History
In 2368, Derrick Langley, a human contractor from Earth, volunteered to go to Bajor to assist in the rebuilding of some towns and refineries that were damaged there during the Federation Cardassian war. He worked very closely with the Bajoran Liaison, Galen Tara. The two eventually became romantically involved and by the end of 2369, they married. Tara did not want to abandon her people, so they agreed to remain on Bajor. Derrick stayed with the Bajoran traditions and took his wife's surname as his own, thus making him Galen Derrick Langley. Taryn was born in July of 2373.

In 2377, Taryn's mother was with a group of inspectors that were visiting a refinery that had been scheduled for demolition instead of being rebuilt. No one knew exactly how unstable the structure was so during the visit, it collapsed and killed everyone inside. Derrick tried to remain on Bajor but it continuously reminding him of his deceased wife, so in 2379, he and Taryn moved to Earth and lived with Derricks parents. Taryn had visited them many times before and loved them very much. Her favorite past times with them were listen to her Opa tales of his Starfleet days and her Oma teaching her German.

She grew up very happy and very loved by her father and grandparents but she always wished her mother had still been around. When she was 16 years old, she spoke to her Papa about joining Starfleet. She wanted to go into the Operations division like he had and help others who might lose loved ones due to violence and unneeded wars like she had. They spoke to her father together and with everyone's support, she took the entrance exam when she turned 17. She was lucky enough to pass on her first attempt and left six weeks later.
