"Hey, Dan," Stafford said, still catching his breath. He coughed and cleared his throat. "Commander. I could ask you the very same thing. Did you get to environmental control?"

"Take a deep breath, son," Stafford said in a firm tone. "We're going to be alright."

He needed to say that for them as much as himself. There was fear in everyone's eyes. Stafford reached deep down for his resolve and found it.

"Dan, Harmon, and I are going to the environmental controls to distribute the antidote. The rest of the Ops crew is to go to the Medical Bay and start setting up a command post. Everyone got their phasers? Splendid. Let's move out."

Howell was catching his breath whilst the Commander spoke to him. His point was more than valid and so Dan replied "It's crawling with... Zombies out there. It's going to take all 3 of us to be on point to get to Environmental controls. The quickest way is completely blocked, there is no chance." Howell replied. He knew the Jefferies tubes quite well, especially this section and so pointed in front of him continued "However in theory if we head straight down, go right and then up 3 levels at the next junction, we should be able to go through the floor, but we don't know how many zombies have infiltrated the main controls."

He grabbed his phaser, setting it to the max stun setting finishing "Phasers will need to be on max stun setting and you need to aim for the upper part of the body, preferably the heart or higher, seems to bring them down the quickest." He awaited the others response before moving off.

Hust Kinun

Quote from: Jamie McConnell on November 29, 2016, 01:45:18 AM

Medical Bay - Deep Inside Hust's Mind

Jamie grabbed hold at the part of the man that was crying out in fear and held him close, like a mother would her child.  She shushed him, which was not a very Vulcan thing to do, but Jamie was not an ordinary Vulcan, even for a half Vulcan she was not ordinary.  Her human side seemed to be more dominant and she loved diving into her human side's emotions.  "It's okay...it's alright, this is the way it goes, just let it do its job.  You'll feel better soon...."  Her energy seemed to smile and warm up as she continued to sooth her patient's fears, "...trust me..I'm a doctor."  It was added humorously, after all her mother always said laughter was the best medicine.    She decided to stay with him a while longer, just to make sure he would heal....
[Sickbay]

Hust eventually, with much help from the Doctor, calmed down enough to stop further damage to himself. Instead, his body turned what energy it had left into healing him. His DNA began to rewrite itself, reverting back to his uninfected form. It started with his critical organs, the brain and heart and nervous system, the black-tinged blood slowly turning red again as the infection was purged. His immune system was not healed yet, as it would have attacked Hust himself as an 'infection'. His physical figure remained unchanged, but his biosigns fluctuated wildly, from the barely intelligible mass back to it's normal betazoid-ish signs. After his body was healed, it would be time for what was left of his consciousness to piece itself together. He had a huge way to go in his recovery, but he would be ok, in time. He heard the doctor but didn't respond, either unable or unwilling to communicate through the meld.

LK Reede

[medical bay]

The doors slid open at LK's approach. She'd been stuck on a lower level for what seemed like forever. But, using her innate sense of survival, she'd fought hard to do away with as many of the zombies as she could. Only slightly bruised and battered, she ran her fingers through her short blondish hair before realizing that Lt. Tritter was standing by a biobed watching the doctor perform some kind of therapy.

Walking over to stand beside him, her attention was grabbed by the doctor's methods. She'd never actually seen a mind-meld before.

Talking a deep breath, LK said softly, "Sir? Lt. Tritter? I'm LK Reede. Don't know if you remember me. I've only been on the base a short time."

Tritter had been watching the Doctor and Kinun closely, it seemed interesting to him, for a moment, he would have silence, until he heard someone walking over to him. He would turn to face the female who walked up to him. Tritter would be quite the sight, he had a good bit of blood and bone matter on his uniform. It was obvious that he had been through the ringer and back again, due to the zombies. The Lieutenant's gaze focused on the female, he looked her over from head to toe, he than said "Hello Cadet. I have reviewed your record. Welcome to the Columbus, as you can see, this is a very active Starbase. Have you gotten your bearings yet?" The Man's heavy German accented voice was confident, calm and assertive as he spoke to her.

"Aye, sir," Alex said checking that his rifle was still working and making sure it was still on a high stun setting, knowing that maximum stun on the phaser rifle was more powerful and dangerous than that on the pistols. It was battered and scratched a bit from him dragging it through the Jeffries Tubes but it still worked even though he was now regretting using the pistol as a breaching charge. He followed the two Commanders towards the Environmental Controls, hoping that their plan would work.

With the three men left alone, Stafford began to lead the way to environmental controls. Even in the secluded confines of the small maintenance tubes, screams could be heard from outside. Once the bulkhead next to the tube was rocked by a vicious impact and a voice shrieked out, "No! NO! NONONONONO!"

The only answer was the bestial cry of the zombies and the terrible sounds of someone being torn limb from limb.

Steady. Stafford recalled the punishing physical exercise and the long grueling hours of study at the Academy. The memory of his hard work so long ago comforted him. As he crawled, he tried to distract his mind from the pain in his hip, hands, and knees and the awful cacophony of noise and smells.

