...I have a feeling we won't be able to inject everyone individually."
She then turned to the engineer, the XO she had just yelled at, "Mr. Howell, you will be needed now....we will need to get that vault out of there and into the incinerator without releasing any more pathogens and we will need to figure out how to inoculate the entire population of the Columbus, the faster the better...."  Her green eyes flickered with a light of madness or perhaps a little terror, "....any questions?"

Hust Kinun

"Mr. Hust." Stafford's grip on his cane was turning his knuckles white. "Dr. Dano appears to have broken containment on these pathogens. 'Mechanical failure' is something I would truly like to avoid right now."

[Ops]

"Aye sir." he said, taking over one of the secondary consoles before a new batch of alarms sounded- full base quarantine. The pulsing red lights were now met with a piercing medical blue, with an automated voice informing them a full base quarantine and lockdown was now in place. As such, the transporter, ventilation, and airlocks shut off, cutting off the station from the outside world, and automated "stay away" beacons came online.

Other than that, Hust was trying to focus. He was unable to figure out what went wrong- at the first sign of trouble on his console, when the XO ordered a site to site and the force fields raised, everything should have locked down, but instead they had had a quarantine incident. And by incident, it was more like a containment breach. The federation used a 7-point scale, analogous to the International Nuclear Event Scale of old Earth.

"Sir..." he said, looking around. "We're facing a possible INES-7 disaster here... we need orders." he said, trying to keep himself focused.

He looked over the transporter logs and frowned. For some reason, the transporter systems had stayed online after the state of emergency in the quarantine chamber had remained online. His temper flared. Engineering obviously hadn't been doing their jobs. He slammed his fist into the control panel beneath him, almost shattering it as a spiderweb lattice of cracks formed, spreading out and causing the display beneath him to buzz and almost fade out. "Engineering needs to get their ACT TOGETHER" He exclaimed, obviously agitated and flustered, manually disabling the transporters- just in case anything else wasn't working right with the shutdown.

After this outburst, something in the back of his mind... clicked. A little tiny voice telling him something was wrong... but then a louder voice screamed it out. This pattern continued, each time everything getting louder and louder. Unbeknownst to anyone, a pathogen of some kind had escaped and already propagated around the station- and Hust had fallen prey to it. He started shaking, as if in anger, and he looked up around, bloodlust in his eyes. His anger was enough to rival that of a Klingon warrior. The reasonable part of him looked up and he tried to lock eyes with the Commander. He spoke, his voice vulnerable like a small child, weak and fearful. "Sir... I am afraid I must be relieved of duty..." he said, before the redness in his eyes returned and he smashed the console again, it fully shattering the console as he went into a bezerk rage throwing anything in sight and then storming off the ops deck and quickly getting lost in the midst of the station's civilian populous, ditching his commbadge. He was almost impossible to track now.