"We're right there," The commander said breathlessly. He indicated the portal up ahead. "Dan, Harmon, there's a ton of them out there. I'll--"

He curled up and groaned, hand flying to the flare of pain in his hip. Working the tender joint for so long without any support or break had wracked his body with spasms.

Stafford attempted to straighten his leg and found that he couldn't. He was effectively frozen.

"It seems I cannot walk. Commander Howell, take over. I'll back you both up from the lip of the tube."

When they were done putting on the Haz Mat suits, Zex walked back out onto he floor with the vaccine in aerosol form.  "Are you escorting me to environmental controls?" she asked curious.  Actually hoping for a yes from Tritter and the new person.

LK moved her attention to the large German... a man covered in blood and guts. He should go take a shower with his clothes on, she thought.

What she said out loud was, "Doing okay, sir. It's a big base and it'll take me some time to get really acclimated."

Reede nodded her agreement to the request, looking at the lieutenant questioning his response.

In the few seconds she waited, LK glanced around the medical bay for the first time. Lots of near-zombies otherwise known as crew were in various stages of healing. A sound of distress came from one of the patients - engineering judging by his uniform. Suddenly, he spasmed then lay still. A nurse was already working on him. LK didn't need to see more. She turned to the Deltan in a haz mat suit.

"Yea. Just get me out of here."

Tritter pondered the female's reply, he would than reply with "The best way to learn is to be thrown into the mix" The large man than noticed the medical officer making her way towards them, he shifted slightly to face her. He than shifted the phaser rifle into a low ready position. He replied with, "Yes, we will. Let us know when you are ready to move", his heavily accented voice was confident and relaxed, he preferred to have a task to do, instead of standing around watching others do things, that is not his thing.

"You should put on Haz Mat suits" the Deltan added.  "At a minimum they will add an extra layer of protection between you and the zombies" she added.  Then she turned to lead the couple to the locker area.

Hust Kinun

[Sickbay]

Thanks to the help of the Doctor and modern medicine, Hust's DNA had been overwritten again. This time, however, it was for a good purpose. His body had begun to recover, with the major organs back to their correct structure, albeit not in the best shape. His bones had been set and mended too. Thankfully they no longer lived in an era of casts and splints. His consciousness was another issue. It had started to heal, but there would undoubtedly be damage.

It had started to rebuild, but it would never be the same. The damage was too severe. It was very likely that he would be a different person, or at least have some attributes of his nature changed. How deep the damage struck was a matter for others to determine. He began to regain conscious thought, groaning first but his eyes fluttering open slightly. He looked around, a confused look on his face as he tried to see what was going on... and then he tasted it.

Blood. Brains. biological matter. It ran down his throat as he swallowed, and immediately tried, and failed, to spit back up. The taste was burnt into his tounge, not going away. All of a sudden the memories crashed back into him, but he managed to suppress them for the time being. He moved his head, not sitting up, trying to find anyone he recognized.

Howell nodded as Commander Stafford ordered to start moving. He allowed Stafford to take the lead, with Dan moving closely behind, followed finally by Harmon. He heard the screams of yet another person being torn limb by limb, he could only imagine the pain that person was in. The situation did scare Dan a little and considering usually nothing really did scare him, it was cause for concern. His breathing had increased slightly from the constant crawling, and partly from the fear that surrounded him.

It was hard work as he continued down the tube, soon realising they were almost there. The zombies were swarming out there, it would be a hell of a fight, potentially to the death, which didn't bother Dan, though he hoped it wouldn't come to that. Howell froze when he saw the Commander virtually collapse, it was something to do with his leg, but Howell didn't know what. Dan was confused at the order to continue, but this was not the time to argue. "Aye Commander, were about a junction away from the controls, we should still be able to hear each other." he replied before turning to Harmon saying "Lets go."

Cadet Reede thought she heard a slight quiver in the medical officer's voice. But, muffled as it was by the helmet, she shook the thought away, not sure she even heard it. Scared is better than over-confident, she thought.

Stopping at the doors to the medical bay, a line of lockers carried everything from oxygen masks to bio hazard suits. Grabbing one, LK pulled it on. These fit snuggly except, of course, for the helmet which only gave a 90 degree range of vision. They'd all have to watch around each other for any threats. Having gotten Tritter zipped and checked for errors, Zex doing the same for LK, the three of them made their way into the corridor.

Following Lt. Tritter and Zex, LK pulled her phaser, checked the settings then turned it up to 'heavy stun'. There were sure to be a few of the predators between them and the environmental control room. Cadet Reede was ready for them.

Swinging her phaser rifle around to cradle it in her arms, holding the phaser in her hand, she slipped back to bring up the rear.

Under different circumstances, Zex would have chatted up the new girl and would have invited her to lunch.  But these were not normal times.  So, the Deltan simply offered the woman a nervous smile.
